To report to school what my DD told me about this lunchtime supervisor?

Namechangingforthis2019 · 14/09/2019 14:03

Dd(8) told me that yesterday she saw a lunchtime supervisor take a fish finger off the tray at the serving hatch with her fingers and eat it. Dd said no other adults saw, she has seen this staff member do this before.
Would you email school and pass on what dd said?

A few bits of context -

  • I believe dd, she is not likely to have made this up
  • lunchtime supervisor has been working there about 30 years. She’s very harsh with the kids (based on what dd has told me) and anecdotally other parents have said even the staff are a bit scared of her!
  • school has an outbreak of norovirus last week so have been very hot on infection control, washing hands etc.

I know she probably didn’t touch anyone else’s food, but it’s not right is it? If nothing else it’s unprofessional and sets a bad example to the kids. But I don’t want to bother the school if it’s not really a big deal.

Would you report it or leave it?

Yabu = I should not report it
yanbu = I should email the school about it

YANBU
Somewhere there is a mother fish who has to live with the ordeal that one of her offspring has to live life minus a finger without getting proper remittance.
Also, think of the poor mumsnet readers who have had to read this and have their blood pressure soar.
My advice would be to pray to cod in the hope in the hope that he can solely devote time to prevent hungry people eating fish just for the halibut.

Definitely call the Police on her, and SS, and grass her up to the school...

TheNestedIf · 15/09/2019 15:11

I think the OP has clammed up. Still, good that she could sea bass the fact she was being a bit unreasonable.

Poppins2016 · 15/09/2019 15:15

im surprised an 8 year old noticed and thought it worth mentioning to you

Most children have a very strong sense of right/wrong and justice. If a dinner lady is seen to be strict and then she breaks the rules in public, I can see why an 8 year old would think it was worth mentioning. It's simply not fair!

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 15/09/2019 15:38

One of the most ludicrous things I've ever read on here!

Ibiza7 · 15/09/2019 17:52

@littlepaddypaws - 'shagging the janitor in the cleaning cupboard'. Ha ha I wonder if you worked in the same school in Essex that I did?

Gilld69 · 15/09/2019 17:56

Hope shes paying for it kids have to pay for theirs acceptable if its leftovers but not while kids are being fed

PositiveVibez · 15/09/2019 17:56

Omg. I can't believe that you were actually considering contacting the school 😂😂

stephi81 · 15/09/2019 18:00

I had to re-read this again just to make sure I hadn't missed some crucial bit that would make more sense as to why this has bothered you so much... Still couldn't find it.

Derbee · 15/09/2019 18:04

I would definitely suggest the police for the fish finger theft, and DEFRA for the potential contamination issues. Maybe alert your local MP, just to keep them informed.

Anything else would be a severe under reaction. Best of luck. And I’m sorry your daughter had to witness this event. Confused

Elsie1966 · 15/09/2019 18:11

Tattle tailing that's what this sorry op school yard tactics at your age 🤔🤔🤔🤔

BrendasUmbrella · 15/09/2019 18:11

There is an irony in the way these threads always go. Ten times more hysteria in the comments than in the opening post, but yes, she should calm down...

ticking · 15/09/2019 18:11

Mumsnet forever surprises me.

I work in a car company - I would not be alowwed to take a car

A cleaner would not be allowed to take cleaning materials for her own use

Why on earth would a person who serves food be allowed to eat it while serving, including the likelihood of saliva on fingers, and continue serving. Every waitress/pub job I have done, you are allowed food in the correct area after it has been served to customers....you are definitely not allowed to "pick at it" when serving and I don't see why schools should have different rules?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 15/09/2019 18:14

She isnt serving the food ticking

Toooldfornonsense · 15/09/2019 18:16

Are you for real? Seriously? You sound like a daily mail reporter looking for a ridiculous story...

reginafelangee · 15/09/2019 18:16

Is this a serious question?

cielitolindo · 15/09/2019 18:25

This is ridiculous!! If this is a big problem in your life, you are very lucky, other people do have real problems 😗😗😗

sauvignonblancplz · 15/09/2019 18:28

What is up with MN today??? Bored women are out in force . Must be the full moon.
OP go for a walk, have a drink , I dunno but give yourself a shake & wise up.

BeepBeeep · 15/09/2019 18:33

You and your daughter need to practice your best sad faces and then get onto the daily mail.
Don't forget to hold a box of fish fingers too for the photo.
And ensure they include the line ......speaking from her ( include house worth and amount of bedrooms home )
