I’ve started watching Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes as they’re now on iPlayer. I missed them first time around. I remember someone mentioning Philip Glenister as being hot and thinking but now I totally see it!

Anyone else?

Interesting that so many are attracted to a man who would be pilloried in the 21st century! Maybe we all prefer the rougher diamonds.

@tillytrotter he was a man of his time I guess. You have to remember he wanted to be a big man but, really he wasn't. That's what I liked about him.

However, I agree about Keeley Hawes.

I wasn’t a big fan of Ashes to Ashes, but there was a scene where Keeley Hawes’ character had a bad day and Gene Hunt wordlessly walked up to her in the pub and poured her a massive glass of wine without saying a word.

My knickers melted off.

Omg, I used to have a massive crush on Philip Glenister as Gene Hunt (still do if I am honest).

Ooh I loved Life on Mars but had heard that Ashes to Ashes wasn't any good so I never saw it! Will have to watch now... maybe I can convince dh it's a really good program he will definitely enjoy and I have no ulterior motives at all.

I love both series equally and plan to watch them all through from the very beginning again.

Nothing surpasses the Uptown Girl scene though, although Ashes S3 in general is my least favourite.

Although Gene Hunt as Tufty the Squirrel is up there, too.

I am with you. Only just got round to watching Ashes to Ashes recently and was smitten. I like a manly man. Even if he is a chauvinist. I would have to argue with him all the time, but I can imagine it would be great making up
