I’ve started watching Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes as they’re now on iPlayer. I missed them first time around. I remember someone mentioning Philip Glenister as being hot and thinking Confused but now I totally see it!

Anyone else? Blush

I didn't know Gene Hunt was a person. I thought Gene Hunt was a show at first, a show about finding your ancestors.

Defenbaker · 13/09/2019 03:51

@Durgasarrow - LMAO! 😁

I'm with the OP on this one... he is attractive, very manly. His eyes are amazing.

AdamAntsCrackpotHistory · 13/09/2019 05:24

DominicCummingsGilet · 13/09/2019 09:36

Siameasy · 13/09/2019 10:37

Cor yes I love Gene Hunt
He’s a DCI-what’s not to like?!
I love the pock marked skin and the hair and the northern accent and he’s so un PC and generally doesn’t give a shit
I defo would

Siameasy · 13/09/2019 10:43

I didn’t like Burnside in the Bill (too Phil Collins) but I did secretly like Carver 🙈

sluj · 13/09/2019 11:32

I am old enough to remember men like him, and it wasnt so great at the time, but definitely something sexy about Gene Hunt. Nostalgia maybe? The men I used to work with all had that slightly sweaty smell from the nylon polyester shirts though. Heavily disguised with Old Spice or Brut 33 Grin

Fire up the Quattro and It's Tuesday and I'm avin oops are standard phrases in this house.

Angry This thread has given me a mind-worm, if that's a thing. It's made me think of an actor, I don't know what his name is or what he was in and I can't find him on google and it's going to bug me. He's not on my 'would' list either.

He plays a (UK) detective, in a brown coat, big smoker and bit of an alcoholic. Pock marked skin. Whenever I read a Mo Hayder Jack Caffery book, I think of him as the detective. He's a bit reminiscent of Burnside.

This is going to bug the shit out of me.

Think the coat might be black, though.Grin

NoTheresa · 13/09/2019 13:53

Or Cormoran Strike. His coat is definitely brown but perhaps the skin is not pockmarked. Lol

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I think the finale excellently squares the Gene Hunt who is brash, insensitive 'big man', with the guy that we see mostly making the right call when it comes to what matters.

Same with Ray.

SinglePringle · 13/09/2019 14:06

God yes to Phillip and Gene.

Gene is undoubtedly a Neanderthal but you know that if he loved you, he’d love you fiercely. You’d have to argue your point about why he was being a sexist twat but ultimately, he’d listen and agree.

One woman man, our Gene.

NoTheresa · 13/09/2019 14:09

It IS the 21st century, no?!

(I do agree, though, about the Gene effect. sigh)

Babysharkisanearworm · 13/09/2019 14:10

I cannot think why but he does it for me too. That island at war thing was great and I so wanted to go to the dark side!

ElizaDee · 13/09/2019 14:15

@NoTheresa, No Grin

freakydeaky · 13/09/2019 14:20

Ooh, does anyone know if the Island at War series is available on tv at all? I’ve googled but can’t find it anywhere

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 13/09/2019 14:49

Definitely Team Gene here too. I don't know why. He's got no attributes to admire really and yet...

Drivemecrazy1974 · 13/09/2019 14:54

In my opinion, Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes are THE best programmes ever. The casting was spot on, even the minor characters were brought to life so brilliantly. The music, the stories - this is a faultless show to be honest! It's regular viewing in this household - every year, Decemeber the 1st comes and we start slowly watching Life on Mars, ending in Christmas week with Ashes to Ashes. It's kind of become a tradition. We do have to have a few gaps in between just so we can be sure of watching Ashes at Christmas.

It's a great pity they never did a Christmas episode of either show!!
I'm already counting down the days until December 1st!

David Hayman is very very similar but I don't think that's him.

DominicCummingsGilet · 13/09/2019 17:03

ElizaDee was it a recent programme or from 70s/80s?

OP posts:
ElizaDee · 13/09/2019 18:00

He may have been in things since the 80's.

NoTheresa · 13/09/2019 18:40

@ElizaDee

This one although the coat is not brown?
