Interested to know what the "normal" amount is, I'm starting to budget for Christmas Blush our wider family seems to be extending drastically and I'm currently under redundancy consultation so slightly bricking it, as my payout will be bugger all if it does go ahead.

Under 10 - £10. Over 10 - £20 - £30. Now they're over 30 and earn way more than I do - nothing.

73Sunglasslover · 10/09/2019 18:26

Around £15. More for their 18th but will stop when they get to 21 I think.

Shmithecat2 · 10/09/2019 18:27

£30 - £50 each.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 10/09/2019 18:28

Anywhere between £100 and £150 for a normal birthday and Christmas.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 10/09/2019 18:28

Have no niece or nephews but have 3 godsons that I usually spend around £50-70 on depending on what they’re into, the oldest is 7 now so getting into playing the PlayStation so not sure if I’ll up it or not. Yes I know it’s excessive but I can afford it, I just love Christmas!

Smellybluecheese · 10/09/2019 18:28

£35 each for birthday and Christmas. It was £30 for years but we recently adjusted for inflation. There are 9 of them so it adds up. Once over 18 they join the family secret Santa for Xmas so that helps.

Ohyesiam · 10/09/2019 18:30

£10 till they are 18

Equimum · 10/09/2019 18:32

Around £10. They are 2 & 4

SuzieQ10 · 10/09/2019 18:32

Birthdays about £15-£20. And Christmas is less, we have a £5 per child rule due to some family members struggling with Xmas costs in recent years. And there are a lot of children to buy for, as the extended family (cousin's children) are treated the same, as we all get together on the same day. We also do a whole family activity such as go to the theatre or something which can cost a bit.

Lamentations · 10/09/2019 18:34

Usually about £50. Started when I only had two but now there's four I wish I hadn't spent so much.

TheRebelAlliance · 10/09/2019 18:34

One side £30 cash to £60 gift
Other side £50 cash to £700 gift once

Cornishmum00 · 10/09/2019 18:35

Around £15 each i have 4 dn all under 18, presents in my extended family stop at 18

justmyview · 10/09/2019 18:38

£20 per person for birthday, same for Christmas

It's all Amazon vouchers now, which I'm kind of OK with, but also seems a bit pointless when I receive the same from them !

highheelsandbobblehats · 10/09/2019 18:38

We cap it at £10 per child. Though one SIL and I have stopped it now. As the DC get older, it's harder finding things that they'll like for under £10. My eldest nephew is 13 and I've been hoping his for a couple of years as he only wanted PS4 vouchers and they start at £15. None of the DC have noticed. We don't live locally to each other.

My other SIL and I still do it. Still £10 per head. We just put the cash in each others account for the child on their birthday. That way we can either contribute but to a bigger gift, get them something on their behalf, or give them the cash. We're pretty laid back about it.

81Byerley · 10/09/2019 18:43

We are pensioners, on a very low income. For Christmas we give money to each of our children, £10 for each person in the family. They usually spend it on a day out rather than more "things". If you are hard up, I think it's entirely reasonable to say so, and just to send cards. I'd never have minded when my children were small.

gingerbiscuits · 10/09/2019 18:44

We made an agreement years ago that it was to be £20 which stops when they're 18yrs old & we've stuck to it ever since. Families are SO expensive! I always feel a teeny tiny bit peeved that we only have 1 child (wanted more but couldn't) & ALL the rest of the family have multiples, so we spend a bloody fortune compared to some of them.

thecalmorchid · 10/09/2019 18:46

£15 per head per occasion. Might be £20 for a special birthday.
There are a lot of children to buy for and this seems fair.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 10/09/2019 18:50

Around £20.

BoudicasBoudoir · 10/09/2019 18:50

£25 per child each Christmas and birthday. There are four of them. All under 18... I may stop then.

Popsicle434544 · 10/09/2019 18:57

I only have 1 neice and spend around £100-£150 on her, reason so much is i have 5 children and my brother has always given them £30-£40 each.
My eldest is now 20 and this year i told my db just a small token gift for her

georgialondon · 10/09/2019 19:02

£20 each. We purposely keep it low budget for all.

PhantomErik · 10/09/2019 19:03

About £20-£25 each

Septembersunrays · 10/09/2019 19:03

Op in our family two aunts, one blood one not,
Zilch. Both top earners, no dc of their own and v wealthy.

Clockworkprincess · 10/09/2019 19:09

I have a budget of between 20 - 40 for each. I deal with my side and dp deals with his side. I will have a hunt around for bargains but will try to get something they like. Its getting harder now one is getting older as they are into games etc but youngest is still easy.

Gillian1980 · 10/09/2019 19:11

About £20..... we currently only have one nephew and one niece.
