Sorry posting for traffic.

My details appeared on a website as the autofill details when people tried to register.

I was informed of this by a member of the public who saw this and contacted me with a screenshot.

I messaged the company and received an apology, apparently it was due to a 0.2 second glitch.

I feel an apology is not enough but what do I say or what do I do? I'm not good with these things. Could I get compensation? I'm really short on money at the minute and this could almost be a blessing!

You can’t claim compensation unless you suffer as a result of the mistake.

I very much doubt you could get compensation unless someone saw your information, copied it and used it to cause you some kind of harm/commit fraud/steal from you etc.

They must make reasonable steps to ensure that the issue is fixed and doesnt happen again and inform you as the the extent of the breech, but as far as im aware they wont owe you money and i dont belive that they should the chances of anything negitive happening due this is very small.

I would think it would also depend on your details.
Name & Address - not that exciting
Name & Address and d.o.b. - more of an issue
Name, Address, dob, credit card details - big problem

How strange, i take it this wasn't on a computer you had previously used?

WillyNilly00 · 17/09/2019 19:02

No it wasn't on a computer I have used before, thanks for your help everyone.

Even if you did manage to get some sort of compensation, it wouldn’t be immediate. It can take months so it wouldn’t help your cash flow problem right now.
