I am offended. (ok rabbit, yes, petty, self indulgent etc)

Well not really that offended. A little taken aback. Too tired for actual offense.

So, Dp has a friend he hasn't seen for a couple of years come to stay. They were flat mates before i met dp, they have lots and lots of hilarious anecdotes that are mostly about special brew, falling asleep in skips, Ralph Maggio, stuff like that.

Lovely dinner tonight - but children a little excited. dd1 did talk about bogeys, was was a bit loud, and bossy. DD2 did prance through wearing my bra, while dd1 lay on the floor giggling hysterically, and then farted.

Apart from that it was going well, until he looked at me and said 'don't worry, i'm a teacher, i'm used to appalling children with parents who can't control them'.

I laughed. He didn't, he was really serious. They're only 2 and 5, they're just a bit noisy and giggly. And they think 'poo on my head' is a really really funny joke.

Are people going to come and tell me to get a grip and some perspective now then?

I'm struggling to believe it, Boco.

Pan · 10/08/2007 22:31

Space? Give him the North Atlantic.

well he was plain rude then.

AlistairSim · 10/08/2007 22:33

I'm sure you could come up with some equally 'honest' remarks about Ralph Maggio.

stleger · 10/08/2007 22:33

Was it before or after cheesecake? If before, I'd have denied him cheesecake.

snowleopard · 10/08/2007 22:33

Oooh Boco, homemade cheesecake! All that faff, just for a rude git! I really would be fuming. No wonder he's single.

WendyWeber · 10/08/2007 22:33

cod, what he said was indefensible. Honestly. If he feels like that about a friend's small children he shouldn't visit the family. Very ungracious esp in light of Boco's efforts.

He is a tosser and he is WRONGWRONGWRONG (and so are you)

NormaStanleyFletcher · 10/08/2007 22:33

rabbit - i got what you were saying on that other thread

hunkermunker · 10/08/2007 22:33

He's an adult though, Cod - think calling Boco's children "shitty" is harsh, tbh.

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 22:34

Maybe he's just jealous because he never gets laid.

Boco · 10/08/2007 22:34

They weren't terrible! a TWO year old climbing on someone isn't terrible - she's two, she's friendly - it's a compliment if a two year old wants to sit on your knee. They were just small children. yes, yes, tedious at times, but not that bad.

I'm rising above - i've risen.

Quite, Bibis. Couldn't agree more

snowleopard · 10/08/2007 22:35

Don't agree cod. You visit someone with kids, they are hostly to you, you make an effort with their kids or at the very least don't slag them and their parents off over the cheesecake that has been lovingly prepared for you!

Lizzzombie · 10/08/2007 22:35

I think your kids sound hilarious! That is exactly how I would behave at a dinner party and I am in my 30's.

elasticsortinghandstand · 10/08/2007 22:36

i still think he was just Showing Off how Brill he is at his job

unknownrebelbang · 10/08/2007 22:38

Your girls sound delightful Boco. Excited no doubt with daddy's friend visiting.

DP's friend is downright rude.

We used to visit DH's cousin and their two little boys pre-kids occasionally and spent the weekend. Yep they could be annoying and a bit ott sometimes, but I would never have dreamt of saying anything so blardy rude to DH's cousin.

WendyWeber · 10/08/2007 22:38

(I love Boco's kids - esp since I saw the pics of them watching Pippin suffering some disaster when her DD1 caringly put her hands over DD2's eyes so she wouldn't see the worst - lovely girls)

Tigana · 10/08/2007 22:39

you're sure he didn't mean "I am used to appalling children whose parents can't can't control them THEREFORE your little gang are no probelm at all" and he just didn't get the tone right?
Especially if his humour is of the sharp kind...

stleger · 10/08/2007 22:40

(Laxative in his bedtime horlicks perhaps)

wannaBe · 10/08/2007 22:42

I haven't read whole thread but...

Did he say "your kids are appalling and you clearly can't control them"? from the way I read it, he said "I'm a teacher, I'm used to appalling children (the appalling children being the ones he teaches) with parents that can't control them (parents of children he teaches).".

tbh it sounds to me as if you have taken this comment out of context.

although children farting at dinner table and talking about bogeys is fairly disgusting I'm sorry to say.

moondog · 10/08/2007 22:45

Even if yuor kids being ott,he was only allowed to think it,not say it.
Cardinal rule.

I had a (childless) friend around for dinner once when dd was about 2.Being alone, know that entertaining him, doing dinner and seeing to dd would be too much so got a babysitter in to mind her upstairs as we ate, then stay when we went out and got shitfaced.

He said to me apprvingly. 'God,this is such a great idea.X (mutual friend) lets his kids run riot every time I go for dinner and it is sooo annoying.'

Fast forward a few years and he and his gf now have a baby, late in life.Had a gang around for dinner last weekend.Guess whose kids said a quick hello in pyjamasa and went straight to bed and guess whose baby screamed and squealed and generally ruined whole show?

How I laughed..and will laugh more once kid starts walking.
