To go to A & E for this

So I posted on the 28th of August to see DP could be having an allergic reaction or a bug. We thought it was a bug but I don't think it was as me or DS didn't get it. On Friday last week DP started vomiting again and feeling really sick same on sat.

I don't think this was a bug either as me or son haven't got it.

Partner still doesn't feel good and he can't eat because if he eats he vomits even if it's toast. He can still drink though.

He can't go to college either. This morning he called GP and was on a wait for a call back and they said they don't have any appointments until the end of the month.

Would he bu to go to A & E. Does any of you know what it could be? Or experienced this?

I also vomited periodically due to a dodgy gallbladder. I first thought I had food poisoning. I also had awful nausea, belching and feeling full right away (didn't lose weight because I also had dire bloating). He needs to see a GP, not go to A&E.

OMGshefoundmeout · 11/09/2019 15:56

Lol at not believing three weeks for a gp appointment. That’s absolutely bog standard at our GP practice. My mentally ill, suicidal, sister had a regular check up cancelled and was told it was 10 weeks until she could be seen again.

msmith501 · 11/09/2019 15:59

Receptionists, although sometimes coming over as a bit bossy, only follow instructions but one if those instructions will be to admit anyone who states / insists that they need to see the doctor immediately. It's the same as just turning up and refusing to move until you have been assessed.

TheMustressMhor · 11/09/2019 16:01

Norovirus can go on for several days.

Get some anti-emetics from the pharmacist for him.

Definitely not A & E.

lilypips · 11/09/2019 16:02

A&E isn't a replacement for your car ffs

timshelthechoice · 11/09/2019 16:04

I can't believe anyone is told to wait almost three weeks for a gp appointment confused

Oh, they most certainly are! And sometimes to even see a nurse.

OP, has he rung and asked to see a practice nurse? I'd go with that first.

Average waiting time here is about 4 weeks.

If it were me I would ring 111 after 6pm and try and get an out of hours doctors appointment. if no luck then ring GP tomorrow and say you need to be seen urgently.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 11/09/2019 16:10

Walk in?

That would be good going around this area, and being told "emergency appointments are for children only" is quite common

BritInUS1 · 11/09/2019 16:14

Agree not A&E - either out of hours of ask GP for an emergency appointment

callmeadoctor · 11/09/2019 16:14

Alternatively get a taxi to walk in centre. (Or maybe a friend can give him a lift)

Kiwidenter · 11/09/2019 16:15

He phoned GP as soon as it opened but they do call backs at our GP (to stop people not turning up to appointment probably or using them if not needed) but they called him back about lunch time and said he had no appointments until the end of the month and he asked if anyone else had any and he said no.

My partner isn't usually the person who wants an appointment and doesn't usually get ill and if he does he doesn't go to the GP or anywhere.

OP posts:
ButterflyOne1 · 11/09/2019 16:19

Get a taxi or ask someone else to take to the walk in centre, please don't waste A&E time. Plus if it is contagious, you may infect some vulnerable people.

timshelthechoice · 11/09/2019 16:20

He's not A&E ill, OP, you're asking to use it because your car is in the garage. It's possible he even had one bug, licked it and then got another one. Bet you wouldn't even entertain this idea if you had to pay for it at point of service.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/09/2019 16:22

A&E isn't a replacement for your car ffs

The OP isn't suggesting it is. But in the absence of access to a GP for a condition which has persisted through weeks and where the patient can't keep any food down for the last 5 days, then A&E is likely to bear the brunt.

If they call 111 that is the most likely advice given the absence of a GP service within that timeline.

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 11/09/2019 16:22

It's not an emergency so not an a&e visit. Could he have an allergy to something? Dairy? Wheat? Something that has suddenly come about and developed?
If he can keep fluids down then he'll be fine for now.
See your pharmacist. People dismiss these professionals just for filling out medicines but they are excellent for general stuff like this. They can give great advice and information.

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 11/09/2019 16:26

Though it's more than 5 days now.
Has he not managed to keep any good down at all? Has he got diarrhoea as well as vomiting?

recrudescence · 11/09/2019 16:26

I’d go to the surgery and insist on being seen.

BogglesGoggles · 11/09/2019 16:26

@Juells I literally couldn’t get an appointment at all when I lived in London. Pretty common in the NHS unfortunately.

If he can’t walk/starts fainting take him to A&E. Make sure someone sees him by the end of the month becausethis just isn’t normal.

Kiwidenter · 11/09/2019 16:26

He is allergic to dairy but he hasn't had dairy recently. And If he does accidently have dairy an allergic reaction only lasts about a day.

I didn't say A & E was a replacement for my car

OP posts:
timshelthechoice · 11/09/2019 16:29

What do you expect them to do? Because they might well say to see your GP. Seriously he hasn't rung to see a nurse at least, or asked the pharmacist.

apacketofcrisps · 11/09/2019 16:31

Call 111.

Cherrypurple · 11/09/2019 16:32

I have a friend who is hospitalised currently with what she thought was just bad morning sickness in early pregnancy, turns out there was something wrong with her gallbladder. It could be that? I would call out of hours instead of going to A&E

lilypips · 11/09/2019 16:35

I didn't say A & E was a replacement for my car

Not in so many words. You did say it was in walking distance and the walk in centre is 15 miles away and the car is in the garage. So it amounts to the same thing.

The decision between A&E and walk in centre should be based on medical need, not the fact that the car is off the road.

redchocolatebutton · 11/09/2019 16:35

he needs to see a dr.
not wanting to scare you but a relative had kidney issues following a stomach bug. symptoms were similar to your dp.
relative is all fine now, but recovery took a few months.
