To find Greta Thunberg patronising and unrealistic?

OP posts:
Choice4567 · 21/09/2019 15:42

YABVVU

Bawdrip · 21/09/2019 15:49

YABVU. You might not like her message but it's scientific fact.

RedSheep73 · 21/09/2019 15:52

Yabu. You just don't like what she's got to say.

JacquesHammer · 21/09/2019 15:54

YABVU.

She’s absolutely right.

Tellmetruth4 · 21/09/2019 16:20

She is right.

NearlyGranny · 21/09/2019 16:27

People will find any reason to discredit the messenger when they don't want to hear the message. It has ever been thus!

The sight and sound of prosperous old men in suits mocking or belittling a teenage girl is deeply unedifying. Likewise I have little time for those who claim the child is a mouthpiece or manipulated puppet of her parents.

If we don't and won't listen to her, nor to the voices of scientists, to whom will we listen?

Di62 · 21/09/2019 17:05

Yes, you are!

wilton · 21/09/2019 17:11

Yes YABU.
what are your views on David Attenborough?

bornonasunday · 21/09/2019 17:31

If Greta is right, then do you ever feel that our awareness of climate change etc, is totally overshadowed and rendered pointless by China’s coal consumption (huge!) and the USAs love of gas-guzzling vehicles and lifestyle in general?

OP posts:
OzzyFinch · 21/09/2019 18:17

So your attitude is fuck it, it's pointless? Wow. Do you have kids?

LaurieFairyCake · 21/09/2019 18:20

You couldn't be more in the wrong - plus sexist and ageist ...

AIBU
Vulpine · 21/09/2019 18:23

Who would you find more palatable? George clooney? Oprah winfrey? Mary berry?

PuffHuffle5 · 21/09/2019 18:24

I’m still making my mind up about her. There is something about the way she’s been put on a pedestal and idolised that I’m not quite comfortable with, but I can’t really explain why...

bornonasunday · 21/09/2019 19:08

Thank you Puffle, You have put into words what I was trying to get across!! I put the question out there as I couldn’t quite make up my mind about her either.... but Wow!! It seems to be the worst thing ever said!!!
I was trying to draw on my thoughts and beliefs at that age but now I’m ageist, sexist?? and just about anything else you can think of as an insult!!😮
What the bloody hell has George Clooney et all got to do with it??
It was a question folks, that’s all!!!
Good job nobody drives cars, buys out of season fruit and veg flown in from God knows where, has wood burners, etc.. but it’s ok believing anything they are told because a passionate 16 year old says it’s true.
If she was “he” and in their 20s, I would still ask the question.
I thought Adam Ant was a God at that age and wouldn’t hear a word against him.. I was also deeply deeply in love with an unsuitable boy... didn’t make me wise or right... far from it...but you couldn’t tell me otherwise!!
Was asking what everyone else thought - not putting myself in the stocks!

😂 Nice try to save the face.

You called her patronising. You made your mind up about her.

Trooperslaneagain · 21/09/2019 19:37

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVUUUUUUU

bornonasunday · 21/09/2019 19:49

Jeez, there’s some unpleasant people on here!!
I do find her patronising - but I’m still asking if anyone else does!!
Why so personal? I’m surprised this site survives, given the way posters are pounced upon!!
I don’t need to ‘save face’ I asked a question, gave my personal experiences at that age - and I’m still attacked!! Happy Saturday guys🙄

😂 Absolutely agree. Most of us realised the moment they read your OP

bornonasunday · 21/09/2019 19:58

Troopers
Just one YABVU would have got your message across, thanks, don’t need it yelled in my face. I’m not starting a war.. just asked a question.
No one has picked up on the imported fruit and veg, wood burners etc part of my post...? So much stuff is imported from all over the world by air, yet no-one has commented on this - I must be an easy target merely for daring to mention Greta🤔

OP posts:
bornonasunday · 21/09/2019 20:01

Lazy Arse...
It’s been a blast chatting but you’re far too superior/ unpleasant for me... The wrong person is in the stocks here.
I suppose you’ve spent the day glued to the road pissing everybody else off?
I’m done with this, it’s way too personal and it’s gone way too far. Can see who gets MN it’s bad reputation
Well Done

SugarNyx · 21/09/2019 20:08

I know plenty of dumb, ignorant old people. Yabvu and ignorant youself tbh

IAmALazyArse · 21/09/2019 20:19

Oh come on. Read your OPs again and go have a think about who is the one sounding unpleasant.

Good job nobody drives cars, buys out of season fruit and veg flown in from God knows where, has wood burners, etc.. but it’s ok believing anything they are told because a passionate 16 year old says it’s true.
No one believes climate change because Great said it. Everyone with half a brain knows it's true because scientists said it. She is not a scientist, she inspires people to listen to the scientists and act. Passion can be contagious as we can see.

Young people can achieve amazing things. Last time high number of young students took to streets in country of my birth communism fell. Why not think that maybe a worldwide protests can't move governments to some kind of action?

She inspired climate protests in 185 countries. Millions of people. If that's not an achievement, I don't know what is. So take your "I can't bear to be lectured by a 16 year old" attitude somewhere else.

And no. I don't glue myself to roads. I don't agree with ER actions. I rather tend to my super bee friendly garden and wonder what will my caterpillars in there grow up into. Try gardening. It calms your soul.

DameFanny · 21/09/2019 20:29

YABU. VVU.

randomusername · 21/09/2019 21:19

YABU. She is a very powerful speaker, she bought a lot of awareness to the climate crisis through her school strike. She inspired a large amount of people to do something rather than waiting for someone else to fix it or politicians to spontaneously decide the survival of our species is important. She made people realise even if you are not in charge, you can do something. I don't think anyone claims that something must be true because she says it, but she speaks the truth confirmed by scientists. She is a courageous and influential teenager. I can understand the 'I'm older and wiser' mentality and finding it hard to listen to someone so young, but it is important to listen. Scientists much older than her will of said the same.

doublebarrellednurse · 21/09/2019 21:32

YABU and ridiculous.

She's a very good public speaker that's why she's being listened too. That and she's speaking the absolute truth.

I'm more worried about the people around her. She's autistic and young and people can take advantage of that. I suspect they will and are exploiting her popularity and possibly her winnings. I hope her parents are keeping a close eye.
