To remove my sideburns

They've always bothered me and made me feel a bit unfeminine but removing them has never seemed like the 'done' thing like say, eyebrow shaping or removing chin hairs.

So I removed them today.
I think it looks much better.

Is it too far? Do other women actually do this?

In some Asian and Arab cultures it is the 'done' thing to have your whole face de-haired - usually threaded in my limited experience. If it makes you happy, go for it!

ElizaPancakes · 16/09/2019 16:26

I genuinely can’t picture it other than like this pic of Kim Cattrall which I’m sure is not what you mean!

Yeah I do it. I'm not asian, but have thick dark hair so it bothers me. I honestly doubt anyone else would ever notice my sideburns, but I prefer my profile without them.
I just give that cm of downy hair a whizz with the razor every now and then, then don't think about it again. No big deal.

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 17:10

Oh, I’ve been removing mine for years!

Weirdly I don’t really have dark facial hair on my lip or chin, just mostly invisible peach fuzz, but my sideburns are quite dark and noticeable as I’ve got very short hair. Sometimes I just bleach them but sometimes I use a hair removing cream or a facial epilator thing.

If you feel better after you remove them, just crack on. If it makes you happier with your appearance, it’s fine.

LucyAutumn · 16/09/2019 17:28

I do it, not Asian but have PCOS.

bethankfulforwhatyouhave · 16/09/2019 18:34

I really want to, as they make me so self conscious and feel so bad about my appearance, these contribute to my negative feelings about me. But no idea how to, how far to take it and not sure if I'd look even more ugly without them. Glad you've had the confidence to do it as you're not happy with them, go you!

Neverender · 16/09/2019 18:52

I do it and I've never been happier - feel loads less self conscious

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 16/09/2019 18:57

My 12 year old DD keeps asking if she can remove hers. She already does legs/armpits/bikini line but I assumed doing her sideburns would make it more obvious growing back? Does it not grow back stubbly?

ElizaPancakes · 17/09/2019 21:54

Oh well that’s absolutely fine then @Fucksandflowers! Not in the style of Vulcan Grin

Loveislandaddict · 17/09/2019 21:57

Yes, i’ve removed or reduced them before, as I felt un-feminine with them also.

goldpendant · 17/09/2019 22:01

I use a dermaplaning tool for mine, go for it!

Loveislandaddict · 17/09/2019 22:01

Forgot to add, been doing it for years. Some hairdresser trim them into a stylish ‘point’, which isn’t so bad, but if they leave them bushes, out comes the scissors/razor!

Photo not me!

hiphopchick · 17/09/2019 22:05

@Fucksandflowers Sure, why not. If it's what you want. Smile

BarbaraStrozzi · 17/09/2019 22:15

Depends how you do it. Whatever you do, don't shave. I know someone who does this and five o'clock shadow/stubble is not a good look.

TinkerPony · 17/09/2019 22:23

Peach fuzz same derma planing tool and upper lip so much easier and painless compare to threading or tweeerman threader wand ow.

Ohyesiam · 17/09/2019 22:30

I use brow razors. No stubbly grow back

formerbabe · 17/09/2019 22:44

Yes I do this...wax them.

meccacos2 · 18/09/2019 05:01

I wax mine, not all the time - just whenever I do a wax (I go overboard and wax everything).

Makeup also looks better.

thundercats192 · 18/09/2019 06:02

I remove mine too, used to get "sides" threaded when I had my eyebrows threaded, but now I just pluck both with tweezers myself.
