Yes, in my late 20s. I had braces as a teen but then as an adult my two front teeth moved to create a gap. It wasn’t noticeable at first and I didn’t mind a little gap, but it got bigger and my other teeth started moving as a result so I decided to get braces. I also didn’t feel as confident smiling with teeth in photos.
I had one train track style brace across the front of my teeth, it was £1200 for a metal brace or £1400 for ceramic so I opted for ceramic as they were a bit more subtle, and £200 seemed like a small increase as I was already paying a large sum. I paid £500 upfront and the rest in monthly instalments which really helped spread the cost.
It was fine, ended up wearing them for a year. They hurt slightly after semi regular appointments for tightening but never more than a dull ache.
I never felt embarrassed about it, most people barely noticed. And when I came across other adults with braces it was like being in a little club! (A waiter once gave my a free cocktail in a brunch place as we had chatted about our braces). I find it’s quite common nowadays, I only really noticed how many others had them when I had them too.
I’m over the moon with the result, my teeth are perfectly straight and I’m confident smiling in pictures after years of self consciously. The timing was perfect as I was a bridesmaid at my best friend’s wedding so could small properly in her photos.
A great investment, I do have to wear a plastic retainer at night to stop them moving again but it’s fine, just part of my routine now and I have a little case for it if I’m travelling. I got them done and an orthodontist in Kent/SE London.
