Just that really. Amazon seems to have had an explosion of older films. I love rediscovering someone that I rented once from the video shop as a kid! What rubbish yet compelling film do you love.

Mine is Howard the Duck

Raising Arizona
Do the right thing- not naff just good

Ronia · 22/09/2019 19:58

@Furrydogmum true. I forgot that being crap was part of the criteria Grin

BBCK · 22/09/2019 20:01

Most of the suggestions are actually great for films. So I’m going to stick with great film that have been forgotten.

The Abyss
Alien
My Cousin Vinny

pfcpompeysarah · 22/09/2019 20:01

Another one I've just remembered, it's not crap but counts as 80s/90s fluffy entertainment films, and that's Mystic Pizza.

Stuffofawesome · 22/09/2019 20:01

Also Grosse pointe blank

JoyceJeffries · 22/09/2019 20:03

Frankie and Jonny.

SkaraBrae · 22/09/2019 20:03

Withnail and I is a classic! (Get in the back of the van)

Loved Willow (still do, great music and sexy Val Kilmer).
Still love The Neverending Story. I bored my kids senseless playing the song in the car. Then had a moment of triumph when it was prominently featured in Stranger Things and a new generation realised how fab it is!

Watched Speed with my teen this weekend, she thought Keanu was 'really cute'.

Lost Boys is awesome.

Can't watch Dirty Dancing anymore- Baby is 16 and Johnny is 28!
I so relate to the poor harassed dad in the film... Grin

SkaraBrae · 22/09/2019 20:05

Steel Magnolias- I still cry.

Working Girl
Regarding Henry
Last of the Mohicans

CigarsofthePharoahs · 22/09/2019 20:06

Flatliners. Just utterly terrible, but a chance to see Kiefer Sutherland before he had work done.
Someone actually suggested Mac and Me? I recently re watched it with the Rifftrax commentary. I'd forgotten how the aliens gave me nightmares. Gah!
The Princess Bride
Short Circuit
Crocodile Dundee

pfcpompeysarah · 22/09/2019 20:06

@Scentsandsensible Is it weird that I can remember, at the tender age of 45, all the words to that song as if it was yesterday? 80s films (and their songs, Footloose is another) stick with you in a way films now really don't!

heidbuttsupper · 22/09/2019 20:06

So l Married An Axe Murderer
King Pin

Goonergirl14 · 22/09/2019 20:08

Romy and Michele's High School Reunion

SkaraBrae · 22/09/2019 20:10

I missed a few pages of this thread but thumbs up to whoever mentioned Roadhouse.

All the worst 80s clichés you could think of.
Brilliant.

On another note I remember Witness as being really good.
And of course Thelma and Louise.

PuppyMonkey · 22/09/2019 20:11

The answer to this is almost always Armageddon.

Or maybe Pretty Woman.

JoyceJeffries · 22/09/2019 20:11

Sleeping with the Enemy.

SkaraBrae · 22/09/2019 20:14

@PuppyMonkey I cried at Armageddon... Blush

Speaking of action films Dead Blue Sea was fun!
So were the Mummy movies.

rosieposey · 22/09/2019 20:14

Batteries not included, still makes me cry

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 22/09/2019 20:16

Mannequin
Short Circuit
Adventures in Babysitting
Say Anything
When Harry Met Sally

But my favourite is...
The Cutting Edge - figure skating romance glory

SkaraBrae · 22/09/2019 20:18

Best soundtrack to a film (and pretty fun film too)- Singles

Dead Poets Society (watched again the other day with my teen- she loved it)

And how about Reality Bites??? I so wanted to be Winona...

SkaraBrae · 22/09/2019 20:20

OMG I'd forgotten The Cutting Edge!!!! (toepick).
I LOVE that film. Might go watch it right now...

Ok I need to step away from this thread...Grin

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 22/09/2019 20:21

Toepick! Yes!

chomalungma · 22/09/2019 20:21

thegreatesttrickthedevilpulled · 22/09/2019 20:27

Crocodile Dundee 1&2

Propertyofhood · 22/09/2019 20:27

Someone actually suggested Mac and Me? I recently re watched it with the Rifftrax commentary. I'd forgotten how the aliens gave me nightmares. Gah!

What are you talking about?

The amazing acting!
The totally realistic aliens!
The genius plot! (Especially when the aliens are at the citizenship ceremony at the end, what a tearjerker)
The subliminal and not at all obvious Macdonalds product placement!

It's a classic Grin

snowone · 22/09/2019 20:29

The Goonies
Dirty dancing
Pretty woman
Grease
The Bodyguard

Grin
