To report to school what my DD told me about this lunchtime supervisor?

Namechangingforthis2019 · 14/09/2019 14:03

Dd(8) told me that yesterday she saw a lunchtime supervisor take a fish finger off the tray at the serving hatch with her fingers and eat it. Dd said no other adults saw, she has seen this staff member do this before.
Would you email school and pass on what dd said?

A few bits of context -

  • I believe dd, she is not likely to have made this up
  • lunchtime supervisor has been working there about 30 years. She’s very harsh with the kids (based on what dd has told me) and anecdotally other parents have said even the staff are a bit scared of her!
  • school has an outbreak of norovirus last week so have been very hot on infection control, washing hands etc.

I know she probably didn’t touch anyone else’s food, but it’s not right is it? If nothing else it’s unprofessional and sets a bad example to the kids. But I don’t want to bother the school if it’s not really a big deal.

Would you report it or leave it?

Yabu = I should not report it
yanbu = I should email the school about it

Sorry but why would it be a contamination risk? She only touched one fish finger and she ate it. Do you wash your hands everytime you put a bit of food in your mouth?

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 14/09/2019 14:58

I think you are getting a hard time op. At our school its counted out to the last scoop of beans and this would mean a child getting mash, 1/2 a boiled egg and some plain pasta. Actually happened before........ disgusting food hygiene to be eating around food serving.......

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 14/09/2019 14:58

Was it the end of lunch? Once all the children have been served at my school, the leftovers are free for anyone in the vicinity rather than throw food away. I’ve been known to go into the hall at the end of lunch to make sure all is well and had a tray of chips or potato croquettes held out to me.

RosesAndRaindrops · 14/09/2019 14:59

This means they cook only EXACT quantities

So what happens if they drop one on the floor then?
Kid goes hungry or 5 second rule?! Grin
aware I'm over-thinking this

@BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou

This is what happens at school I teach and would imagine so.

A few things were going through my head when I opened this thread...

I was incredibly disappointed to read: nicked a fishfinger.

user1471582494 · 14/09/2019 15:03

I can't believe I just wasted 30 seconds reading that! What a waste of your energy and mine.
Is your life really that boring that this is an issue??

backaftera2yearbreak · 14/09/2019 15:04

A clipe is a Scottish word for a tell tale

Yeah, bit of a letdown, I mean could have been something a bit more exciting like a fumble in the stock cupboard with the janitor or summat Grin
Alas, no.
A Fish. Finger.

Nanny0gg · 14/09/2019 15:13

You must have thought this was daft, going by your username?

KurriKurri · 14/09/2019 15:15

I'd save it up and store it for when you want to complain about her being harsh with the kids as in 'She made my DD stand in a corner for 30 mins with a brick on her head ......... and she Steals Fishfingers.' DadadadaDAAAAA - got her bang to rights.

I'm also disappointed with the lack of fish puns on this thread
'She took a fishfinger just for the halibut'
'She needs to know her plaice'
'Cod knows what she was thinking'
etc.

rosesandcashmere · 14/09/2019 15:17

Call 101

PlaceYourItemInTheBaggingArea · 14/09/2019 15:21

And before you ask - no she didn’t tell me I was being ridiculous not to my face and encouraged me to email the school!

😂😂😂😂 I bet she did!

MutedUser · 14/09/2019 15:24

I’m pretty sure no school cooks to exact quantities. For the very reason someone pointed out things fall on the ground . Kids drop things . Things get spoiled.

OP get a grip what did you want her to lose her job? She has been there for 30 years she deserves a bloody fish finger.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 14/09/2019 15:25

When my mum was a dinner lady they had lunch provided free at the end of service. So she ate a bit of hers early?

Bookworm4 · 14/09/2019 15:26

they took a fish finger off the tray with their fingers and ate it without a plate.
Crime of the century!!
I thought most people ate certain foods with their hands? Pizza? Chips?
Heaven forbid the silverware and best china isn’t out!

PlaceYourItemInTheBaggingArea · 14/09/2019 15:26

Was she the sole villain?

🐟

Mookie81 · 14/09/2019 15:26

Firstly they don't cook exact amounts. My school preorders and there is still loads left that gets thrown away every day.
Secondly, this would get the greatest laugh from all staff; every time you walked through the playground, came into the office, parents evening, etc we would snigger your back. You would be called 'fishfinger mum' long after your clipe child left school!
