A lady I know from work has joined an MLM selling some sort of laxative coffee.
Her FB and instagram are covered in posts for it and about her promotions/trying to get a car etc etc.
She very much fits the profile of people they poach, she’s a SAHM and it’s been a squeeze of late for her.

I think MLMs are poisonous and I hate seeing her posts flogging this nonsense.
AIBU to remove her from my friend list

@Lucie83 can you tell me what proportion of people make more than the minimum wage in your MLM? Really simple question. What MLM are you with?

Lucie83 · 17/09/2019 19:55

Please read my message I clearly said I work full time.

So please don’t start with me, if you have been scammed it’s a shame sorry 😐

Yabbers · 17/09/2019 19:56

No one has been sucked into mlm. Its all explained to people before joining.

Excellent. So they explain that 99.5% of people make nothing or lose money on MLMs, do they?

joblotbubble · 17/09/2019 19:57

@timeaftertime79

I might think your job is pathetic... but I wouldn’t tell you that!

The problem with nobody telling anybody is that MLM's contribute to damage people.

Vulnerable people get taken in by MLM bollocks and it can destroy them. That's not me thinking someone's job is pathetic, that's me thinking someone is in grace damaged or serious debt and a marriage break up.

Ive an acquaintance on fb who i see very irregularly now the children are older, who is a temple spa Hunbot. Last week i had an email and a text message and a whatsapp message about booking a spa afternoon and the new products. She had a professional job before children.

Ive a highly educated professional relative selling tropic skincare

Ive a friend selling acti

A fb acquaintance selling scentsy

One was selling the one that was crazy a few years ago with the energising drinks etc. Cant remember the name. With all the Aloe?? Another professional.

One selling Cambridge shakes.

One on body shop.

And two on avon.

i just want to yell go back to the career you've bloody worked hard for!

YouokHun · 17/09/2019 20:04

@Lucie83 you know full well that I haven’t been scammed by one of your MLMs. I am asking you as a representative of an MLM to give us some facts about something I assume you’ve carefully researched so you should have the information. Implying others are less good mothers or assuming we are bitter ex-Huns is not an intelligent defence of MLM, it’s a deflection. And why not share what MLM you work for? If you believe it to be bona fide?

Woodlandwitch · 17/09/2019 20:06

@Lucie83 am I reading that correct? You work full time for an MLM and are sorry about the people you have scammed through it?

Melroses · 17/09/2019 20:09

Im starting to think there should be warning by midwives in all antenatal classes about unscrupulous saleswomen targeting women at their most vulnerable

Interestingly, we had a community midwife who used to sell those smell-alike knock-off perfumes to her mums. Wonder what happened to them Hmm (midwife must be at least 88 now)

nannykatherine · 17/09/2019 20:10

everyone should watch the Stacey Dooley documentary in MLM s
eye opening even if you didn’t like them before ..
it’s amazing how people sucked into them-go completely blind tho ..
i expect its about saving face .

Bunnyfuller · 17/09/2019 20:14

I had a heart attack in April. I’d been eating too much and moving too little. Bizarrely the NHS have advised me to eat less and move more. It’s working. I’m 2.5 stone down, and 1.5 to go.

Coffee hasn’t featured as a contributing factor. Or Juice. Or Aloe Vera. Or crappity candles, or tablets, or fucking unicorns.

You’re being ripped off and typing ‘ur’ just confirms everyone’s views - if you have time to post, you certainly have time to spell properly, rather than using text speak like ‘ur’ 13 years old ffs.

YouokHun · 17/09/2019 20:15

@nannykatherine do you mean the Ellie Flynn docu on BBC iplayer? It was excellent. They had so much material they had to focus on two MLMs, NuSkin and Younique. As mentioned upthread, it’s also worth downloading the Stitcher podcast called The Dream, charting the history of pyramid schemes and how they’ve tweaked their structure to get round the law - really good.

OtraCosaMariposa · 17/09/2019 20:17

It wasn't Stacey Dooley, it was Ellie Flynn. And yes, definitely worth a watch.

OtraCosaMariposa · 17/09/2019 20:18

Flynnshine · 17/09/2019 20:18

I don't need to rtft to answer this...

Yes, yes a million times yes!

Unless you want to grab some popcorn and watch her slowly transform into an MLM Bot!

YouokHun · 17/09/2019 20:19

Oh @Bunnyfuller wishing you a speedy recovery! I’m amazed you haven’t been approached!

Ticklemeelmo · 17/09/2019 20:21

i expect its about saving face .

Yes this explains a lot. Why people buy loads of stock themselves to meet the targets (the documentary showed a woman who'd bought enough Lululemon clothes to fill a shop)

And it also explains why people quietly stop doing MLMs instead of being honest about their losses. They are told to post constantly about how well they're doing even if it's not true- so when it invariably fails they're too embarrassed to tell the truth. And so more people get suckered in.

Lucie83 · 17/09/2019 20:27

Who said anyone was a bad mother?

I said I have a strict schedule.

So now it’s time for me to go and relax and log off from social media.

Good Night x

Lucie83 · 17/09/2019 20:28

I work full time for a company, I get paid for exchanging my time and skills.

LifeBeginsNow · 17/09/2019 20:32

I have a family member that's just started with the Body Shop. She has invited me to a group for it which I haven't accepted but I feel guilty to decline. Even though I've not accepted, I can still see the 10 posts a day offering competitions and posting ridiculous questions to try and get a response.

I've also seen a new MLM on Facebook which sells perfume. Each one is given a number and it is matched to a well known scent. I feel really sorry for her as she doesn't have much money, has a young child and has had some PND. The posts come across as desperate and I never notice anyone ordering.

Does anyone know if the work for home for Amazon is some sort of scam? You can make £27/hour and need to be logged on but it doesn't explain what it is. The wording on the ad strikes me as dodgy and too good to be true.

YouokHun · 17/09/2019 20:32

@lucie83 nicely swerved.

YouokHun · 17/09/2019 20:36

@LifeBeginsNow the perfume one sounds like FM World - a disaster. It really targets those who can least afford the mistake. As for the Amazon thing, I’ve seen that all over local FB selling pages - sounds dodgy to me.

Jellicoe · 17/09/2019 20:37

What are hun bots?

smilingontheinside · 17/09/2019 20:42

Why are people selling special coffee to make you shit, normal coffee works for me. I just make it at home or buy a neros job(bie) done! Grin

Birthday552 · 17/09/2019 20:45

Wow. Mumsnet at it’s worst. I feel sorry for people who are conned by these schemes and we should be trying to close them down if we feel so enraged by them. It’s disgusting that vulnerable people ( predominantly) women are being preyed on. Slagging each other off and insulting people’s intelligence isn't really going to help is it??

Bunnyfuller · 17/09/2019 20:52

Every.single.mlm.cliche.confirmed.by.those.doing.it.

Fuck me, do you honestly think spamming FB trumps investment banking or numerous other REAL money printing industries?!
