Shoes rubbed heels raw - help!

Wore some new shoes today. Sensible but nice looking. Actually EVIL!!!! Rubbed my heels to shit before I could even get some plasters or compeed patches on them. They're now raw with the skin ripped off and so painful.

I've got some compeed patches to wear tomorrow but need a quick fix to get them to heal fast - AIBU to ask for your tips to fix horrendously damaged heels??? Should I soak them? Smother them in something? Leave them to air out?? Help!

I might be completely wrong but I think airing will make them heal fastest, but they will be more likely to scar. I suspect they won't heal overnight though.

redchocolatebutton · 24/09/2019 14:25

blister plaster. and leave them on until they fall off themselves.

are the shoes the right size? did you wear socks?

inwood · 24/09/2019 14:27

Competed and keep wearing the shoes assuming they're leather, they will mould to you feet.

endofthelinefinally · 24/09/2019 14:27

Clean with antseptic, leave uncovered overnight but put a large fabric plaster on to protect and cushion during the day.

hardheadedwoman · 24/09/2019 14:29

It sounds odd but if you have any eggs in, break one and carefully peel off the inner membrane and put it on - if you can get a big enough strip to cover the area leave it on overnight. Works I promise!

demelza82 · 24/09/2019 14:29

The antiseptic liquid plaster stuff that germolene make - that's what I use when this happens. Stings like a bitch to start with but works

Idontwanttotalk · 24/09/2019 14:30

They won't scar - believe me, I have had hundreds of blisters on my heels and no scars. I get them from new shoes, shoes I've had for 5 years, everything.

Letting the air get to them is the quickest way to heal but not always possible if you have to wear formal shoes to work.

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 24/09/2019 14:30

@redchocolatebutton - They're a bit on the small side actually - they're leather and the size up was a bit roomy - I assumed since they'd soften and stretch smaller was sensible. I wore pop socks - silly in hindsight - should have worn thicker ones/tights first.

@endofthelinefinally - ooh, antiseptic is a good shout. Will this help the healing or is it just sensible?

I always buy suede things that stick on the inside of all my shoes unless they are trainers and they have a squishy back bit .

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 24/09/2019 14:32

@inwood - I have to keep wearing them because they weren't cheap and I justified it with a cost per wear calculation!

thenightsky · 24/09/2019 14:32

Take them and get them professionally stretched.

gubbsywubbsy · 24/09/2019 14:32

Think they are called heel something .. will try and find the link .

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 24/09/2019 14:33

@hardheadedwoman - this is so crazy I'm tempted to try it. We have no eggs though - I'll have to walk to the shop in flip flops to buy some

endofthelinefinally · 24/09/2019 14:34

I think feet can get dirty easily so a little dab of tcp is helpful.

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 24/09/2019 14:35

@thenightsky - professional shoe stretcher? What a job! Where would I find one?

I used boots faster healing plasters for a similar wrong shoe move Grin they really helped heal fast

NannyR · 24/09/2019 14:38

Clean the area well then put on the compeed plasters, they will heal better in a moist environment.

MissCharleyP · 24/09/2019 14:39

A tip I was given to make new shoes not rub is to smother your feet and the inside of the shoes in Vaseline. I’ve tried it and it works, as did stretching them with wet newspapers - but you will end up with dirty feet/shoe inners.

TheQueef · 24/09/2019 14:42

I buy the suede things from Amazon.
The adhesive is good but I gorilla glue them in.
One foot is bigger so I pad the toe with them too.

Nameusernameuser · 24/09/2019 14:46

Put them on your feet and blow dry them for 10 minutes (honestly).
As for your feet, vaseline over night.

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/09/2019 14:49

Compeed patches are amazing. I did the same as you with horribly blistered heels and couldn’t believe how Compeed took the pain away.

CMOTDibbler · 24/09/2019 15:07

The compeed plasters work so well that I would just keep your heels clean and dry over night and then plaster up tomorrow.

I use stretching spray and a shoe stretcher on shoes that are a little tight in one area - the stretcher was only a tenner

Brefugee · 24/09/2019 15:19

do the hairdryer thing and stretch them about while they're still warm with your hands, then put your feet in them and walk around until they cool. Repeat. Often. Wear them all the time when you're at home.

When you take them off and they're still warm use shoe stretchers so they don't shrink back as they cool.

We used to get told to wee in our army boots because urine is really good for stretching leather (and making it soft and supple) but if you don't want to do that, and you don't have shoe stretchers handy, while you have the shoes on and are walking round warming them up, dampen and crumple up a lot of newspaper and shove that in the shoes, the tighter the better, to help them stretch and keep your shape.

And Compeed plasters.

Good luck!
