Nicknames for DC (lighthearted)

Okay so full disclosure this is a light hearted thread.

First time mum and I have an 11 week old DD who me and DH call "the gremlin" we call her this as we don't feed her after 3.30pm until bedtime (don't feed gremlins after midnight)

We were out at a bbq yesterday with extended family and friends and DH asked in passing if I had fed the gremlin. One of the stepford wife mums was horrified that we call her this and said how bad she thought it was and gave us a lecture on how bad it can be developmentally... And I can't remember what else she said in this lecture as I switched off roll eyes

First off...

  1. Have you seen gizmo. He is cute as fuck.
  2. I call her a lot worse at 4am when she's up for the 6,724th time that night lol

I obv just politely laughed when she was done and said not to be so silly and walked away and then me and DH just about pissed ourselves laughing.

Anyway..... what not so adoring nicknames did you give your DC and why?

Our youngest is often called El Jefe, not very PC but he truly is the little boss of this house

Venger · 22/09/2019 09:45

Toddler DD is known as The Radgie or Radge Packet.

Oldest DD is Tony, she dances and we used to sing "hold me closer, tiny dancer" as a joke which became "hold me closer, Tony Danza" like the joke and now we call her Tony. She'll tell this story to a therapist one day.

Oldest DS is Biggles which is a combination of Big as he is the biggest/oldest, his actual name, and Jiggles which is what we called him before he was born.

Youngest DS is C-dawg or C-bizzle, he was only little and our youngest at the time so we decided he needed a rap name using his first initial.

They have other, outing, nicknames based on variations and rhymes of their first names.

TroysMammy · 22/09/2019 09:46

Sorry to be picky but although Gizmo is cute he's a mogwai not a gremlin. Gremlins are the things that pop off him when the rules are broken and then cause chaos.

Absolutely nothing wrong in giving a child a nickname unless they hate it. My exh's niece was nicknamed maggot by her DGM.

birdling · 22/09/2019 09:47

Ours are known collectively as 'The Whingers'

LakieLady · 22/09/2019 09:49

DSS was known as The Incredible Bulk until he was about 5. He was an 8lb 10oz baby and just got bigger and bigger really fast (tall, as well as broad and chunky). At nine months, he was huge for his age and looked like he should be walking about and starting to talk.

Once he started school, he seemed to just get taller and had more normal proportions and at 14, his growth slowed quite dramatically.

DP and his ex honestly thought that they had some sort of freakish giant on their hands for several years, though.

Venger · 22/09/2019 09:49

Privately, out of their hearing, and in a tone of exasperated affection we have some less savoury nicknames - Shithead 1, Shithead 2, Shithead 3, and Shithead 4.

userabcname · 22/09/2019 09:58

DS was Mr Potato when he was newborn (I maintain all newborns look like potatos). Then became Sausage. Now we call him Duck because he used to flap his arms when he started sitting. Making a concerted effort to use his actual name now though as he is 2 and fairly sure he thinks his name is actually Duck so teaching him his real one!

Walkthroughthefire · 22/09/2019 10:01

Ds is foghorn leghorn as he's so bloody loud and is regularly called disgusting child but mostly Mogwai.
Dd2 has several - tiny terror, mini menace, radgy pants, mini mog.
I love nicknames, they're affectionate and funny. I think gremlin is actually quite cute, seems a popular theme for nn's.

Pomegranateseeds · 22/09/2019 10:04

Not the point at all, but why don’t you feed your 11 week old after 3.30pm? Did I read that wrong?

Pomegranateseeds · 22/09/2019 10:05

Oh - UNTIL BEDTIME, sorry, I understand now. So you get her hungry and then fill her up right before bed?

grinandwave · 22/09/2019 10:09

DD is affectionately known as chunky, and DH occasionally calls her Toby🙄

FedUp1850 · 22/09/2019 10:09

My mum calls my little girl Grindylow from Harry Potter and I was called Crusty as a kid Hmm

Venger · 22/09/2019 10:10

So you get her hungry and then fill her up right before bed?

By 11wks old she'll have probably fallen into a pattern for feeds, growth spurts aside. Mine were all going roughly 2-4hrs between feeds by then so a feed at 3.30pm would mean they wouldn't want another until approx 6.30pm aka, bedtime.

FedUp1850 · 22/09/2019 10:10

Oh and my dad calls me Her Majesty..

combatbarbie · 22/09/2019 10:16

2nd DD was Piranha due to cluster feeding

youarenotkiddingme · 22/09/2019 10:16

Lucifer stop 😂😂😂 sorry but I'd have been laughing too!

Ted(s) short for shithead(s) is inspired.

I know an adult shithead. I think me and my colleague may NN him Ted on the quiet. Easier to talk about him Wink

therealcj · 22/09/2019 10:18

Eldest is Google he has an answer for everything.
My skinny 12 year old is Chunk and has been chunk since he was about 6 months old.
Youngest has 2 most people call her Wednesday as in Addams and husband calls her Bruce for some unknown reason.

Jokie · 22/09/2019 10:21

DD1 is poops or poopy monster. DD1 is "little B" after little bast**d as from the time he was in my tummy, to now, he has his own routine and does things when HE wants and screw the rest of us.

When my DD is throwing a tantrum, we often say: we do not negotiate with the tiny terrorist. Nothing bar about it.

My DD has gotten upset when I've called another kid "Poopy monster" as that's her name!

peakygal · 22/09/2019 10:24

I call my youngest Satan or Satans love child because she can have a wicked tantrum that resembles a possession 😂

Straycats · 22/09/2019 10:24

Middle daughter was nicknamed by my FIL as Butterball and it stuck😊
The Stepford wife needs to get a life, if you don't have humour when dealing with kids or husbands (sorry lads) life would be a misery as she was.

littlestrawby · 22/09/2019 10:28

Potato. Because she looked like a little potato head when she was a young baby 😁 also sometimes 'frog' as a result of me calling her a wiggly frog when she was discovering how to use her legs as a baby! She answers to both now at 21 months 😁

SluggishSnail · 22/09/2019 10:36

My DS is Mr Pickle, as he was always getting himself into a bit of, well, a pickle as a toddler.

Now 14 and still called it.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 22/09/2019 10:37

Stinkabellle
Bumbalina
Or just whinge bag.

Also about 6 different variations that came from her name but are now so far removed that they bear no resemblance.

DollyTots · 22/09/2019 10:42

Our 3 year old DD has been 'madam' since birth

MitziK · 22/09/2019 10:42

DP's childhood nickname was Sumo because, aged 9 months, he was a healthy, normal weight baby.

He has an eating disorder. The moment he hears the name again, usually at a restaurant, he stops eating for days.

Of course, you calling your children slightly tempered variations of Fat/Greedy/Glutton is 'affectionate'. Sure as hell doesn't feel like that to the kid concerned, especially if it gets discovered by the other kids at school.
