I shall keep this light hearted as there is nothing else to do. But .....I live in a very small road with terraced housing. Only one car access way in and out from every busy main road. Tomorrow a great the Tour of England cycling tour closes done my only access by car in and out of my street from 8am to 3pm. In order to reach an area to park my car without being blocked in I need to to walk half a mile. The signs that were up yesterday suggested 12:30 till 1:30. These are new ones today. Would it be unreasonable for me to launch a one woman protest and remove all the barriers both human and physical from blocking me? Anyone care to join?

Do you need to go out in the car tomorrow? Can't you watch them race? Half of them will be married to Mumsnetters!

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 13/09/2019 18:41

hollow ssshhhhhhh.... Don't. Reveal. The. Hobby. Grin

I feel like this about a yearly event near me but then i have a little word with myself and I'm ok again.

HollowTalk · 13/09/2019 18:42

Grin Yes, the hobby that would give away someone's identity...

RuggerHug · 13/09/2019 18:43

I'd take it as an excuse to stay indoors and work through a box set or something instead Grin

Stinkycatbreath · 13/09/2019 18:48

Stinkycatbreath · 13/09/2019 18:51

Rugger hug. Box set would be lovely but a three year old and a 90 year old MIL with a set shopping day are calling.😁

Do you need to use your car tomorrow? Are you incapable of walking half a mile? (that's a whole 10 mins walk lol). Or are you just fed up because you can be?

Try living where I do in London and the roads being blocked from 2am on a Sunday for hours because of the stupid bloody Prudential Cycle Ride. Just so suburbanites can have a jolly cycle through London. How nice for them. Bloody annoying for those who live here and have things to do. I can't get to work because of the roads being blocked (work is 50 miles away and in the middle of nowhere so no public transport).

There's a theme here about cycling causing problems......

Stinkycatbreath · 13/09/2019 18:56

It's fine like everything it's only a but of an inconvenience. If I didn't have to go anywhere specifically on Saturday I'd stay and watch but I work all week. The husband is away this weekend for his university course ( gosh maybe he is a secret cyclist) and normally does the shopping.

Marvellous you are s bit snappy this evening .... as stated this is meant to be light hearted if you cant say anything nice dont bother.

Hundred in problems with half a mile at all just that I have no choice and no other way in or out. I wouldn't have minded a couple of hours but this is nearly a full day. I really dont have issues with the cycling it's about time we had a some decent sporting events locally just the enforced lack of access I think and length of time.

ChangeOfTides · 13/09/2019 19:03

Are you sure the roads are closed for the full day? The tour of Britain uses a lot of rolling road closures where they’d only be closed for less than an hour.

AgeLikeWine · 13/09/2019 19:05

Walking half a mile takes ten minutes, so I really don’t see the problem?

WhatTiggersDoBest · 13/09/2019 19:10

Do you live near any brick walls? I'm thinking you need a Road Runner/ Wil-E-Coyote sort of tunnel painted on the brick wall with an ACME diversion signpost... Grin

Stinkycatbreath · 13/09/2019 19:23

Change . The posters say those times so my well be as you day rolling road block.

Ha. My sister at the weekend. It was in her town. Started at say 11. She drives down. Moves the barrier. Zooms up to Gregg's at gets out. Shes stopped by security. Please move your car madam.
She says are you joking me
I'm going to work. I need coffee. And a bacon roll. Marches into Gregg's. Buys it. Comes out and they are stood open mouthed. Off she drives.

I said I cannot believe you did that. She just looked at me and went but I live hereBlush

moobar · 13/09/2019 19:30

Sorry I should add this was at 8am. Closure was 7 to 5. Event 11 to 4 roughly.

Stinkycatbreath · 13/09/2019 19:35

HALF A FUCKING MILE, YOUR LEGS WILL DROP OFF!!!!!

ElizaDee · 13/09/2019 19:40

Moobar, why shouldn't she? Drivers pay road tax, cyclists don't...

Stinkycatbreath · 13/09/2019 19:42

Time. I can walk it it's not the issue it's the fact that it is being imposed for so long. I checked the website and apparently there is a rolling road block with police which shuts it down for about an hour at most. That's really pissed on my AIBU chips😁

This would happen annually where I used to live.

There was no way out for five hours. Even on foot. While they did give notice you couldn't park your car elsewhere because both roads out were uncrossible. I was five days overdue.

I asked the organisers what their plan was they told me they'd let ambulances in and out. I didn't need a fucking ambulance! I'd just need to get to the fuck hospital! They didn't care because the race was more important and mO fArAh was running don't you know!!!

Christ sake, they where allowed to put expense and pressure on the NHS budget for a run!!!

queenMab99 · 13/09/2019 19:52

This time of year, our town has an airshow, 24 hour yacht race, various 10k, half marathons, triathlons etc, which mostly close a main route, and very often result in queues to get in, on the only 3 routes into the town, and gridlock within the town itself. I am sick of it, I just want to go about my usual activities without all this inconvenience!races
I have just realized that we don't usually have any cycle races Hooray!!
