Injured and WFH?

Quick work/injury q -

I've sprained my toes - lots of swelling, can't walk on my foot (doing a side shuffle) and some cuts from the fall. At the hospital they said it'd take 6 weeks to heal and I need to rest as much as possible in the next few weeks.

I walk just over a mile to/from work every day which just won't be possible tomorrow.

I have my laptop at home and can work from here. WIBU to just say tomorrow that I need to WFH all week? Or should I speak to GP about an official sick line?

If you can work from home and your work are fine with that then I would. Your foot shouldn't prevent you sitting at a computer. If you need adjustments made I.e. your pain meds make you too woozy then you might need to self cert for a few days?

It seems to me that a lot depends on who you work for and what you do. If you have a decent sick pay scheme and the place won't collapse without you, take sick leave and get better. If you have a guilty conscience, then talk to your line manager asap about working from home.

If you wouldn't be paid, a mile's not that far and while you certainly shouldn't walk, a taxi to work and back won't break the bank.

But if your job involves any walking, don't go in.

I usually WFH one day per week. I'm in a tiny team with a big to do list right now so would prefer to work.
