Shoes rubbed heels raw - help!

Wore some new shoes today. Sensible but nice looking. Actually EVIL!!!! Rubbed my heels to shit before I could even get some plasters or compeed patches on them. They're now raw with the skin ripped off and so painful.

I've got some compeed patches to wear tomorrow but need a quick fix to get them to heal fast - AIBU to ask for your tips to fix horrendously damaged heels??? Should I soak them? Smother them in something? Leave them to air out?? Help!

You should maybe have got the bigger size plus insoles to help them fit

Shoutouttomyspecs · 24/09/2019 15:31

Rub the heels with a candle, this works wonders

Itsallpetetong · 24/09/2019 15:39

If you spray deodorant in the heel of the shoes it stops rubbing.

Compede plasters. Wait until feet have healed. Then wear them around house with socks in short bursts

thinkfast · 24/09/2019 15:43

Compeed. Work like a dream

ALittleBitAlexis · 24/09/2019 15:43

Compeeds are miracle workers, I'd put the plaster on tonight.

Shebertherbert · 24/09/2019 16:05

Sudocreme.

pancaketits · 24/09/2019 16:07

Lloyds Pharmacy do some amazing own brand blister plasters which I swear by. Leave them on until they drop off. I was in a similar situation to you and they worked a treat.

caperplips · 24/09/2019 16:35

compeed - saved my ravaged heels in Venice last year! My trip would have been ruined without them as had to walk everywhere. I could not believe how well they worked.

zxcvhjkl · 24/09/2019 16:39

Seconding the hairdryer method for the shoes. The shoes just need breaking in.

For your feet give them a nice soak and then let the air get to them. Put plasters on tomorrow and don't wear the shoes until you've fully broken them in around the house and with the hairdryer and thick socks method.

I saw an internet video of someone bandaging slices of tomato over their open blisters overnight that suggested they would heal miraculously. Pretty sure that's impossible but am v interested to find out if you would like to experiment for the good of womankind.

ElizaPancakes · 24/09/2019 16:49

Vaseline on the heels and two pairs of socks and a hairdryer to soften and stretch the leather.

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 24/09/2019 22:22

@ElizabethinherGermanGarden - I can confirm I will not be doing this.

I'm gonna say a sausage - then at least you can have fry in the morning with the egg & tomato Grin

GreenTulips · 24/09/2019 22:34

Get a blunt bitter knife and rub the inside of the heels to soften and stretch the leather

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 25/09/2019 22:21

Fair enough, OP!

Fstar · 25/09/2019 22:30

Savlon is good for them. Instead of plasters i use a cotton face pad (cut to size) then nude sports tape to hold in place as plasters burn mybskin

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 25/09/2019 22:40

Appreciate all the tips. Hobbled into work today in flip flops. Feet are ravaged and all the skin's been rubbed off so didn't fancy sticking anything over them just yet. I have been thinking about stretching the shoes but have put them away out of sight for now as just looking at them makes me feet sore

Compede plasters are brilliant once you have blisters but Micropore Silicone (can be be bought in different widths) is really excellent for prevention once you have healed.

GameChange123 · 25/09/2019 22:54

Surgical spirit on injured foot?

QuestionableMouse · 25/09/2019 22:58

Blister plasters then cover with a big patch of zinc oxide tape. Like three strips to totally cover the back of your heel. You want it to go round the side of your foot too a little way so it won't rub off. It'll protect the skin until it has chance to heal.

QuestionableMouse · 25/09/2019 23:00

Also morrisons do big gel patches that's the same stuff as the blister plasters.

fairislecable · 25/09/2019 23:07

I used to work in an upmarket shoe shop and we had a liquid spray to put onto leather shoes.

This was applied and then we stretched the shoe over the end of the broom handle. It did work and the customers were told the shoes had been adjusted.

ItsPeanutButterJelly · 26/09/2019 22:21

Thanks so much for all the ideas!

I left them to air for a couple of days but they were feeling tight and sore, I think because they were getting too dry. So today gave them a really good clean with sterile wipes, cut away all the old skin with sterile scissors and stuck some compeed on and OHMYGOD what a relief. These things are incredible! I'm going to stock up on boxes for my first aid kit.

Also going to look for some shoe stretches and spray (and also try the hairdryer trick), get some zinc oxide tape.
