Just opened the curtains to watch a neighbour drop his cigarette out of the car window on to the road directly outside my house. He only lives three houses down on the other side, he could have taken it home. Our road is fairly neat and tidy. I hate littering, it's so disrespectful. Imagine if he did this seven days of the week, the road would be such a mess.
I feel like crossing over the road on the way to school and taking his cigarette butt and leaving it on his driveway. I know I sound petty and unreasonable but this has really grated on me. Would you do anything if you witnessed a person's blatant disregard for the environment around them?

He dropped a solitary fag butt. The bastard. Aye, go pick it up and put it on his drive way whilst he watches, and then come back and tell us how that goes for you...

This is obviously the attitude many smokers have, but each butt takes about a decade to decompose and there are hundreds of millions thrown away each year.
It's disgusting, it's anti social and is worse than dog poo in my opinion.

I would put it in his letter box.

The problem is, it's "just one butt" for multiple people in multiple places.And they take ages to decompose.
So many people seem to be lazy and ignorant. Take your litter home!

Our neighbour used to throw his fag butts over the hedge into our front garden I used to throw them back.

Next doors daughters boyfriend sleeps over often, he pulled outside our house yesterday, got out his car, walked round it, spat a massive glob out his mouth onto our front drive, got back in his car and drove off.

I'll just give him daggers through the blind when I see him. Its just gross and not very courteous of other people.

I remember being told a story as a brownie. I can't remember all the details but it started with one person dropping some rubbish, then another person then people started to think thats where rubbish goes and quickly it turned into a tip. The moral was its never just 'one piece of rubbish'.

I would be tempted to put it in an envelope with a note about taking his rubbish home with him.

Not sure I'd feel that way if I trod on a fag butt instead of a pile of dog poo but yes it's still rank.

I'm a smoker but Im always courteous with it. Including binning the butt.

Not sure I'd stick it on his driveway though. You won't achieve much. Take the moral high ground and stick it in the bin. Preferably while he's watching.

You’re right, over a week it could be 7 cigarettes you wouldn’t be able to leave the house.

I wish that people would stop treating littering as a joke or relatively harmless. It's far from that. It's the most common form of littering and one of the worst.

Not much you can do, you'd start a war probably if you were seen in his driveway doing that. Just pick it up, as one butt usually means other passers by then add to it IME.

You have reminded me of the driver of the white van that stopped on the dropped kerb outside my house instead of the space behind which was empty, or the house where he was delivering, just down the road, and emptied all his rubbish on the pavement, oily tissues, snotty tissues, fag butts, food wrappers...

It is so nice to leave the house to find a heap of stinking fag butts on the pavement where someone has emptied their ashtray too.

Someone who works with DS1 dropped a solitary fag butt, as did his wife. They both got a £100 fine. Oh, how they moaned. Served the fuckers right imo.

My neighbour opens his fag packets and always drops the plastic wrapping in our garden. I got so pissed off I collected them all for two weeks and put them through his door in an envelope. I think he got the message as he hasn't done it again.

yep do it - I had a house mate years ago that just left rubbish lying around - like he's just drop a crisp packet on the stairs and leave it there - he spilled loads of crisps one day on the living room floor and left it there - so in anger I swept up the crumbs, took them to outside his bedroom and used my hairdryer to blow the crumbs in under his door into his room - hahah bit of a mad moment but I had enough at that stage!!
