Boris Johnson should resign

He's lied to the Queen and shut down parliament illegally. He's not fit to be PM and should resign now.

She was educated in constitutional history, and has been the Queen for 70+ years. She has seen many PMs come and go and has learned a lot from some of them, especially Churchill. She knows the ins and outs better than most, and thus, being the embodiment of the Crown in parliament, is the leading expert. No-one else does what she does, do they?

You don't know any of that, just conjecture on your part.

It's fairly obv there can be only one head of state, so of course no else does what she does (whatever that is?)

Cinammoncake · 24/09/2019 21:51

everything he has done, he did in good faith

I think people have differing opinions about this

OP posts:
MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 21:52

He did in good faith?! Really? Have you not read the news recently? He’s a disgraceful human being who doesn’t deserve to clean shit off the streets, let alone run the bloody country.

LayLar360 · 24/09/2019 21:57

I believe he prorogued genuinely believing it to be lawful, but obviously not in good faith.

Cinammoncake · 24/09/2019 22:11

I'm sure he thought he could get away with it

I wonder if BJ really wanted to be at the helm during such a divided period; everyone says that he wants to be 'Liked'. He's going to end up more disliked than Thatcher. He's not thick skinned NYorker like DTrump. yet BJ is embracing cummings' "Take no Prisoners" strategy. Confusing guy.

Alexander's arse is ablaze. He says he won't resign, fat liar that he is - byeee!

milveycrohn · 24/09/2019 22:47

I am surprised that Jeremy Corben does not want a General Election. I thought he had a lot of support. My DS thinks he is scared of winning!

ethelfleda · 24/09/2019 23:26

Of course he should. His behaviour is abhorrent.

the Monarch is indeed above the law. Note, for example, her cars carry no registration plates. Please see www.royal.uk/queen-and-law

StoneofDestiny · 25/09/2019 06:02

The Tories have him as their leader as they believe he is the best they have got! He is an amoral liar whose only interest is in making a name for himself. He needs to go - but has not got enough backbone to do the right thing for the country, preferring to do the right thing for himself.

minesagin37 · 25/09/2019 06:19

I am failing to understand why he hasn't resigned already! It's despicable he is still in charge of the country! The UK has lost its moral compass completely.

Really222 · 25/09/2019 06:22

Yes surely there must be someone advising him to go, doubtless not Cummings Angry.

WeshMaGueule · 25/09/2019 07:06

Given she is the leading constitutional expert in the UK

Gosh, I must have missed her PhD viva and subsequent glittering legal career.

longwayoff · 25/09/2019 07:13

It will take a bit more than advice to unseat this entitled grabber, a man who has alienated his wife, children, brother, lovers and half the country in pursuit of vainglorious self interest. A completely unprincipled descendant of European aristocracy who knows he deserves more and plans to take it. Yay
Boris, supporter of the little working man against a ruling elite. It would be funny if I had any humour left.

Tonnerre · 25/09/2019 07:57

everything he has done, he did in good faith

How can you lie repeatedly and still be acting in good faith?

Tonnerre · 25/09/2019 08:04

Given she is the leading constitutional expert in the UK, she can hardly have been misled.

She had a few sessions with a constitutional historian as a teenager and has had weekly chats with the PM of the day. That doesn't make anyone a constitutional expert. The main point, however, is that constitutionally she has to accept what the government tells her: if she'd refused to sign the prorogation order, solids would have hit the fan in a big way. That is why it is so important that what the government tells her is the truth, a basic fact that the likes of Johnson and Rees-Mogg seem unable to grasp, mainly because to them the truth is much less important than their ability to stay in power and make money.

jasjas1973 · 25/09/2019 08:10

@VeniVidiWeeWee

Well, i didn't know that! apparently she can quite literally get away with murder... another reason to get rid of them all, this cannot be right.

Thank you for correcting me.

CendrillonSings · 25/09/2019 08:10

If you bother to read the judgement, you’ll find that those 11 experts in constitutional law do not find that Boris misled the Queen. Their judgement is confined to the effect alone.

CendrillonSings · 25/09/2019 08:12

I am surprised that Jeremy Corben does not want a General Election. I thought he had a lot of support.

If that were true, he would be the first party leader ever to refuse an election because he believed he’d win it! Grin

Ifartglitterybaubles · 25/09/2019 08:22

I dont think he should resign. He didn't lie to the Queen and everything he has done, he did in good faith. Its only been decided it was illegal stopping parliament after it went to Supreme Court....there was no law in place, and it's still debatable really as it was a test case in that there has never been a case like it before. In other words there was no law in place to start with, it was decided it was illegal, after the event. I think it was also done with good intentions to stop any more delays.

Has JRM joined MN?

Solitarycaddis · 25/09/2019 08:25

Scaryteacher Do you not think that the courts should step in when government's break the law?

Figmentofmyimagination · 25/09/2019 08:36

Listening to the radio, it’s amazing how many ‘voxpop’ interviewees want to be ruled by an executive with no oversight by parliament or the Supreme Court, as long as Johnson ‘delivers brexit’ - the 21st century equivalent to ‘as long as the buses run on time’. It’s as if they’ve never heard of Mussolini et al. This is why referenda are so disliked because of the way they inspire fascism.

Figmentofmyimagination · 25/09/2019 08:44

scaryteacher he has indeed broken the law. That’s why the judgment says that the decision is void and has no effect - it was ‘void ab initio’ - as if it never happened - because it was unlawful. That’s why parliament was never prorogued.
