Mums of baby boys (Autumn wardrobe)

Am I being unreasonable to think that baby boys' clothes everywhere are dark and drab? I've looked over the weekend in Next, Matalan and some supermarkets and have been left feeling so uninspired. The new season Autumnal clothes in particular all seem to be navy, grey or dark green and a lot of them are ruined further by garish slogans.

Granted I'm very fussy but girls' clothes in comparison are so lovely and colourful and look as though time and thought have been put into their design.

If anyone is able and willing to point me in the direction of some classic baby boy outfits (preferably with a splash of colour) please point me in their direction!

Thanks Smile

My boy is older but I like H&M for bright colours.

AlmostAlwyn · 22/09/2019 15:38

They have some nice, bright designs at Frugi, Toby Tiger and Little Green Radicals (keep an eye on their sale sections!). You could also try Duns of Sweden.

As for mainstream shops, occasionally you'll find bright options in H&M or Marks and Spencer, Zara, etc, so you might be lucky once in a while! Also check the "girls" section, though I agree, the proliferation of horrible slogans is a nightmare!

Bellsofstclements · 22/09/2019 15:41

Sainsbury's had lots of brights when we popped in to get jumpers the other day.

jobbymcginty · 22/09/2019 15:43

I like frugi Jojo mama Bebe H&M gap and tu I buy a lot of eBay had some fantastic buys

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 22/09/2019 15:46

It's the slogans I can't stand. It's hard to find boys t shirts that don't have something irritating like "Here Comes Trouble!" written on them. I like H&M for boys clothes and I noticed when I was in Morrisons the other day that they had lots of baby boys clothes in lovely autumnal colours. Makes a change from blue and grey.

Twickerhun · 22/09/2019 15:47

Try Sainsbury’s!

georgialondon · 22/09/2019 15:48

Polarn o pyret or Frugi!

Migrainefun · 22/09/2019 15:51

Definitely look at scandi brande. I like frugi, Duns, kite etc. I have 3 toddlers and hate all the dull boys stuff in high street shops!

Beesandcheese · 22/09/2019 15:53

There's loads out there. But one simple thing is to stop looking for a seasonal look. Get a range of long and short sleeves (and vests) in colours you like when you see them. Then layer up. For us around 15 short sleeved tops and 6 long sleeve tops is more than enough with 2 hoodies. Then when they are grown or worn out I shop around.

elizzza · 22/09/2019 15:54

Just buy the “girls” clothes if you like those better?

Beesandcheese · 22/09/2019 15:54

And I agree look for the scandi or organic labels as they seem to work more of a colour palette.

Amanduh · 22/09/2019 15:55

Sainsburys, jojo maman, h&m, frugi, morrisons, m&s and actually next do have a lot of bright colours and blues in their new season stuff if you look online! There is a lot of drab grey around at the moment in girls clothing too.

Beesandcheese · 22/09/2019 15:56

Kite / M&S / Frugi and Next might be more your thing if you want a classic look but with colour. The scandI tend more towards a modern look.

FrauHaribo · 22/09/2019 15:56

I have only dressed my boys in navy, grey and dark colour, I hate bright colours for my girls too, and I am sure half the shops are always full of bright colours.

PseudoQuim · 22/09/2019 15:58

Another vote for Frugi. I have a code for a free reusable coffee cup if you order from them for the first time Link removed by MNHQ for privacy and they have some offers on at the moment.

Toby Tiger have some nice bright bits this season too.

brokenladyxx · 22/09/2019 16:00

@MinisterforCheekyFuckery oh god I'm exactly the same! Hate it when there's a lovely t shirt or jumper with some stupid writing sprawled across the front Envy

Piglet89 · 22/09/2019 16:03

Couldn’t give a monkey’s to be honest. All my som’s Baby grows are second hand from Gumtree (he’s only a month old though). Don’t want to add to the already substantial contribution the clothing industry makes to climate change.

FrauHaribo · 22/09/2019 16:15

Even if you buy second hand clothes, you can still have some preferences? There are so much baby clothes on sell second hand, pretty sure you could buy only what you like.

Piglet89 · 22/09/2019 16:24

Sure, I guess. I just think I personally don’t have the bandwidth to worry about what my fashion choices are for my son. He’s currently wearing a second hand stormtroopers babygro, which was the first thing I laid my hands on this morning.

avacadooo · 22/09/2019 16:25

Asda!
Also found a neon green monster print top in primark the other day along with some nice colourful plaid shirts

Elletine · 22/09/2019 16:34

GAP - amazing

GrumpiestCat · 22/09/2019 16:37

I love the Scandinavian brands. Interesting colours and patterns. I used to go on the Nordic Kids website to find them.

DappledThings · 22/09/2019 16:43

I recently bought DD some trousers from Morrisons, tops from Mothercare and a jumper from Asda, all from the boys section. I struggle to find girls clothes that aren't pink/frilly sleeved/covered in fucking unicorns.

Boots is good too.

AveAtqueVale · 22/09/2019 16:45

Look at the Facebook groups Love for the Scandi clothes and Love for the non-scandi clothes - lots of lovely bright bits second-hand on both. And the supermarkets do have things but you need to hunt. Had my youngest out in this today (see pic) which I really love, and my eldest was in bright red joggers from Tesco and a bright yellow jumper from Sainsbury's - he's started choosing his own outfits and seems to aim to include as many primary colours as possible.
