If Cinderella is the pantomime..

then Cinderella should be included in the promo photo somehow? After all it is the title role.

Link

I realise that the other characters were probably cast before Cinderella and as such the photo taken prior to the casting of the character. But surely they could have taken a photo of Cinderella separately and added it to the website at least, even if it wasn't feasable to reprint the paper posters/flyers.

I honestly couldn't get worked up about this, but looking at the link the woman playing Cinderella is making her debut. Ie, no-one will have a clue who she is, and they want to push the 'celebrities' involved.

IamMadameX · 19/09/2019 09:49

Cinderella isn't "famous" so she's not going to sell tickets so of course they going to use celeb pics.

A lot off people go to pantomime who ever it is. But some like me only go if I like the celeb!

Librocubicularist · 19/09/2019 09:52

I understand that they're promoting the celebrities but I think there should still be a photo of what should be the main character regardless of the level of fame of the actress.

I really don’t think it matters

Librocubicularist · 19/09/2019 09:57

The celebs tend to put me off so I think sometimes it's better to be less famous.

Why on earth have you given this head space?

ThePallidBustOfPallas · 19/09/2019 10:56

You do not have sufficient life left to give a shite about this.

LoseLooseLucy · 19/09/2019 11:09

I don't like responding in an unkind manner, but seriously, what?

I can't see how you've even thought twice about this, let alone to start a thread about it. Unless you are playing Cinderella.. 🤔

AussieBeauty · 19/09/2019 11:15

That is a bit strange. Also since when did Sooty do pantomines?

Floralnomad · 19/09/2019 11:15

YAB utterly ridiculous , the theatre want to sell tickets and it’s ‘celebs’ that will attract people to this panto rather than another local one . If the person playing Cinderella isn’t a known actress her actual performance will not be putting many bums on seats . Besides which Cinderella isn’t actually the ‘star’ of most Cinderella pantos it’s the ugly sisters and Buttons .

TheMustressMhor · 19/09/2019 11:17

So who is playing Cinderella?

You?

Your DD?

Unless you or they are famous it will not put bums on seats, OP.

IsadoraQuagmire · 19/09/2019 11:18

Actually, most people I know would be interested in seeing the actress playing Cinderella, we all know her from Les Mis.

Librocubicularist · 19/09/2019 12:55

Okay IABU then. Granted, this isn't the most pressing problem in my life, but I do tend engage my brain when looking at things Shock. At least my post has given a few of you the opportunity to make some sarky comments for such a trivial matter. Grin

Bows out from thread.

I agree with you. And look how many men are listed in the cast in the write up before they get to the title character.

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 19/09/2019 16:00

My friend was Cinders in Panto last year. She isn't famous at all (although she's currently voicing a big ad campaign) but she was well billed & featured on posters. I don't think it was awfully sleb-laden though.

dollydaydream114 · 19/09/2019 17:51

I used to work in theatre/entertainment PR. The key thing in selling tickets for this particular type of panto is the famous names so yes, they will focus on the celebs, not the roles, in the promo material. Biggest name gets biggest billing and biggest photo presence. Nobody cares about Cinders here because Cinders, as a non-famous actor, isn’t going to sell the tickets. It’s not an industry that runs on politeness.

On a more practical note, the other cast members have almost certainly appeared in panto before, probably for the same production company and in the same or similar roles, so they will have existing pics of them to use. Cinders probably hasn’t done a photoshoot yet, or had a costume fitting or anything like that.

ScreamingValenta · 19/09/2019 17:56

The best panto I ever saw was a very local one, without celebrities. I agree some celebrities are great at panto, but too often the show turns into nothing more than a vehicle for the most famous person of the cast and it loses all breadth of humour.

dollydaydream114 · 19/09/2019 18:10

@Librocubicularist @ScreamingValenta

I much prefer the less celeb-laden ones as well, but that Cinderella is a Qdos production and Qdos are very, very much about celebs rather than tradition (or talent, frankly) and they have a specific target audience in mind which is probably not us. They are keen to target people who have no interest in theatre and don’t go to any other shows, and for whom famous faces are a big draw.

They sell huge numbers of tickets but I’ve sat through many of their shows in my time and they are not for me. Give me a proper traditional panto with a girl playing the principal boy, a proper drag queen dame and a genuinely terrifying villain any day Grin
