Online order - two items received

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 13:38

So I ordered a large (5ft) stuffed cuddly toy online for my baby's nursery (first baby due in January). It arrived in a damaged delivery box which my builder signed for (I was at work at the time). I opened it a couple of days later and realised inside the box there were two of the same item! I emailed the company to advise of this and never got a reply! Two weeks later I received a call from the company advising that they were aware I had received two items and I needed to send one back. I reminded them it was their mistake and they would have to collect it! They told me I would need to be in during the week as their courier only collects Monday to Friday but again, I told them this was their mistake and as I work I would not be taking a day off work to wait in. They asked me to take the item to my local post office or to a family member's house for the courier to collect but I refused as the item wouldn't fit in my small car and my family live miles away. I no longer had the delivery box as it was damaged when it arrived and I had further damaged it upon opening it. I told them this and they said they would send another box and would contact me regarding when they had found a courier that could come at a weekend. I received an empty box a week later but it's too small for the item to fit in! I emailed them again advising of this and again, no reply! I then got another call today from them (3 weeks after the first call) saying that they wanted to collect the item and I would need to be in during the week. Again I told them I couldn't! I also only have one neighbour who is elderly and often out so I didn't want to burden them! They then said I had been fraudulent in accepting two of the same items (1- I didn't sign for the delivery and 2 - even if I had, how was I to know that there would be two items in the giant box?). They said that they didn't believe me that two items were in the one box and they said they must have sent me two boxes! I told them to check with the courier that only one box was delivered if they didn't believe me and they said this was information the courier wouldn't know! They then said I had done nothing to advise them that I had received two of the same item and when I told them I had emailed them 3 times they claimed that they didn't receive any of them! I forwarded the email chain to them again while I was on the phone to them and double checked the email address with them but they said they still haven't got them! I told them they are being unreasonable as I had tried to resolve it and they were trying to inconvenience me for their mistake and they are calling me back later with a 'resolution'.

Personally if I had only been charged for one, I wouldn't have bothered mentioning it - mainly for the above reasons.

YANBU to not want to be put out for their error.

HarryYerAWizard · 10/09/2019 13:50

I would just forward all the correspondence to the owner/CEO depending how big the company is and ask them to deal with it. Set out your terms eg. I will be in on x date for it to be collected.

Bloody awful customer service. For all the time and money this has cost the company, not to mention presumably losing you as a customer, it would’ve been more beneficial for them to say sorry for the inconvenience, please donate it to charity or keep it.

inwood · 10/09/2019 13:51

I wouldn't have said anything tbh.

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 13:52

Thank you. I wasn't going to say anything but due to the size of the item I knew they'd soon realise! And they did because they claim to have never received any of my emails! Food advise re contacting the director/ceo! Doing that now! Thanks again

Personally Id email and tell them that it is their problem, not yours. Tell them when and where they can collect it, and if they fail to do so you will consider the matter to be dealt with and will donate it to a charity as it is taking up far too much space in your home and they have had ample opportunity to rectify a problem they are responsible for.

Cheeky feckers.

Luckymama2014 · 10/09/2019 15:40

if they didnt receive your emails why did they ring you? clearly they got them and trying to put it on you. Enjoy your two teddys.

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 16:33

So they've come back to me asking me when I'm next due to take annual leave so they can send a courier on that day or if I can take annual leave so I'm at home! They've also suggested I start work early and finish early one day! Who do these people think I am? I had emailed the directors and the normal customer service person responded! I don't really know what to do now!

Do you have Twitter? If you take it there, they will usually do something. Surprised the owner doesn’t care, they sound really shit. What company is it?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 10/09/2019 17:12

I'd ask for the CEO'S email and also threaten to go to the daily mail (DM probably wouldn't be interested but the threat will shit em up)

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 10/09/2019 17:13

Dont most major couriers operate at weekends?

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 17:49

I have Twitter but unfortunately they don't! Yes I did outline to them that there were lots of courier companies but they have to use their own one they have a contract with apparently!

I've read the reviews online and they get only 1 star with most reviewers! Looks like they owe lots of customers money. Maybe I'll suggest I sell the item and forward the money onto one of their customers that is owed it Grin

colourlessgreenidea · 10/09/2019 17:52

Go on, name them! Grin

ProhibitedRodent · 10/09/2019 17:54

Just ignore them and donate it. They are unlikely to pursue you for it. If they do you can prove you tried to rectify the issue. Although there's actually nothing they can do!

bridgetreilly · 10/09/2019 17:55

I'm not sure what you actually want them to do, though, if you can't be there for a pick up and you're also unable to drop the parcel off. How are they magically supposed to get the item returned?

Theneverendingcleaningcycle · 10/09/2019 18:08

I would suggest emailing and refusing any over the phone conversation. Just so there is a paper trail.
Appalling customer service. Do they not have any social media channel?
Name them OP

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 18:14

@bridgetreilly when did I say I couldn't be there for a pick up? I've told them I can do Saturday and Sunday.

I don't know if I should name them!

They might have Facebook but I don't have Facebook (deleted it a year or so ago).

Tippety · 10/09/2019 18:16

Haha go on, name them :D

Tippety · 10/09/2019 18:17

Is it a really popular company, or one seen advertising themselves on Instagram etc?

EnglishRose13 · 10/09/2019 18:18

Name them!

terriblyangryattimes · 10/09/2019 18:20

I can't get over the fact anyone would willingly order a stuffed toy that's 5ft tall misses the point entirely

I'd ignore them until they find a weekend courier and just hand the thing over without a box 🤷‍♀️

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 10/09/2019 18:20

Please name so we can all avoid!

InterestingView · 10/09/2019 18:21

Just ignore. They'll soon give up.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/09/2019 18:23

I’d give them one more chance and then stop responding

Make sure you check your bank statements and if they try and charge you again, do a charge back with your bank

Name and shame OP for sure. Cheeky fucks

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 18:26

@terriblyangryattimes haha! Guilty 🙋🏻‍♀️

The first part of the company name begins with the name of a well know taxi company and the second part of the company name is the name of a baby goat. Saying no more
