...eating more than one type of meat together. I know it's strange as I'm in no way vegetarian and love my meats, but the idea of eating a meal with 2 different meats or a meat other than beef with cheese just makes me feel physically sick (and I'm not just saying that). I don't know why, but it instantly ruins a meal for me.

I told DH to buy us some posher ready meals as a treat tonight as we've been eating cheap ones for weeks. He bought me a posh lasagne which I've been looking forward to all day but I've just seen it's beef and pork, rather than just beef. I've now been completely put off, I physically cannot force myself to eat it. I'm going to give it to DD and have cheese on toast instead.

Does anybody else have this? I feel like a right weirdo.

Also wondering why all the (cheap) ready meals, but I’m sure there’ll be a massive drip feed!

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 22/09/2019 14:13

The meals I make and freeze are ready to put into the oven. What other ready meals are there? 😎

EskewedBeef · 22/09/2019 14:15

I'm not bothered if people have a multimeat carvery or whatever, but ramming birds inside each other like Russian dolls is madness. Who imagined that up?!

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 14:19

@Hydrogenbeatsoxygen they're not ready meals though are they.

LakieLady · 22/09/2019 14:28

Beef and cheese sounds odd to me!

Steak and stilton pie: bloody fabulous!

Ditton turkey, leek & gammon pie, the best meal of the whole Christmas period.

My ragu recipe uses pork mince as well as steak mince, and chicken livers.

Sausage and bacon with a full English, chicken and pancetta in a pasta bake, beef and pate in Tournedos Rossini, steak and kidney pie, liver and bacon, cassoulet, mixed grill - loads of classics use more than one meat.

Mixed fish is also fab, especially fish pie or bouillabaisse. In Dieppe, nearly every restaurant along the harbourside does a fish stew, all slightly all different, all fab.

I do eat my cheeseburgers in secret though because I'm supposed to be Jewish Grin

WestEndWendie · 22/09/2019 14:38

Lasagne is traditionally made with more than one type of meat. Ready means are just vile though.

I find bacon on burgers repulsive though so do know what you mean.

BrutusMcDogface · 22/09/2019 14:42

Didn’t King Henry 8th have birds stuffed inside birds at his massive banquets?!Grin

iklboo · 22/09/2019 14:46

Ready meals are the pre-packaged ones you buy in the shops and microwave (usually). Definitely not home made.

MacInTheBox · 22/09/2019 14:56

This reminds me of the Come Dine With Me episode where one of the contestants gets really upset and unsettled by being served a bird in a bird in a bird.

I personally love a mixed grill every now and again. And chicken wrapped with bacon. And chicken and chorizo. And bacon on a beef burger...

I'll get my coat!

Chocolatepeanuts · 22/09/2019 15:03

Surf and turf isnt an American thing its regularly on the menu here in part of the uk. As is beef n bird, or cock n bull as some call it. Yum.

tillytrotter1 · 22/09/2019 15:44

What about pigs in blankets at Christmas? That was my first thought!

That's not food it's therapy to repair the stresses of the season!

FrangipaniBlue · 22/09/2019 18:03

Mixed grill?
Special meats pizza?
Mixed cold meats with a cheese board?
Turkey and Gammon Pie?
Steak and Kidney Pudding?

and my favourite delicacy from my local butcher....... chicken breast stuffed with a mix of sausage meat and black pudding, wrapped in smokey bacon AKA a Flying Scotsman.

All you PPs who won't mix meats are really missing out Grin

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 18:23

Mixed grill I can manage, but that thing from your butchers sounds vile!!

FrangipaniBlue · 22/09/2019 18:26

🏃🏻‍♀️🤣🤣

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 22/09/2019 18:39

Out of interest, how do you feel about tapas-style meals OP? You could quite easily have a couple of different meats as part of that, but does it ‘count’ in the same way?

I’m totally with you all on the three bird roast thing though Envy

Daria32 · 22/09/2019 18:50

I’m fine with mixed meats ina mixed grill, or two different meats at a carvery (or 3!) But I absolutely cannot eat chicken and egg together (say in a salad for example) Freaks me out and I get the same kind of ick feeling as you do with meats! 🤷‍♀️
