Trolls

What is a troll specifically? Just someone who makes up fantasy situations and posts them?

Just clicked on a thread about someone’s son and his gf who has a 1 month old son and when I refreshed the page it says it’s a troll.

I don’t understand why people would do this? Is there a reason why?

I always thought a troll was someone who gave abuse to others online? So strange

boredom, attention seeking, likes drama, makes then feel better about themselves, fetish ? who knows what goes through a another persons mind

@littlepaddypaws Has answered it excellently. I genuinely wouldn't have the time to troll let alone the inclination.

Not exactly - strictly speaking a 'troll' is someone who posts things that aren't true or opinions that they don't necessarily really believe solely to provoke a reaction from others. It's attention-seeking/stirring, basically.

The term 'troll' is often used incorrectly - a lot of people think it means anyone who is abusive or argumentative online, but it's not quite as simple as that.

I reckon boredom. In the school holidays and weekend evenings they tend to come out of the wood work. I think it gives some people a bit of thrill. I can understand it in the psychological sense but really why bother. But there we go.

I couldn’t even be bothered thinking of pretend situations to post for attention.
