...eating more than one type of meat together. I know it's strange as I'm in no way vegetarian and love my meats, but the idea of eating a meal with 2 different meats or a meat other than beef with cheese just makes me feel physically sick (and I'm not just saying that). I don't know why, but it instantly ruins a meal for me.

I told DH to buy us some posher ready meals as a treat tonight as we've been eating cheap ones for weeks. He bought me a posh lasagne which I've been looking forward to all day but I've just seen it's beef and pork, rather than just beef. I've now been completely put off, I physically cannot force myself to eat it. I'm going to give it to DD and have cheese on toast instead.

Does anybody else have this? I feel like a right weirdo.

Yanbu I really find it weird when you go to a Sunday roast carvery and they offer you various types of meat to go on the same plate.
Pigs in blankets doesn’t count as both the pig and blanket for from the same animal

LaBelleSauvage · 22/09/2019 00:13

How do you manage in restaurants?
Scallops with black pudding
Scallops with pancetta crisps
Bouillabaisse
Paella
Fish pie
Chicken balmoral
Beef wellington (has parma ham to seal in the mushrooms)

Have you never eaten any of these things? They are classic combinations..

MillicentMartha · 22/09/2019 00:14

Fish pie, salmon and cod and prawns etc? I make a mean tuna, mackerel and cod pasta sauce as well.

Chicken fajitas with cheese?

LaBelleSauvage · 22/09/2019 00:14

@Wizzbangpop the PP meant because you eat pigs in blankets with turkey as part of christmas dinner.
Pork and turkey

MillicentMartha · 22/09/2019 00:15

And pigs in blankets with a turkey roast?

Stonerosie67 · 22/09/2019 00:22

I'd be more bothered about eating cheap ready meals for weeks.

CharityConundrum · 22/09/2019 00:24

I despise mince as I only like meat in it's true form.

Also love chicken and pepperoni pizza.

Now I'm imagining pigs and cows in some weird 3 legged race whereby the leg they're joined at is just a huge pepperoni!

lololove · 22/09/2019 00:25

There's a lot of things that do make me 'funny' about food but this definitely isn't one. Pigs in blankets with a chicken roast, mixed cooked meat in a large plated salad, burgers with bacon, full english breakfasts with sausage and bacon, chicken and chorizo paella, chicken and bacon pasta bake, spaghetti bolognaise with lardons etc

My mum has ham, turkey, cheese and tomato buns too and says they're lovely.

lololove · 22/09/2019 00:27

Oooh as someone says above - meat feast pizza, yum! one of my favourite things to make is a home made chicken, bacon and pepperoni pizza

EmeraldShamrock · 22/09/2019 03:13

Me too. The only exception is Christmas dinner, I'll have Turkey and ham.
2 meat on a sandwich makes me vomit.
DP often orders a house special the smell of the beef chicken prawns altogether. 🤢

LadyLanka · 22/09/2019 06:34

As far as I am aware, the best way to eat what you want to eat is to make it yourself. That way you get to determine exactly what goes in.
I would dispute PPs' suggestions that sausages in bacon are 2 different types of meat. They are pork treated in different ways.
I do understand not wanting to have 2 different types of meat in one plate of food, though.

fluffiphlox · 22/09/2019 12:29

I think the weirdest thing here is that the OP is eating cheap ready meals for weeks and as a treat wants a posher ready meal. Is it just me?

Cambionome · 22/09/2019 12:31

I agree. Very weird, fluffi.

Areyoufree · 22/09/2019 12:33

No, but you must never mix peas and sweetcorn! That’s just wrong!

iklboo · 22/09/2019 12:33

A burger place round here puts king prawns on burgers 🤮🤢

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 22/09/2019 12:35

We often eat ready meals, they are very handy. I cook up a pan of either meat or veggie sauce and make lasagna in individual portions for the freezer. Chicken curry, fish pie and shepherds pie also freeze well.

LoonyLunaLoo · 22/09/2019 12:39

I was just wondering why no one was concerned about the eating of ready meals for weeks and got to the end of the thread and there they are. Also eating beef and cheese together?? Confused

I cant really comment on weird phobias as I have the fear of small holes thing Confused.

Cambionome · 22/09/2019 12:42

Um, that doesn't sound like a ready meal Hydrogen if you are making the sauce yourself? Confused

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 12:44

I’ve never eaten a ready meal Shock

ElizaDee · 22/09/2019 12:44

I'd rather have 2 meats mixed in a meal than eat ready meals for weeks Confused

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/09/2019 12:50

Beef and cheese sounds odd to me! I'd be more likely to have ham and cheese.

I think you're a bit unusual, sorry. Do many meals mix meats — what about a mixed grill? Usually pork, beef and lamb there, although I suppose they're "lumps" of meat and not mixed together. I often put bacon in a beef or chicken casserole.

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 12:53

Beef and cheese doesn’t seem that weird. Lasagne, cheese burgers, meat balls with Parmesan etc. All quite normal food.

iklboo · 22/09/2019 13:04

Pre-prepared yourself at home and frozen isn't a ready meal.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/09/2019 13:08

I was thinking of a cold beef and cheese sandwich Monstrance. Grin

You're right, beef and cheese is quite normal. In fact, when I do roast beef, I have leeks and bacon in cheese sauce as a side dish!

DitheringBlidiot · 22/09/2019 13:53

Pork and beef is pretty standard in a ragu. I find it weird that you will eat ready meals but won’t eat 2 meats on the same plate.
