We're looking at David Wilson homes in the Midlands and I always thought they were really good builders with lovely designs.....until I looked online and saw a multitude of horrific posts about their shoddy workmanship and 'cowboy antics' Shock. Does anybody out there own a David Wilson home? Yay or nay?

Just moved into one (built three years ago). It's great. We moved from a Taylor Wimpey we'd had from new and the difference in quality is completely noticeable.

I’ve never bought a new home because I don’t like the look of them, but a lady who runs a home organisation group I’m on (Facebook) found rubbish stuffed in the walls and underneath the bath in her David Wilson house when she went to renovate. The workers had left rubbish from both building and lunch Envy (not envy) and instead of removing it from the house just plastered it into the walls. This was one of many things they’d found since moving in.

@weebarra. There's one nice bit of feedback...what I'm hoping for. We've seen a lovely house...but then looked online and lots of negative comments. Probably those that have had problems shouting the loudest?

@PooWillyBumBum (great name). That's the sort of thing I've read. Also just turfing over the garden without clearing the building rubble first so it looks lush on moving in day....and is dead by the end of the first month

@PooWillyBumBum

Probably! Our garden is fine. We will be extending soon so might find pee and rubbish then!

berlinbabylon · 13/09/2019 17:00

Aren't all the builders crap? Building overpriced, poor quality houses on floodplains?

itsabongthing · 13/09/2019 17:01

From what I’ve heard they’re not the worst - I think the likes of Persimmon are worse...

trinitybleu · 13/09/2019 17:03

Bought DW 15 years ago and it's been great. They came back and did snags without any issue (all very minor stuff). Only issue has really been pipes that have started to leak now as the connections have perished, but we also have extremely hard water so that buggers everything up. I'd buy another, no problem.

(and we're on top of a hill, no flood plain Smile)

MissPepper8 · 13/09/2019 17:04

Won't agree nor disagree with here, they are expensive homes and for the money you pay I would expect their to be limited snagging issues with the properties.

Just as a FYI though, if you look into it deeper all these companies have what you call "snagging" pages on Instagram ect where the quality of their homes haven't been up to scratch.

I've come across Persimmons, Wimpy and Barratt pages so farwhen we've been looking to home buy. It all depends I guess on how good the local builder they've employed is.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 13/09/2019 18:26

I work for a company that deals with problems from shoddy new builds. David Wilson are a lot less often come across for us.
Taylor wimpey and bovis on the other hand... 🤷

That’s awful! Shock

We've been in our DW home 2 years, it's 3 years old so had one previous owner. No issues at all, except a leaking shower head which was replaced by the manufacturer on production of our NHB certificate. Also our burglar alarm had never been activated..we paid a company to come and do it, but despite the control panel and everything being in place, they'd never bothered wiring any electric too it...so unfinished wiring job. Quickly fixed though. We love ours, design, space, quality, etc.

BrummyMummy9 · 05/03/2020 18:09

We were really worried about the quality of our new build so used a snagging company. We used “the professional snagging company”... they were good value compared to others I researched and I got a really detailed report with pictures. Worth it even though I wasn’t sure
