AIBU to be a little peed off with nursery (pic attached)

Had to sign an accident form tonight as my 1yo took a scratch to the face which drew blood at the top of his ear, where one of the nursery staff accidentally caught him with her nail. Her nails are really long, false and pointy. AIBU to think these are inappropriate in this job!?

Yep, I would be pissed off by that, I'm a nurse and if I had false nails that marked a patient I'd be in trouble.

I’m usually really easy going about marks and minor accidents at nursery but I would not be happy about this.

I’d be asking that their policy regarding appropriate work wear was altered. Hope your little one is ok.

YANBU I presumed all nurseries would have a blanket rule for no false nails and no long nails, more for infection control than anything else but also to prevent accidents like this from happening. That's certainly the case in every care setting I've worked in anyway (adult care sector). I'd be having words with the manager if I were you.

I agree they’re inappropriate for the job. Unfortunately they’re the fashion and I see lots of staff in similar roles with these long pointed nails. Not appropriate for working with little ones.

I'm surprised she's allowed to have long nails in her line on work. My friend works in a childcare setting and can't have long nails when working with the children, for both safety and hygiene reasons.

Nobody should have stiletto or coffin nails working with children. Way too risky!

No that is unacceptable- I’d be really cross. Surely it’s obvious that those sorts of nails just aren’t practical when dealing with little ones.

Absolutely disgraceful. Cant believe they can get away with that. Their new policy should be no long nails at all. Your Poor baby bet he was horrified and sore!! Massive complaint I think

A scratch from a child is unavoidable. A scratch from an adult from some cosmetic enhancements that are unhygienic and banned in most similar settings is not acceptable

Absolutely unacceptable; most nurseries have a uniform/ work wear policy about nails being kept short / filed for exactly this reason. Speak to the manager so this doesn’t happen again.

My DS had similar after getting his hair cut. I don’t know how the barber even managed to pick up a pair of scissors with the length of her nails.

I’m generally very chilled and expect kids to pick up little marks and bumps but no way would I be happy with this .

I’m amazed that nursery workers who deal with babies are allowed long acrylic nails; I would have assumed short, rounded nails would be obligatory in that line of work.
