AIBU? Is this too early?

Boots are laying out the shelves for Chrimbo.

I know. I know they do this at this time in September, but FUCK IT!

IT'S TOO FUCKING EARLY FOR THIS SHITE!!

Zoella has been joined by Fearne Cotton and Gabriella Fletcher for twee, inspirational bollocks, Disney is heavily represented, entire aisles are pink and rose gold copper, the gadgets are in black packaging, the food is complete junk and the prices are bloated

It wouldn't matter to me if it wasn't all so tacky and hideous.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/09/2019 18:11

You obviously don’t work in advertising/catering/events/media/retail 😄 Christmas started last month didn’t it?

RavenLG · 18/09/2019 18:11

No one needs this utter plastic shite for any Christmas (let alone one post-brexit)! I hate the commercialism crap that is shoved down our throat every bloody year!

forkfun · 18/09/2019 18:13

It's weird. No one needs any if this crap. It's a major part why the planet is as fucked as it is. All you can do is not take part and let people know that you don't want gifts.

LavaLamp5566 · 18/09/2019 18:22

In my hometown, there's a Christmas shop open ALL YEAR ROUND. It's pathetic. I don't even go food shopping until the 23rd December. Christmas is just one big commercial holiday in this day and age

SmudgeButt · 18/09/2019 18:24

On the plus side lidl has stotten bites in stock. DH is being complete unreasonable by not letting me buy any.

Bluewavescrashing · 18/09/2019 18:26

Plastic tat destined for landfill. Buying for the sake of buying. Ugh.

FrauHaribo · 18/09/2019 18:32

In my hometown, there's a Christmas shop open ALL YEAR ROUND.

are you in Edinburgh? Grin

LuckyLuckyWoman · 18/09/2019 18:35

Saw Christmas stuff in Matalan, New Look and Boots today. I need my holiday before I can think about Christmas

GracefulHare · 18/09/2019 18:56

I can't believe the Peaky Blinders stuff! I really like Giovanna Fletcher but her range is literally the same old tat that Zoella has had out for the past few years. I know shops have to prepare but it just seems a bit more dismal this year, like you're buying for the sake of it. Also, don't get me started on the amount of plastic packaging used. I'm going to really try to be more original this year.

TulipCat · 18/09/2019 19:22

@Londonmummy66 You know why Fortnum's sell Christmas stuff over the summer, right? It's because a very large proportion of their customers are not from the UK, and summer is peak tourist season in London. It's the only chance they have in the year to sell to those customers in person. It's not about "class", it's about business sense and customer service.

Gingernaut · 18/09/2019 19:59

While I 'get' certain stores having Christmas departments, it's the sheer, in-your-facedness of about a third of the shop floor stuffed with tat.

How many make-up brushes, eyeshadow palettes, lip glosses and bath fizzers (all wrapped in card and plastic) are necessary.

They're selling beauty favourite boxes - your favourite mascaras, lipglosses etc.

Just that - a golden box of different brands of mascaras.

I find it more weird you’ve actually took photos to post on here and have a moan Confused

Londonmummy66 · 18/09/2019 20:03

@tulipcat - well durrr... I don't think you realised that this was a lighthearted thread.

MisunderstoodMaleficent · 18/09/2019 20:05

YANBU - I love Christmas, really, really love it but we haven’t even had Halloween yet!

Sunhill4 · 18/09/2019 20:09

BanKittenHeels - nobody is forcing you to buy any of it, but others may like the choice!

sweepysue · 18/09/2019 20:11

In response to your pic & question of 'who would have sone of this shite for half price'

..... well I for one would have that huge tub of jelly babies for £4.25 Hmm

Lol. And yes it is all shite ( apart from the jelly babies) 👍🏻

pottedshrimps · 18/09/2019 20:11

Sainsburys and Tesco have xmas shite out too. Haven't even had Halloween yet.

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 18/09/2019 20:18

FFS Gingernaut! Why did you start an AIBU on THAT subject? You’ll attract them from the Christmas thread and we prefer to keep them gently corralled over their. Now they’ll be digging themselves out of the Christmas icing powder with their bloody candy canes!

Hahaha88 · 18/09/2019 20:28

Yes yabu.
Some people have to watch the pennies so like to buy early to spread the spend out.
Some people just like buying early.
If you don't want to buy now, great, don't.

The only thing I agree with is there's too much buying of shite for the sake of being able to gift something. Give me a fiver rather than some cheap plastic crap I don't need anyday that costs you a fiver and me the effort of charity shopping it

Hahaha88 · 18/09/2019 20:28

I also really want a mince pie now. Only 98 days til Xmas, I think it's ok to get munching on them

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 18/09/2019 20:31

SEE! SEE! I warned you! They’re talking about mince pies now! See what you’ve gone and done!

I like getting prepared early. It's less stressful & spreads the cost!

Instead of buying early you could save the money to spend later

Even better dont buy the crap and save even more

forkfun · 18/09/2019 20:54

I genuinely don't understand spreading the cost. Surely if you have £20 in September spare for Christmas stuff, you could just save it and spend it in December?

Bluewavescrashing · 18/09/2019 21:17

I buy through the year to spread the cost and the faff of shopping. My DCs both have winter birthdays as well as my nephews, dad and MIL.

However I don't need Christmas themed stuff in the shops in order to buy things now. I just choose things people would like, and buy them. There's no need for wrapping paper, cards, decorations and food for Christmas to be in the shops now. It spoils it a bit as most people feel bored of it by the time mid December is finally here. Christmas themed gift sets and tat is a waste of time, money and resources.
