To be comforted by finding a white feather?

Does anyone believe that white feathers (especially in unusual places) are a sign that someone is looking after you? I got into my car today and there was one on the centre console between the drivers seat and passenger seat. I've been worrying about lots of different things lately and feeling very down, and I'd like to think it was a sign from my Grandma telling me that everything is going to be ok.

I’ve heard this one before... personally no I don’t but it’s lovely that you do and I think anything that brings you comfort is important.

ScreamingValenta · 21/09/2019 15:55

If it brings you comfort, that can only be a good thing Flowers.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 21/09/2019 15:55

YANBU, but no doubt people will be here in a moment to take the piss out of us. I love finding feathers, I also love seeng robins.

Passthecherrycoke · 21/09/2019 15:56

My MIL is always doing on about feathers. The only possible way a feather can get into your house is from an angel, and the angel is always a decreased person close to her. Not that the feather has come from a bird or duvet etc.

I’ve never heard of anyone else saying it and have also never heard of the physical representation of angels in that way before- Ie that they’re literally shedding feathers to say hi.

Needtopaintmynails · 21/09/2019 15:57

My mother in law found a white feather on her husbands chair a couple of weeks after he died.

She took a lot of comfort in it.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or believes.

I think of my Dad when I see a perfect small white feather (usually from a pillow or duvet probably). Every now and then they crop up in unexpected places - sitting on the bonnet of my car or at the threshold of my front door. I know it's nonsense but it's a nice way to be reminded of people we have loved. I think it's meant to signify that an angel is watching over you.

Yep. YANBU. If you think it means something that’s all that matters.

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 21/09/2019 16:06

I take comfort from white feathers. On the morning of my father's funeral I was standing in my kitchen at the window, fretting about having to read a poem during his service and wondering if I'd be strong enough to do it. At that moment a single white feather fluttered down as I was looking out of the window and it was as though my dad was sending me a message and saying you'll be ok. Common sense tells me there was probably a bird on the roof shaking its wings but I don't care how childish it makes me seem because at that moment it gave me some comfort and that's all that matters.

Cherrysoup · 21/09/2019 16:07

Whatever makes you happy. I find feathers all the time, I have some c asking pheasant feathers from walks and I was fishing white feathers from the horse’s trough yesterday, just makes me think the seagulls have been for a drink.

WTF99 · 21/09/2019 16:07

I'm not in the least bit woo but I have heard of this. When it happens to me, it sometimes gives me a moment to stop and think about important people in my life who are no longer here, and how much we cared for each other and that I'm lucky to have had that.
It's not angel feathers, but it is comforting.

No need to be quite so miserable about it RedSheep Hmm

Holymolly · 21/09/2019 16:08

What's this about robin's cheeseoncrumpets ??

jamoncrumpet · 21/09/2019 16:08

It's utter nonsense as white feathers are everywhere and very easily blown places, but if it makes you feel happy then fine

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 21/09/2019 16:09

I have heard about people finding white feathers and realising their loved one is close. I haven't yet seen one since DH died and so it upsets me more than it should - I don't believe in that sort of stuff normally but I would feel comforted by seeing one I think.

Scabetty · 21/09/2019 16:10

RedSheep, there’s no need to tell people to grow up. You don’t agree? That’s fine.

TantrumToddler · 21/09/2019 16:10

My mum takes a lot of comfort from this. I don't believe it myself, but they do turn up in odd places!

NearlyGranny · 21/09/2019 16:12

If it brings you comfort, what's the harm? Unless you'd be frightened by finding a black feather, of course.

Any feather that turns up mysteriously inside a car has probably worked its way through an air vent.

I found one on the church office floor recently and smiled, but it was just inside the door and we do get a lot of seagulls on the roof...

JudgeRindersMinder · 21/09/2019 16:12

@Holymolly I think the robin thing is supposed to represent the soul of a loved one who has passed

Nothing wrong with taking comfort from a white feather, I certainly have

OneToughMudderFudder · 21/09/2019 16:17

Mistake to post on AIBU but no, you're not being UR to find comfort from something that does not affect anyone else.

Saying that our house has woodland directly at the side of it and my front and back gardens currently have loads of white feathers all over the place from all the bastard birds who also shit all and drop berries which stain the patios. Finding the odd feather inside is not unusual.

NearlyGranny · 21/09/2019 16:19

And if you see masses of feathers strewn about, there's probably been a sparrowhawk on the hunt.

longearedbat · 21/09/2019 16:30

I am not a bit woo, but....My very best friend died a few years ago. She was in the habit of finding 5p pieces. "Oh look, another one!" She'd say, as she would bend down and collect it off the pavement. I was staying with her adult daughter recently, and we visited some NT gardens. Everywhere we stopped, a robin was hopping about. "That's mum" said my friends d (who is pretty woo). "Yeah, right" I thought. Then she said, "You know mum was always finding 5p pieces? Well, I am always finding them now, and in very strange places, like in the garden or house, just sitting on the floor. It's very strange." Well, before we had finished our visit, we had found a 5p on the path. Nothing too strange in that I suppose. A busy place and they are easily dropped. However, on the way home I stopped at some motorway services. It was very wet, so I parked away from other cars to avoid a load of puddles. I opened the car door, and sitting on the tarmac was a 5p piece. A very spooky coincidence, and, even not being a woo person, I did ask my dead friend (quietly) if she was taking the piss!

longearedbat · 21/09/2019 16:33

Sorry, just realised that little ramble is nothing to do with feathers! There are loads over our lawn as the woodpigeons (along with other birds) who sit in the trees are moulting, and they frequently blow into the house. But if it makes you happy, that's lovely.

Livebythecoast · 21/09/2019 16:34

White feathers appear when a loved one is near - or something like that.
If it brings you comfort then that's all that matters.
I think when we're going through hard times and something like this helps then It can only be a good thing Flowers

BertrandRussell · 21/09/2019 16:35

When I see a Wagtail I think of my mum because she lived them. It’s lovely because it reminds me of her. Not a message or anything though.

OctoberLovers · 21/09/2019 16:38

People can be so bloody mean

OP I hope you feel better soon
