To be comforted by finding a white feather?

Does anyone believe that white feathers (especially in unusual places) are a sign that someone is looking after you? I got into my car today and there was one on the centre console between the drivers seat and passenger seat. I've been worrying about lots of different things lately and feeling very down, and I'd like to think it was a sign from my Grandma telling me that everything is going to be ok.

Yes mine come out of my bedding. However, when a family member recently died it gave me such comfort to think that it was them. I know, but it helps the grief.

combatbarbie · 21/09/2019 16:43

People saying grow up and the like, get a grip, just because you don't believe doesn't mean other people don't or don't want to take comfort.

Op I find feathers frequently and always say hi to my grandparents, it brings me comfort x. Same expression goes with Robins, I now have a regular visitor in my garden, feed him etc he disappears for a while but then reappears... Often when I'm pondering life worries so I also take comfort in that.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/09/2019 17:10

If it brings you comfort, of course there’s no harm in it. It’s only a problem if you start to read too much into it - e.g. ‘I was worried it was a bad idea to quit my job, but now I know Granny is looking out for me and it will all be okay’.

DD2 and me recently lost our two beloved cats, they were our life and it's been so hard without them.

We are comforted by finding white feathers, we believe it's the two cats telling us they're ok, they're happy in Rainbow Bridge

Kolo · 21/09/2019 18:18

I’ve heard that they carry messages from lost loved ones. There’s a huge extended family of pigeons that live in the trees where I work, so there were loads of ‘messages’ last spring when they were moulting. I don’t really believe it, but it’s a nice thought all the same.

Saying that, the day after my mum’s funeral, a pigeon came into the house and sat on her armchair, bold as you like! It was a racing pigeon, we discovered, and managed to reunite it with its owner.

Looobyloo · 21/09/2019 18:25

Who's to say it isn't a loved one sending a message? There may be our loved ones watching over us from some other place, giving us subtle ways of telling us and we just ignore it and scoff. Noone knows for sure and if it brings you or anyone else comfort that's great.

BenWillbondsPants · 21/09/2019 18:28

I also take comfort from it OP. I like to think that it's my mum and dad just letting me know that they're with me. I've had cancer this year and been through various surgeries and treatments - I've found so many white feathers this year. Found one on my bookcase yesterday. Just makes me feel better.

Happily hunting angels.......Smile

Outsomnia · 21/09/2019 18:34

Doesn't matter if you believe or not it is just one of those things that can happen.

Like yesterday, two little white feathers that I am sure came from moulting birds somewhere landed on the patio. But then my uncle died two hours later, not unexpected, and I won a few bob on the Euromillions too.

I don't care, and I don't really believe it, but it is nice to think that they may have been thinking of me somehow. As long as the feeling is good, it is good.

Elieza · 21/09/2019 18:37

I totally believe. Especially when they are in a place that they wouldn’t be expected. Like your car.

Outside where birds are flying I still take comfort in them right enough.

If there are more than one of you then whomever sees it first it’s for them.

Talk to your angels. Ask them for guidance. Thank them when they help you. You will tune into stuff you wouldn’t have previously believed in. Like your grans perfume wafting around the house when she’s been dead years and years....weird thing like that.

We are conditioned to believe it’s bollocks and we are being silly yada yada, but I believe and it gives me comfort and harms nobody so why not Smile

sonjadog · 21/09/2019 18:39

When my last dog died for a while afterwards I kept finding white feathers outside my front door. There was enough of them to make me notice and think over it. And then I realized that there were pigeons nesting in my guttering over the porch.

Doesn't matter if it is real or not, if it gives you comfort then keep your belief in the feathers.

Motherinlawsdung · 21/09/2019 19:03

Is this part of the Nethuns invasion?

Considering how many feathers the average bird has and how many birds there are flying around, to say nothing of all the other feathers stuffed in duvets, cushions and puffa jackets, it’s a safe bet that the afterlife has nothing to do with it.

zukiecat · 21/09/2019 19:10

Thankyou Bertrand

I like that image, happily playing and hunting in Rainbow Bridge Smile

Sewrainbow · 21/09/2019 19:43

I WISH could believe it, I see them lots, last week one floated in front of my car while I was sat in traffic and I always think of people that have passed BUT the cynic in me always says its just a bird Sad

Shockers · 21/09/2019 19:48

My mum died this time last year. I have since taken comfort in lots of things I might have sneered at before.

Outsomnia · 21/09/2019 19:50

I don't believe it on a reality perspective, but I have to say a falling feather to me means a memory. Sounds mad, but there we are.

I remember reading the book by Gloria Hunniford about her young daughter Caron Keating who died at 41. She mentioned the feathers after she passed.

If it gives you comfort it is good. Who cares..... if it works for you it works for you

ssd · 21/09/2019 19:51

If it brings you comfort please don't listen to any doubters. I found 2 feathers after mum died at significant times and it comforted me when I was at rock bottom.

ISawyouinTescoyesterday · 21/09/2019 19:52

I do. And robins too. Yesterday I was waiting at the traffic lights and felt to look to my right. There was a gate with what looked like nature trail. A Robin appeared and then the lights changed and it flew off. Also been finding white feathers lately. I'm a definite believer that it is someone sending comfort.

Claphands · 21/09/2019 19:53

I’ve always found white feathers on the doorstep when someone has died, it’s a sign they’ve arrived wherever they are as far as I’ve always known.

Tiredemma · 21/09/2019 20:16

My Mum passed away in 2017. I didn't have a great relationship with her husband ( she left my dad when I was 18). On the day that her headstone was put on her grave I was absolutely floored to see that there was no mention of her being a much loved mother or grandmother, her husband had only made reference to her being his wife and it was as if the rest of us didn't exist.
I stood by my back door and looked out into my garden and said " mum if you are with me please send me a sign". Nothing happened and I honestly sobbed all the way into work. I felt completely crap and low.

For my job I have to wear a waist belt with pouch to keep my keys in. As I collected my keys I opened my pouch to to place my keys into and there was a huge white feather in the pouch. I cannot even begin to describe how that made me feel.

PinkiOcelot · 21/09/2019 20:23

I wouldn’t think anything if I found a white feather in my house as I have 4 parrots, but I do believe in it.

My brother was going through cancer treatment and found a white feather on his sofa (no birds in his house) and when were leaving the church after my brother’s funeral (different brother) he found a white feather on his shoulder.

bellalou1234 · 21/09/2019 20:28

I take comfort. Sometimes i ask my nana for guidance and then i see more feathers and lots of them and i feel.like shes listening to me. I know others would think i was bonkers

hoolahoolahoop · 21/09/2019 20:33

I believe in this too and the Robins. Actually brought tears to my eyes thinking of this and what it means to me 😊

Doryhunky · 21/09/2019 20:35

I never really knew the thing about feathers but I came across a few after my father’s death and it was like he was there
