To ask if any of you got braces as an adult

I have always had one of my top front teeth noticeably protrude in front of the other and have learnt to live with it but avoid taking pictures and showing my teeth. I am now considering getting braces and would like to know the cost, effectiveness and length of time you had to use them. I live in Outer London if anyone can recommend a dentist. Tia

Forgot to mention, I went back to my dentist to get another brace after a few years as I didn’t bother with my retainer for longer than 6 months and my teeth moved (stupid mistake all of my own doing) but I wasn’t able to get one as my molars were heavily filled by then (3 years later I noticed the teeth moving).
You need a good anchor to tie the brace on to and I no longer had one. So the sooner you get braces the better! Also the nhs site says adults can get braces if there is a medical need. You could try that avenue first. The nhs website goes on to say £2.5k is the approx private cost. That was in 2018 when the page was written.

If it’s overcrowded Invisalign really isn’t a great choice you will get results but if you are doing it do it properly.

I got train tracks for 18 months and the results were ASTOUNDING
Even my orthodontist was impressed Grin

Best £3k I ever spent...

I had it done for the exact same reason than you did. That was 4 years ago. I really don't regret it now, but I hated the 18 months I had to live with it. The outcome was good, but again, not as fabulous I'd imagined (my fault). 4 years on, despite wearing my retainer as indicated and beyond, and with a fixture behind, my teeth a moving slightly, especially one of the canines.

At the time, it cost me about £75 a month on good deal.

I'm almost finished a 15 month top only ceramic braces. Very happy with progress.

My orthodontist is pretty scathing about the 6 month smile offerings that dentists can offer without a huge amount of additional training. It's probably great for mild cases which don't require each bracket being individually wiggled, but as my treatment is nearing completion, the shear amount of twists and tweaks the orthodontist is putting in would mean I'd recommend orthodontist over dentist/6 month smile package.

I'll be given both permanent and removeable retainers to wear (for life) afterwards.

First few days after each adjustment can be a bit uncomfortable, but totally worth it.
