To think there’s no point in saving Thomas Cook because no one will book with them now anyway

Just that really.

Obviously I hope all those currently abroad and already booked are brought home quickly and / or compensated but what’s the point in them carrying on

Would you book with them now?

To the person who asked above.. I booked through travel republic, flights are TC but hotel isn’t. Spoke to TR today, and seem to be covered by their ATOL (which I wasn’t sure about as it isn’t a package in the traditional sense). If TC fail overnight TR will try to get us on an alternative flight. Still been an anxious day though! Taxi picks us up at 9.30, so praying we have something in place by then.

Have a friend, single parent, losing her job at their foreign currency counter

beverlymarsh · 22/09/2019 22:15

www.itv.com/news/2019-09-22/thomas-cook-administration/ Looks like it’s going into administration

beverlymarsh · 22/09/2019 22:16

Although nothing on bbc and on the bbc now they are still saying talks are ongoing.... I can’t be doing with this any longer 🤯

TidaQuel · 22/09/2019 22:23

They can’t announce the administration until they have all aircraft on uk soil or enroute for the uk. Once that last flight has departed for the uk they will announce it I think. Very sad to see them go.
Had really hoped they’d manage a rescue but I think if it was likely they’d be hinting at good news. Aircraft immobilised for a repatriation program..... its another sad day for the holiday / airline industry 😢

Slappadabass · 22/09/2019 22:23

FFS! Looks like I'm not getting married then! Sad
Really feel for all the people out of a job, how shit!

HairyFloppins · 22/09/2019 22:23

What a shame, really feel for the staff.

ShitFuckBastardBollocks · 22/09/2019 22:26

So sorry Slap :(

Is there any way you could get flights from another airline?

beverlymarsh · 22/09/2019 22:26

I re-read that article and it didn’t actually say anything new so I’m sorry if it was unhelpful to post it.

We just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. Really crap for all involved especially the staff.

Slappadabass · 22/09/2019 22:35

The whole thing flights/holiday/wedding was booked through Thomas Cook so it will be all cancelled if they do go into administration, luckily it's all ATOL protected so we will be refunded for it all other than the extras we booked plus solicitors and hotel airport, we are very disappointed but I can't complain (too much) there's others in much worse situations.

Mooncupblues · 22/09/2019 22:46

They were always more expensive than Tui every time I checked a holiday price.

I’ve just booked a Disney holiday with Magic Breaks and it seems unclear about whether they’re connected or not so slightly concerned about that. Wondering if it’s worth making a payment of £100 on my cc just now.

PancakeAndKeith · 22/09/2019 22:48

That is very decent of you to think of others Slapped. Many other people would be mad as hell and complaining, and understandably so.

I hope your wedding is even better than you hope.

BringOnTheScience · 22/09/2019 22:53

Guardian now reckons it's all over www.theguardian.com/business/2019/sep/22/thomas-cook-in-last-ditch-talks-to-avoid-collapse

Slappadabass · 22/09/2019 22:53

I am mad, but mainly disappointed, I've been so excited and now I'm on a downer and I've got two disappointed children, But I've also been in the situation lots of the staff are in right now where your wondering how the hell your going to keep a roof over your head, feed your kids and pay the bills and it's bloody awful, so it doesn't really compare when we will be getting the majority of the money we paid back and I can book again.

Nat6999 · 22/09/2019 22:55

Does anyone know what is happening to anyone on holiday with TC at the moment? Got a friend who is in Lanzarote until Thusday, they haven't seen a rep since all this blew up.

Slappadabass · 22/09/2019 22:57

@Nat6999 News reports say that the government have set in place planes to get everyone home, some have already been sent (apparently)
She will get home, legally the UK have to get her back, might not be on the day she planned though so she may need to sort accommodation, I'm guessing when the news breaks officially more info will be available on how/when people will be getting home.

NichyNoo · 22/09/2019 22:58

I would never book with Thomas Cook or TUI as the exact same holidays are always hundreds of pounds cheaper if you book with Jet2.

However, I do wonder why they haven't been bailed out. £200 million is small change for big city investors - I wonder why the money hasn't been raised & guaranteed. It makes me think that the business model must have some serious flaws.

I have real sympathy for people who's holidays or even weddings have been ruined. I can't even begin to think how stressful it must be.

@NichyNoo their business model really does seem to be charging hundreds/thousands more for the same holiday as Tui etc. I don’t see how they’ve lasted as long.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 22/09/2019 23:08

I've booked with Thomas cook for next April to go to Orlando staying on a Disney site.

No idea what to do now
Wait it out or book with someone else.

For what it's worth they were helpful and competitive. Much nicer to deal with than virgin.

MarthasGinYard · 22/09/2019 23:08

It's truly sad times

DH and I will most likely be jobless by 3am.

Crap management at the top of the tree.

I won't be sleeping tonight.

stairway · 22/09/2019 23:09

We went on a last minute holiday with Thomas cook this summer. It was excellent value at around £2000 self catering in Majorca, we even had a kids club as well. If they survive I would still consider them. Any package provider can go bust. I wouldn’t book outside Europe though.

PancakeAndKeith · 22/09/2019 23:10

I’m so sorry to hear that Martha.

Teddybear45 · 22/09/2019 23:12

Thomas Cook’s cheap deals were the only reason why a lot of UK travellers went to certain countries for a package holiday (Tunisia for example). Those countries’ tourist industries will now suffer.

Imnotbent · 22/09/2019 23:14

Jet2 holidays have shot up in the last few days because they know no one will book with TC.
