Interested to know what the "normal" amount is, I'm starting to budget for Christmas Blush our wider family seems to be extending drastically and I'm currently under redundancy consultation so slightly bricking it, as my payout will be bugger all if it does go ahead.

£15 per head here.

Marmite27 · 10/09/2019 18:11

£20 each

JadziaSnax · 10/09/2019 18:11

£15 - £20 usually.

wurlycurly · 10/09/2019 18:12

20 ish

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/09/2019 18:13

About £25 at Christmas, more on birthdays depending on what they want.

EnglishRose13 · 10/09/2019 18:14

Usually £75 each on my niece and nephew between myself and my brother (not their father).

OrangeJustice · 10/09/2019 18:15

It was £10 each but they’re all over 18 now so I’ve stopped buying for them.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 10/09/2019 18:16

Nothing. We agreed a few years ago to stop buying for extended family and everyone was relieved about it.

RobinHumphries · 10/09/2019 18:16

£30ish unless it’s a special birthday

Alicealicewhothe · 10/09/2019 18:17

How old are your nieces and nephews? When I grew up even just those Cadbury chocolate selection packs when down a treat at xmas time and then proper presents for birthdays as they are spread throughout the year.

easyandy101 · 10/09/2019 18:17

We do a secret Santa for Christmas but for birthdays approx 20-30

SummerHouse · 10/09/2019 18:18

£5 - £10. And we sometimes call a present truce at Christmas. The have loads and they get loads. There's no way I would expect or want presents from someone who has an uncertain financial situation.

Alternatively there are deals to be had. Monopoly Deal (card game like Uno) is about £5 in Asda but £8 in Sainsbury's for example. Home bargains and B and M also ripe for deals.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/09/2019 18:18

Usually €30 euro per child for Birthdays, they give the same to mine.
It is frustrating I am always left short to do family things at Christmas even with planning, there are 10 nieces and nephews in total.
7 DC on my side including mine, for them we all put in €150 each per family x 4 split the 600 cash between 7.
I only said to Dsis it is getting ridiculous with birthday presents and Christmas.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/09/2019 18:18

About £75 for Christmas and about £50 for a birthday. However, I've only got one DN. The more kids there are, the less money there is to go round, so the budget needs to be tweaked accordingly.

ifoundthebread · 10/09/2019 18:19

I try not have a specific number but something they would like within reason. Some years this has been 2/3 small £3/4 gifts and others 1 £45 gift. I suggest you mention to others in your expanding family that things are getting a bit stretched and where is everyone wanting to draw the line on buying gifts, chances are others will want to stop buying for extended family

Qwerty19 · 10/09/2019 18:19

I stopped for that reason on my side. My DB had 6 kids. (well 3 and 3 dsd), so. I'd buy all the same.
I only. Buy for dh 2x dn but normally. A tenner voucher and a mini choc hamper.. At their request as aparantly I make good ones lol

Boobiliboobiliboo · 10/09/2019 18:19

Zero.

Only buy a couple of small bits for DD9 (£50 max) and blow the rest on a holiday to somewhere that doesn’t celebrate Xmas.

Spend zero on anyone else. Don’t buy Xmas cards or other tat and don’t get any from other people. We have a cooked dinner and some mince pies sometime in January.

It’s bloody brilliant.

ElizaDee · 10/09/2019 18:20

About £30 for the older 3, the other 2 are babies so a bit less for them.

SuperSara · 10/09/2019 18:21

£50 birthdays, £100 Christmas.

Yes, I know it's ridiculous. Even more so given that the youngest is 19 now!

It's silly but I'm not sure how to put a stop to it; there are brothers and sisters of different ages involved so do we stop doing it across the board all at the same time, or stop when each reaches a particular age, or what.

Luckily we can easily afford it so it's easier to just keep doing it at the moment.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 10/09/2019 18:22

Why more for Xmas (made up celebration) than for their own birthdays (individual?)

OhDearyMeWhatNow · 10/09/2019 18:23

Depends on how many you have!!!

ElizaDee · 10/09/2019 18:23

We do secret Santa for the adults in my family though so I only need to buy 2 presents and we set a price limit. Last yr with dh's family we agreed no gifts except for the kids.

Stardustmoon · 10/09/2019 18:24

£15 each. Would do more but I have too many to buy for!

SummerHouse · 10/09/2019 18:25

boobilaboo I wanna be like you ooh ooh ooh!
