malificent7 · 18/09/2019 04:07

I know we should all be shunning fast fashion but Primark do cheap jeans and i wont chuck them out after 1 wear i promise!
So i tried on a pair of jeans which fit (admittedly hadvto go a size up.) Bought them then bought another pair in EXACTLY the same style and size but in a different colour ( black) . Didn't have time to try them on but assumed they would be exactly the same cut...they didnt even do up! Plus im a size 12 and jeans were a 14 so should have fit. Grrr...but at 13 pounds i was very pleased with pair that did fit.

When you buy clothes which are made by child labour, you can’t complain they didn’t size them correctly. Maybe they were too tied, hungry or thirsty to do a better job

RebootYourEngine · 18/09/2019 04:18

I buy most of my jeans from Primark and have never had this problem. Had it at Next though. I would assume that someone in the factory has mis-labled them.

malificent7 · 18/09/2019 04:20

Is it child labour nowadays? I thought they had upped their game ethically? The jeans were made from "green" cotton if that helps. Not that cotton is green tbh.

Alicewond Grin you just had to

malificent7 · 18/09/2019 04:21

But yeah...i am concerned about ethics so may go charity shopping instead.

Whilst Primark isn't ideal, let's bear in mind that not everybody can afford ethics. Charity shops are a great alternative but you cannot rely on them to have the exact size and style of item you need. Great places on the offchance but no guarantees.

We can say 'I only buy organic denim, handwoven by an Eritrean women's co-operative' all we like but the fact remains, not everyone has £70 to fork out on jeans. If your kecks have split, you've only got £15 and the CS is full of clothes that won't fit then you have very few options.

Tippety · 18/09/2019 05:04

Not saying it's right, but the labour issue isn't exclusive to Primark, it's a much bigger issue. We rightly have labour laws here, but dont seem arsed about them in the supply chain.

I agree that the sizes are all over the place, I think their turnaround is too quick to put much effort into some of their stuff. I used to pop in most weeks and a lot of it would have completely changed! Their jeans are good for the price though, and have lasted longer than my more expensive ones.

PrincessPain · 18/09/2019 06:15

I've had the same.
I got a lovely pair which fit, they were stretchy, comfy, stylish, cheap.
Bought a second pair, fucking 6 sizes too small (except they were the same size according to the labels).

Yoyoyo912 · 18/09/2019 06:24

Same here.
Bought 3 pairs in a 12.
1 was fine
1 was baggy around the waist
1 was way to tight

malificent7 · 18/09/2019 07:48

It drives me potty. I have some stuff from there that has lasted years though.

I have two different pairs of jeans from there and one is a size 18 and one is a size 12 and they both fit perfectly Hmm

GetOffTheTableMabel · 18/09/2019 07:54

I’ve had this exact issue with M&S jeans earlier this year. Bought a pair of black jeans, loved them, bought the same style in indigo, in the same size. Took the labels off and wore them out and about and found they kept slipping down. They are much roomier in the blue. When I looked at the M&S website, the product reviews showed that I was not the only one to have the problem. Bloody annoying.

Baker111 · 18/09/2019 07:58

I understand this is a common problem with black jeans- something to do with the drying process makes the fabric tighter and the final product smaller. I’ve often had to size up in black jeans compared to blue (in other shops, not Primark). It’s very annoying and I don’t understand why they don’t just cut the black ones slightly larger?!

Metempsychosis · 18/09/2019 07:59

Black jeans being smaller than the equivalent blue jeans is a well known thing, not just Primark. You can never assume that the blue and black will fit the same.

Baker111 · 18/09/2019 07:59

Dyeing not drying!

OtraCosaMariposa · 18/09/2019 08:01

They don't have just one supplier. Hence massive inconsistency in sizing. DD is a Primark fan and knows from experience that she has to try things on before buying as she just can't assume the same size will fit.

CalmdownJanet · 18/09/2019 08:01

I stopped buying my jeans in Penney's for this very reason, the black jeans are always one size up from blue which is probably a size or two up from your actual size already. It's very annoying. I changed to New Look, they have lovely jeans, not much more expensive than Penney's, about €7-€10 a pair dearer but look, wash and last better and are a much nicer fit

AFistfulofDolores1 · 18/09/2019 08:02

If you want cheap Primark prices, you'll get the standards to match. And you'll get sweat shops. Rather go second-hand on eBay.

BilboBercow · 18/09/2019 08:20

Primark is far better now ethically than a lot of the pricier high street names. They really upped their game after the scandal a few years ago. In fact Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda all rate lower than Primark in terms of ethical treatment of their workers.
Unless you avoid the high street altogether you can't really get sneery about sweatshops and child labour

Blobby10 · 18/09/2019 08:30

GetOffTheTableMabe I had this with M & S with some cropped jeans a couple of years ago - the sales lady looked at the label and said they were made in different factories thats why one pair were tighter than the other!

My exMIL used to work for Sweater Shop as a cutter paid piece work - she said that when the roll of fabric is new they stick closely to the pattern so all items will be the same size but when they get nearer the end of the roll, everyone cuts much closer to the pattern (or slightly under!) so they get as many items as possible from the roll. it takes a long time to change rolls so they are losing the opportunity to earn whilst it happens. Not sure if this would apply to the overseas factories/sweatshops but might be part of the reason for size variations!

Booksandwine80 · 18/09/2019 08:42

It’s a black jeans thing-I have two identical pairs from next but the black pair is a size bigger. No idea why but it’s happened to me in other stores as well. 🤷🏼‍♀️

KUGA · 18/09/2019 08:59

I had the exact same experience but with M n S jeans.
Black size 12 perfect fit went back for a blue pair and couldn`t get them on.

rookiemere · 18/09/2019 10:57

This used to happen to me all the time with Boden, one of the reasons I've more or less stopped ordering from them.

Skyejuly · 18/09/2019 11:02

I had to buy a 16 in primark Jean's once...usually a 12. I like primark Jean's especially when skintm
