to be annoyed by this car outside my house?

I know I am legally BU as they're doing nothing wrong but I'm still irritated!

I live on a cul-de-sac (back to back terrace) the only people who park here are the residents. The norm/unspoken rule is that residents park right outside their houses and visitors/temp parkers usually have the decency to park on the other side of the street (no houses on that side, just a green).

The houses on the other side of the terrace have on street parking outside their houses too.

Someone parked right outside my house on Saturday and hasn't fecking moved since!! (Def hasn't moved as between me and my overly invested neighbour someone has been here during that entire time!).

I had a dream last night about letting the air out of their tyres 😂.

I know IABU but AIBU though???

Of course YANBU to be pissed OFF (not pissed of!) Hmm

Apolloanddaphne · 19/09/2019 11:59

Surely it is just someone visiting one of your neighbours? We parked on the street near my DDs house from Friday to Monday last week and didn't move the car the whole time. No idea why that would seem weird.

negomi90 · 19/09/2019 11:59

I park on residential streets where I live it's on street parking only. I park where there is space (it's never outside my house). I go through phases of not commuting. I walk to my local shops. This means sometimes I can go for a month without moving my car.
Please tell me what I should do to be unreasonable by mumsnet rules.

andyoldlabour · 19/09/2019 12:01

I would be more concerned if the car was badly parked - leaving half or two thirds car space to the next car. We live in a cul-de-sac and I often park 50 to 100 metres away. It is a public road, and although annoying, it isn't possible to park outside your house every time.

kjhkj · 19/09/2019 12:03

I have a very long driveway and last night for the millionth time someone parked on it to make a phone call. DS2 was at the bottom with the puppy and so I wandered down and looked in and a woman was on the phone and made an "on the phone" gesture with her hand. I glared and then hung around two feet from her car. She got the hint I think and drove off a couple of minutes later. I think I'm going to do it every day and also invest in a "no parking you CF" sign!

AnotherNightWatering · 19/09/2019 12:07

This reminds me of when I was a child. We had a drive, so parked our car their. Our neighbour had a Jaguar that he parked in his drive. One day, he stopped my mum, and ashed her if she minded if they park outside our house. My mum was puzzled, but said that was fine, as it was a public highway and she liked the idea of the posh car outside our house . A few days later, his teenage son came home with an old rust bucket, and parked that outside our house instead of his, and began tinkering with it!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 19/09/2019 12:08

We've had an old car outside our house for about five months now. It's taxed and insured so nothing can be done about it - it's clearly been bought for one the old car derby things, and then left. It hasn't been touched since.

It is irritating. I wouldn't put a note on it incase it comes back to you somehow and they try to claim you caused damage, tempting as it is!

stucknoue · 19/09/2019 12:08

There is a limit to how long a car can be left on a residential street without moving, it varies by area. You can report it as possibly abandoned, they will check the number plate and if still there a week later or whatever put a warning sticker that it's being treated as abandoned, then it will be towed. We've done it several times at work, about 2 weeks in total it was

DopeyDazy · 19/09/2019 12:10

i read on a caravan forum that cooked soft pasta thrown on caravan dries onto roof and birds peck at it making loads of noise trying to unstick it,response to late night noise from neighbouring van. Might work well on this instead of birdseed

Apolloanddaphne · 19/09/2019 12:12

My DDs car can sit for weeks in her street without moving. It has lovely cobwebs on it now. It's not abandoned, she just doesn't use it much. It's a company car but she doesn't need to travel often.

Eslteacher06 · 19/09/2019 12:12

We once had a motorbike parked outside our house for a MONTH. Pissed me right off! Turned out it was stolen as we came back from a night out and some dodgy guy was wheeling it away at 3am! Maybe just report it to police if it's still there after a week.

FrauHaribo · 19/09/2019 12:13

Ignore the morally superior individuals who think it's an OUTRAGE to do this. Just ignore them and let them polish their pearls...

so next time I go to the dentist or to visit a friend and park in front of somebody's house I can expect for my car to be vandalised and it's right?

People like you are the reason why more and more people spend a fortune on dash cams.

If you want the right to a view, you buy it. Otherwise a car parked on the road does not qualify as an inconvenience, what a ridiculous and entitled attitude some people have.

Katex888 · 19/09/2019 12:13

You women do need to seriously get a grip

Christ on a bike - don't you have any actual work to do?

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 19/09/2019 12:15

I expect they were just availing themselves of their right to use the public highway....

As someone up thread said.... If you want to park outside your house.... You need to have a house with parking space /drive...

I have a mobility disability... I live in a busy road.... There are no car parking spaces /drive... I often have to circle to wait for a space within 200 metres of my flat....

You pays your money and takes your choice....!

LostStars39 · 19/09/2019 12:16

Totally agree with @TheMarschallin I’m currently parked about 3 streets away from my house and to even get a space on my road is a miracle! Just let it go and think it could be a million times worse!

(Sorry I’m just jealous! Grin )

Blaanotnow · 19/09/2019 12:17

Leave a polite note stating the unspoken rule on the windscreen. Then the person would hopefully abide by it next time they return.

Dontbsicily · 19/09/2019 12:18

Absolutely hilarious some of the folk saying 'Get a life' and 'Is this how you spend your time' etc

You're choosing to spend your time reading a thread about someone who is unhappy with a car being parked out front of their house. Then judging the people who are posting on it... Grin

Rubicon80 · 19/09/2019 12:19

This is really pathetic, and the people who can't 'carry heavy shopping' a few extra feet (who presumably don't have a disability) and those who are talking about trying to cause damage via birdseed ffs, all of you should get a grip.

familycourtq · 19/09/2019 12:19

This is utter bollocks by the way.

MadisonAvenue · 19/09/2019 12:22

We live right on the corner of a cul de sac, we have a townhouse which is right on the footpath so it's blocking the view of anyone driving around the corner.
We had a dickhead taxi driver parking right outside our house for hours at a time over a week or so and his car was actually overhanging the corner, anyone driving off the cul de sac had to do so by driving on the wrong side of the road without being able to see if anything was coming in the opposite direction.
The taxi driver was getting out of his vehicle, walking down the road and around the next corner. I phoned his company and it never happened again.

Being on a corner, our drive is at the rear of the house and a couple of weeks ago I went out to walk the dog and there was a Domino's pizza delivery car parked on it. The driver was sitting in it so I tapped on the window and he looked surprised and said "Oh, did you want to get out?" (our son's car was blocked in by him). I said no, but I wanted him to move, and that another car would need to be parked on there imminently. He looked quite surprised that I objected to him whiling away a bit of time on our private driveway.

SBD1 · 19/09/2019 12:24

What gets my goat is that all the houses on my street have driveways that can fit multiple cars except the house next to me. Each driveway its alternated so they're not directly opposite. Cars inside on parking opposite my drive making it nigh on impossible to get out of my drive because the street isn't wide. HOWEVER If they were to park opposite my next door neighbour, well they don't have a drive so it wouldn't inconvenience anyone.

Drives me CRACKERS. Why park opposite my drive? I'd rather you bloody used my drive than park opposite

SBD1 · 19/09/2019 12:24

inside = insist
