To go to A & E for this

So I posted on the 28th of August to see DP could be having an allergic reaction or a bug. We thought it was a bug but I don't think it was as me or DS didn't get it. On Friday last week DP started vomiting again and feeling really sick same on sat.

I don't think this was a bug either as me or son haven't got it.

Partner still doesn't feel good and he can't eat because if he eats he vomits even if it's toast. He can still drink though.

He can't go to college either. This morning he called GP and was on a wait for a call back and they said they don't have any appointments until the end of the month.

Would he bu to go to A & E. Does any of you know what it could be? Or experienced this?

This really isn’t a case for A&E - you readily admit you would be happy for it to be treated by a GP if you could get an appointment so you know yourself this isn’t an emergency. If you can’t get a GP appt then call 111 and ask for a referral to the nearest walk in centre or emergency GP.

Span1elsRock · 11/09/2019 19:42

If he's been eating OK in between OP I'd say he's been very unlucky and has picked another bug up.

Keep trying to eat is the worst thing you can do, you need to rest your stomach. Flat full sugar coke should help and water - little but often.

Todaythiscouldbe · 11/09/2019 19:58

Have you phoned 111?

Kiwidenter · 11/09/2019 20:22

Yes he phoned 111

Normally when he gets a bug i occasionally get it and son always gets it.

He hasn't eaten since yesterday morning but still feels really sick

So what has 111 advised?

apacketofcrisps · 11/09/2019 20:30

So have 111 sorted him to see someone? What have they said? @Kiwidenter

timshelthechoice · 11/09/2019 20:31

It's entirely to get a bug and no one else in the family does. The vomiting with no accompanying pain can be many things so 111 is the way to go.

Tyjaro75 · 11/09/2019 20:34

111 should be able to get you and emergency appointment but it might be in a different area. That’s what they arranged for me recently.

Kiwidenter · 11/09/2019 20:42

111 advised to call GP tomorrow first thing again or go to walk in centre

OP posts:
timshelthechoice · 11/09/2019 20:46

Sounds spot on advice. Get an emergency appointment at the the GP surgery and just take whatever, even if it's the practice nurse or physician assistant because that person will immediately consult the GP if need be. He needs to keep sipping clear fluids to keep hydrated.

apacketofcrisps · 11/09/2019 20:55

Then it definitely doesn’t need a&e!

inwood · 11/09/2019 21:21

It's not an accident and not an emergency, therefore no a and e!

callmeadoctor · 11/09/2019 22:10

So hmmmm, get a taxi to walk in centre, like 111 advised?

Blahblahblahnanana · 12/09/2019 01:39

@Kiwidenter did he tell 111 that he can’t get an appointment at the doctors? He needs to ring the doctors as soon as they open usually at 8am to be able to get a same day appointment, and tell them he’s contacted 111 and they said he needs to see a doctor.

Or, get his dad to take him to out of hours.

Kiwidenter · 12/09/2019 07:43

He's going to call GP at 8 when they open. If not walk in centre

OP posts:
FenellaMaxwell · 12/09/2019 07:44

Thank you for not taking up a space at A&E

FenellaMaxwell · 12/09/2019 07:44

Hope he feels lots better soon!

YeahNahWhal · 12/09/2019 08:19

Has he taken an antihistamine? That should help rule out allergic reaction vs viral infection.

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2019 08:25

You’re vastly overestimating the power of antihistamines.

Who called him back and said they didn’t have an appointment for a month? Was that a doctor?

YeahNahWhal · 12/09/2019 08:26

You’re vastly overestimating the power of antihistamines.

Surely it's worth trying when the alternative is an appointment a fortnight from now?

lilypips · 12/09/2019 08:30

There is nothing to point to an allergic reaction. He was sick, possible bug, possibly ate something bad in August and almost 2 weeks later was sick again. OP has given no indication of any other symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction.

Sore head and sickness indicates a possible migraine. Or maybe he just had a big or ate something and the headache was coincidence.

Tbh I wouldn't even see the GP over it let alone consider A&E

Kiwidenter · 12/09/2019 08:30

The receptionist called him back and said she spoke to the doctor and that he doesn't have any appointments until the end of the month and no other doctors do either.

He called GP when they opened and they put him down for a call back.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2019 08:30

Sorry l, should have been clearer. Antihistamines might help, but the viral infections are also short lived so it would be pretty much impossible to say whether the underlying issue was an allergy or a viral infection.

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2019 08:32

The receptionist called him back and said she spoke to the doctor and that he doesn't have any appointments until the end of the month and no other doctors do either.

I’m surprised by this. Call backs are usually handled by a medical professional (doctor or triage nurse) because they know what to ask to see if someone needs to be seen more quickly that in a months time. If that happens again, he needs to insist on speaking to a doctor, not second hand through a receptionist.

OctopusNow · 12/09/2019 08:42

Doctors appointments are incredibly hard to come by here too.
It's always "We have nothing for 3-4 weeks" I figure I'll either be dead or better by then!

It's only going to get worse as there are hundreds of new houses going up but still only one surgery and no walk in clinic at all.
