Interested to know what the "normal" amount is, I'm starting to budget for Christmas Blush our wider family seems to be extending drastically and I'm currently under redundancy consultation so slightly bricking it, as my payout will be bugger all if it does go ahead.

Between £20-£30.

bridgetreilly · 10/09/2019 20:43

I only have two. £20-30 on each, usually.

Laniakea · 10/09/2019 20:49

I have three & budget £30 for birthdays & Christmas (mine are all older teens/young adults).

mummyof2boys30 · 10/09/2019 20:50

I had kids first so just spend what they spend on my kids lol. So £30 on niece (brother child) and £20 on nephew (SIL child)

Idontwanttotalk · 10/09/2019 20:51

About £60 each (covers a toy plus something to wear). I only have to buy for 3 young nieces and Nephews although I have 4. One is much older and at 18 we were told not to buy for him anymore as they have a policy in his family of no presents once you reach that age.

bluechameleon · 10/09/2019 20:52

About £100. There's only 1 and unlikely to be any more.

elQuintoConyo · 10/09/2019 20:53

Nothing at Christmas. About €60 for birthdays. Suits everyone.

TeuchterTraveller · 10/09/2019 20:54

£20 - £30, stop buying after their 18th birthday.

SewButtons · 10/09/2019 20:54

Somewhere between £50-£100 depending on what he needs/wants. I only have one nephew though and no children of my own yet so can afford to spend a bit more on him than I would otherwise.

Dieu · 10/09/2019 21:00

£40 each, for birthdays and Christmases.

KatyaK · 10/09/2019 21:04

£50/60 ish, but I only have one nephew and one niece (and no DC of my own yet!)

Dieu · 10/09/2019 21:10

I absolutely do not understand those who get them nothing. A big family day out instead of presents for the children?! Sounds like an adult decision if ever there was one Hmm Odd.

FantasticPhyllis · 10/09/2019 21:11

£5 max, less if I can (second hand is very acceptable in my family). I have over 10 niece and nephews.

Heartofglass12345 · 10/09/2019 21:16

£20-£30, I only buy for my niece and nephew that I'm really close too though (and now they're both working they buy for me Grin) and my sisters buy for me and my boys
On my husbands side there are our 2 boys, SIL 2 boys and BIL 2 boys and they agreed to just buy for the children. We spend around £20 on each of them too.

Heartofglass12345 · 10/09/2019 21:18

I don't get not buying presents for adults either, it's a bit miserable Sad

dollydaydream114 · 10/09/2019 21:21

£30 at Christmas and £40 on their birthdays. I suspect their other aunt (my sister) spends way more but she’s always been OTT in everything.

I no longer buy presents for the oldest two as they’re now in their early 20s and working and also I have never had so much as a card from either of them

Lucindainthesky · 10/09/2019 21:21

£50 however I only have one nephew. If there were more it would certainly be less each

Ellabella989 · 10/09/2019 21:22

About £70 each for birthdays and Christmases. I’ve only got two nieces though and no kids of my own

Tatum1234 · 10/09/2019 21:23

Nothing as I have 27 of them and it would cost a fortune!

darkriver19886 · 10/09/2019 21:23

Nothing. I want to start though.

Blankscreen · 10/09/2019 21:26

We do 25- 30 per child. I have to buy for 4 of them .

The parents don't buy for each other at crimbo but we do for birthdays though.

A big family day out instead of presents for the children?! Sounds like an adult decision if ever there was one hmm Odd.

My six nieces and nephews have nine sets of aunts and uncles and four sets of grandparents between them and, if anyone suggested it, would absolutely jump at the chance to go to a theme park instead of getting extra presents. On their mum’s side of the family they mostly get bought very generic stuff that they’re not at all bothered about. Whereas they only rarely get to have a family day out.

My sister has asked them outright before if they’d prefer a present or a day at the zoo/Legoland/water park and they invariably say the day out.

Aprillygirl · 10/09/2019 21:33

Around $20 for the younger ones and 30ish for the grown up ones, though I'm thinking of not bothering with the two adult ones anymore as they never so much as text a thank you Hmm

Mlou32 · 10/09/2019 21:54

Before I had my current job and therefore a decent income, 15/20 quid. Now, maybe 50-100 quid. I don't have a set amount, I just pick up whatever I think she'll like. I would add though that everyone is different and everyone has different financial circumstances. 5 quid or 500 quid, it honestly is the thought that matters.

notso · 10/09/2019 21:54

£30ish for my side, £15-£20 for DH's side.
