Just that really. Amazon seems to have had an explosion of older films. I love rediscovering someone that I rented once from the video shop as a kid! What rubbish yet compelling film do you love.

Mine is Howard the Duck

Tremors, Overboard and Willow. Might try to find one tonight now Grin

Redcrayons · 22/09/2019 18:17

most of these films aren’t even crap —or I’m really low brow with no taste—.
My choice Weekend At Bernie’s. My DCs and me thought it was hilarious.

Howlovely · 22/09/2019 18:20

Drop Dead Fred and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe plus Three Men and a Baby/Little Lady and Look Who's Talking are firm faves here.

Howlovely · 22/09/2019 18:22

Honey I Shrunk the Kids!

PippiDeLena · 22/09/2019 18:23

Forever Young with Mel Gibson awful brilliant

Ruskies with a young River Phoenix. It's about a Russian soldier who gets injured when he falls out of his submarine (I think?) And washes up on the California coast. He befriends a group of kids, who try to protect him from the evil CIA agents hunting him. It's like The Goonies but with a Cold War twist.

God I love crappy 80s films.

June340oo · 22/09/2019 18:25

Overboard - my favourite film! Roughly late 1980’s I think it came out.

Propertyofhood · 22/09/2019 18:29

Can't believe no one has said Mac and Me yet - best film ever! 😂😂😂

SundayShawl · 22/09/2019 18:30

Ladyhawke
Tremors
Big Trouble in Little China
The Shadow

Chosennone · 22/09/2019 18:38

Goonies is amazing
Stand by Me is a classic
Dirty Dancing
The breakfast club
Bill & Ted
Gremlins 1 and 2
Temple of doom is the BEST Indiana Jones

Furrydogmum · 22/09/2019 18:40

@Ronia I still have both on video!!

Furrydogmum · 22/09/2019 18:41
  • but they're not crap so don't count 😂😂
Mattttttt · 22/09/2019 18:42

Roadhouse. So awfully bad it’s actually good, but it does have some quite funny lines, and Patrick Swayze has never looked betterSmile

Bohemond · 22/09/2019 18:43

Stand by me - the original River Phoenix movie
Pretty in Pink - James Spader as the bad guy
Sex, lies and video tape - James Spader (sensing a theme?)
St Elmo’s Fire - can’t believe it hasn’t been mentioned yet!
Point Break

Ginger1982 · 22/09/2019 18:44

Troop Beverly Hills!

Bohemond · 22/09/2019 18:46

Oops - just realised the theme was crap movies and 3 of mine are not really crap!

Ginger1982 · 22/09/2019 18:48

My Girl - I still cry 😭

JoyceJeffries · 22/09/2019 18:48

First Wives Club
The Goonies
far and Away
Romancing the Stone

Charmatt · 22/09/2019 18:49

Gremlins 1 and 2
Hot Shots 1 and Part Deux
Pretty Woman
Drop Dead Fred
Brassed Off
Educating Rita
Plunked and Macleane

Problem Child 2 - I saw this with my then BF (now DH) when I was 19 because there was nothing else on at the cinema. We were loved it. Most of the parents there didn't! Don't expect it to be highbrow, but if you want a good laugh, watch it!

36degrees · 22/09/2019 19:08

Fairly low budget and underrated at the time:
Night of the Comet
Clerks

Ones I've heard of but haven't seen:
Flight of the Navigator
Innerspace
The Lost Boys

Ones I loved because the actors played against type: One Hour Photo, The Majestic, What Lies Beneath - into the early 00s but in the ballpark of some of the films mentioned above.

And Mermaids, too. Loved that film.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 22/09/2019 19:11

Mannequin. So fucking awful it's brilliant.

Scratchyfluffface · 22/09/2019 19:18

So many, but looking at those that haven't been on the list
GI Jane
Cutting Edge
Flight of the Navigator
Mighty Ducks
Lost Boys
Prayer of the Rollerboys
Licence to drive (spot the Corey Haim fan 😉)
Action films were great then so all the usual Die Hards, Lethal Weapons
Sliding Doors
Deep blue sea

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/09/2019 19:20

All the John Hughes films
Dirty Dancing
Footloose
Cool Runnings

Scentsandsensible · 22/09/2019 19:21

I adored flight of the navigator- remember watching it in the cinema and for years going into the video shop (remember them?) to see if it was out yet.

Inner space was fab too.
