Washing etiquette

My mum always said it was 'common' to peg washing out in the evening and leaving it overnight when you know it's going to be sunny. I leave for work at 6.30am so for me it's a no brainer to peg out the night before and hope that BBC weather is accurate. Anyone else peg out at night???

But spiders will rub their willies on it Wink

Mummyshark2019 · 20/09/2019 20:20

@Lvsel you have me in stitches 😂🤣

MissPepper8 · 20/09/2019 20:21

Summer I shower evening and morning. In winter I shower night before and only wash my lady garden and butt in the morning and use spray

What the... Did you post on the wrong thread? 😂

joystir59 · 20/09/2019 20:22

Just hung a load out, loving that it will be covered in spiders willie-rubbings by morning.

ChoccieEClaire · 20/09/2019 20:25

I do that all the time!

donquixotedelamancha · 20/09/2019 20:28

If it fits your timetable & you don't mind it being darked on by spider willies, do it. Life's too short!

What the fuck has happened to MN lately?

Next you'll all be going on about how wonderful your MiL is and how it's not a big deal if a someone blocks your drive for a few minutes.

Thecapturefan · 20/09/2019 20:28

I wouldn’t hang washing out to dry over night. I stuck a couple of things I really want dry out an hour or so ago just to give them a start but I’ll bring them back in. I don’t care about spider willies but I do care about cobwebs on my washing eww. The amount of them on my pegs in the morning is gross (yes I should take them off the line but ain’t nobody got time fo that).

I wouldn’t say it’s common but to me it’s certainly not ‘the done thing’ to hang washing out overnight.

lololove · 20/09/2019 20:36

My mum refuses to leave washing out after approx 6pm - not because it's common just she refuses to let it be darked on and stay out. She also complains about next door because she thinks she has it too close to our house (which tbf isn't as bad as it sounds because it does rub up against the brick wall boundary and flaps over our side making the dog go crazy so I do agree wth her about that)

CTRL · 20/09/2019 20:39

@Lvsel

What !?! 🤣

dementedma · 20/09/2019 20:39

Put it out whenever you want, bring it in whenever you want. Sorted.

woodhill · 20/09/2019 20:41

It gets damp at night so I wouldn't do it

PivotPivotPivottt · 20/09/2019 20:42

I don't usually leave it out overnight but the last two nights it has still been damp so I left it out last night and then brought it in at lunchtime and hung another out. It's also still damp so have left that out and I have to admit I am worried about what the neighbours might think. And I live in a common area Grin

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 20/09/2019 20:44

I can feel my Grandma's disapproval from beyond the grave if I even dare to think of it.

Nicolastuffedone · 20/09/2019 20:51

I never hang out washing overnight. I always hung it out before I went to work in the morning, it’s just not something my mum ever did, she always brought her washing in during the day....I can’t stand my washing to be rained on either!

JennyBlueWren · 20/09/2019 20:55

My parents arrived (latish) on the Isle of Lewis on a Saturday. There was a note in the self-catering cottage about Sunday expectations whch included not hanging washing out. There was also a washing machine full of laundry (sheets and towels). So my parents hung them on all the chairs while they went out for a walk (where no one would see them enjoying themselves!).

About ten years ago when we had a bad winter I remember seeing a washing line with the same clothes left on it for a week! Thought that was a bit extreme hoping for it to get warmer.

GiantKitten · 20/09/2019 21:01

The only reason I can see, ever, for not hanging out at night is a dodgy weather forecast. It's really really annoying when you wake up to rain!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/09/2019 21:02

I never leave washing out overnight. I also don’t peg out underwear. It’s what my mum did!

SabineUndine · 20/09/2019 21:11

I leave my washing out for days at a time!

Lvsel · 20/09/2019 21:16

Lol I got the thread wrong again Shock

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 20/09/2019 21:32

‘Tis the season of huge fucker spiders, size of dinner plates. They hang from their webs malevolently guarding my washing from marauders and tell me when it’s ready to come in. (I’m a bit frightened of them as they bounce up and down when I go too near them). They have massive willies too and jizz on my washing sometimes.

DrFoxtrot · 20/09/2019 21:33

I never leave mine out overnight as it will be covered in tiny spiders and bits of web by the morning. I can't be arsed picking it all off.

PuffHuffle5 · 20/09/2019 21:35

I think this is the sort of thing people used to worry about back in the day - this day and age no one gives a shit about when you put your washing out, people are busy watching cat videos on their phones they don’t peek into neighbours gardens anymore.

PookieDo · 20/09/2019 21:35

I don’t bother as it just seems to take longer to dry. It’s cold out now, if I hung it out it would stay cold longer. If I hang it indoors then finish it off tomorrow, it will probably dry quicker

ThighThighOfthigh · 20/09/2019 21:40

I'm just frantic about the poo particles.

Jayaywhynot · 20/09/2019 21:42

Yep, spiders will rub their willies on your washing - Fact
