To ask quick advice about a first date

Not dated for ages so need some quick advice.
Know him socially so know he’s not dangerous or anything, but if he offers to pick me up, would it look ok if I said that I’ll just meet him in town
( which is what I’d rather do) There’s nowhere to park where we are going- it would mean if I met him in town, we get the 9 minute overground train journey together to where we are going
Just don’t want the awkwardness of that thing where he runs you home and you’re deciding whether to ask him in for a coffee... as I don’t want things to go mega fast early on

Yes just say “thanks for the offer but I’ll be in town already - meet at X?”

Also agree completely that it’s a better way to do it if you want to take things slow!
