Lol. Oh ffs I’m taking the piss. You’re so straight.

I want walking trousers that look nice. Thank you for the tips. I’ve no walking suitable trousers. Sorry my 12 miles is too paltry and I’m not scaling the Eiger 🙄🙄

Thing is, nice looking doesn't always mean practical and you don't want trousers that rub, or leave you too sweaty, or that take forever to dry.

I find it's worth spending a bit more money to get something you genuinely find comfortable and that will last you a long time. I do wear leggings sometimes but they're rubbish in the cold and wind and do very little to protect your bum from sitting on cold rocks!

AliciaQuays · 15/09/2019 20:55

I’ve managed without for years. Also need for watching rugby

The acai ones are awful. Very very tight. definitely need to go up a size.

Also not waterproof. Barely water resistant

fruitpastille · 15/09/2019 23:33

I've got some from mountain warehouse but mostly I wear my running leggings for hiking. For rugby I would get something fleece lined!

nononever · 16/09/2019 06:54

You could always wear a base layer under them for rugby. I have a merino pair and they are cosy.

AliciaQuays · 16/09/2019 07:32

Yy. Good idea.

I’m laughing still at the person “do you want to look sexy for a man?” 🙄

Come on - feminism is a thing 😀

Merino base layers are really good - not bulky and surprisingly warm!

lazylinguist · 16/09/2019 08:16

Craghoppers. Comfortable and pretty flattering. I don't think there's any such thing as sexy walking trousers tbh.

MrsTishellsNeckBrace · 16/09/2019 09:08

Merino base esp. for the rugby.

EduCated · 16/09/2019 09:12

I caved and got the Craghopper Kiwi Pro Stretch ones. I dislike them but begrudgingly accept that they are very sensible. I prefer the grey to the black.

But mostly I wear gym leggings. Comfy, stretchy, quick drying. Just not terribly warm.

Hopoindown31 · 16/09/2019 09:12

I've got hips and a bum so most walking trousers look crap on me. They seem to be for tall thin athletic types!

I have a pair of craghoppers zip offs they are good, comfortable and wash well.

WitsEnding · 16/09/2019 09:13

Craghoppers used to be great but the waist seems huge lately. I'm wearing Brasher at the moment and the website had a sale last time I looked.
They aren't my idea of sexy but I've had a few compliments on my bum so guess the back view is better.

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 09:24

Classic Mumsnet snottiness here from people who are incapable of comprehending that some people might want to be active and look nice in a way that makes them feel good about themselves. The two aren't mutually exclusive, you know. So many snobby assumptions. So much internalised misogyny.

@AliciaQuays I also want some walking trousers that aren't entirely horrible. If I find any I shall report back!

nononever · 16/09/2019 09:46

They aren't my idea of sexy but I've had a few compliments on my bum so guess the back view is better.

That made me laugh as my husband said my bum looks great in the Brashers, so yes back view much better I guess Grin.

As an aside, I fell quite heavily when wearing them, I had two skint knees but the trousers didn't have a mark on them.

Unburnished · 16/09/2019 11:02

Actually, you’re right. The Cragghoppers do have a huge waist but i just wear a belt. To the person who said they were made for tall athletic types, the ones Ive seen are definitely cut for curves.

@ThirstyGhost good to know about the er... issues.

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2019 13:14

Patagonia

Pricey, but worth it.

AliciaQuays · 16/09/2019 17:22

I love this thread

My Craghoppers are possibly the only trousers I have that are cut correctly for my hourglass figure. Not big waist at all.

PenCreed · 16/09/2019 19:55

Every pair of walking trousers I’ve tried have been a horrible fit. I have biggish thighs but a small waist, they all look dreadful and were either too big round my waist or immediate camel toe. Are there really some out there which are even slightly flattering? I know that’s not what they’re for, but I prefer my clothes to fit properly and not make me feel shit.

Benefitofthedoubt · 16/09/2019 19:58

Acai Activewear

Haven’t read the thread. Apologies if already mentioned.

supersop60 · 16/09/2019 20:10

OP - I think I'm the person who you think hasn't heard of feminism.
Sorry - you were joking. I did not get that!

applespearsbears · 16/09/2019 20:14

Montane ineo

SleepyKat · 16/09/2019 20:24

I generally wear running tights/leggings. Thicker thermal ones in winter. Waterproof trousers over the top when needed.

Last year I found some Arcteryx ones in the sale, actually men’s trousers but nobody knows, they look, fab.

Oldbluecarpet · 16/09/2019 20:51

Sorry to jump on this post but can any recommend a pair of lined ones? We’re off to a chilly country soon so need some cosy ones! Don’t want to spend crazy money though as will Need a couple of pairs each.
