Online order - two items received

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 13:38

So I ordered a large (5ft) stuffed cuddly toy online for my baby's nursery (first baby due in January). It arrived in a damaged delivery box which my builder signed for (I was at work at the time). I opened it a couple of days later and realised inside the box there were two of the same item! I emailed the company to advise of this and never got a reply! Two weeks later I received a call from the company advising that they were aware I had received two items and I needed to send one back. I reminded them it was their mistake and they would have to collect it! They told me I would need to be in during the week as their courier only collects Monday to Friday but again, I told them this was their mistake and as I work I would not be taking a day off work to wait in. They asked me to take the item to my local post office or to a family member's house for the courier to collect but I refused as the item wouldn't fit in my small car and my family live miles away. I no longer had the delivery box as it was damaged when it arrived and I had further damaged it upon opening it. I told them this and they said they would send another box and would contact me regarding when they had found a courier that could come at a weekend. I received an empty box a week later but it's too small for the item to fit in! I emailed them again advising of this and again, no reply! I then got another call today from them (3 weeks after the first call) saying that they wanted to collect the item and I would need to be in during the week. Again I told them I couldn't! I also only have one neighbour who is elderly and often out so I didn't want to burden them! They then said I had been fraudulent in accepting two of the same items (1- I didn't sign for the delivery and 2 - even if I had, how was I to know that there would be two items in the giant box?). They said that they didn't believe me that two items were in the one box and they said they must have sent me two boxes! I told them to check with the courier that only one box was delivered if they didn't believe me and they said this was information the courier wouldn't know! They then said I had done nothing to advise them that I had received two of the same item and when I told them I had emailed them 3 times they claimed that they didn't receive any of them! I forwarded the email chain to them again while I was on the phone to them and double checked the email address with them but they said they still haven't got them! I told them they are being unreasonable as I had tried to resolve it and they were trying to inconvenience me for their mistake and they are calling me back later with a 'resolution'.

I'm amazed you bought a 5ft teddy!

Did you buy it via Amazon / ebay? Their customer service will fix it for you. Otherwise I'd warn your bank not to take any extra transactions from these people and let them know some dates to collect, then ignore any other responses apart from reiterating "no, you need to send a bigger box for the return. If you do that then you can collect on Saturday 21st or 28th before 2pm".

HarryYerAWizard · 10/09/2019 18:31

Was it the massive giraffe?!

Email back, say you’re happy to wait in on x date, happy to cut the toy into pieces to make it fit in the box or happy to keep it and which would they prefer. They’re being ridiculous!

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 10/09/2019 18:36

I'd email back and say that they are wasting your time and you're not going to continue communicating with them any more. Say that they can send you an appropriate sized box within the next week, and collect the parcel this insert weekend day here between the hours of insert convenient time here, and if they fail to collect it then you will throw out the item as it is large and taking up space in your house. It is their own incompetence that got them into this situation and they can either sort it out promptly or choose not to, but that you're not going to be inconvenienced by them any more.

BentNeckLady · 10/09/2019 18:42

Get them to collect it from where you work?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 10/09/2019 18:45

Is the company name two words? If so, they do have Twitter, there's a link to it at the bottom of their homepage.

TinyMystery · 10/09/2019 18:48

Tell them they can collect it on X date or you will start charging rent 😂

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 18:48

Unfortunately the item won't fit in my tiny car so I can't transport it anywhere! 🙈

Ah so they do have a Twitter! I had literally searched on Twitter and nothing came up but I've found the link from the webpage! Thanks @TimeIhadaNameChange

18:42BentNeckLady she's already says it won't fit in her car

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 10/09/2019 18:52

They then said I had been fraudulent in accepting two of the same items

This is when I'd have told them where to go!

sittingonacornflake · 10/09/2019 18:57

@Icantthinkofanynewnames you've got it spot on. The CFs can easily instruct a courier to collect it on the weekend. Give them a deadline to do so and then donate to charity. I'd also suggest invoicing them for storage costs Grin

TimeIhadaNameChange · 10/09/2019 19:00

No problem, @kittycat01!

In comparison, when I got two carpet cleaners ten years ago Vax were quite taken aback I'd even let them know, and had no problem with rearranging the courier at a time it suited me. (Shame I didn't keep it, actually, as ours broke a few years later!)

L0bstersLass · 10/09/2019 19:13

No, you're not being unreasonable.
They've cocked up and it's them that should be inconvenienced in order to fix the situation, not you.

Lunafortheloveogod · 10/09/2019 19:15

If it’s 5ft tall and won’t fit in your car.. how do you fit in your car. Mash it in the back with the seats down? Could you get the to pick it up from your work if you could get it there?

Celticrose · 10/09/2019 19:30

I ordered crockery from M& S and received among the items two white dinner plates instead of the two small bowls. Phoned customer services and was advised to keep the plates and they would reorder the bowls at no further cost to me. (I think the plates were £5 each) I find that I use these plates before the ones that I bought.

NoFucksImAQueen · 10/09/2019 19:32

uber kids?

NoFucksImAQueen · 10/09/2019 19:35

Luna if its the giraffe I'm guessing its rigid and cant "sit' is would be awkward to put in the car

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 19:37

@Lunafortheloveogod I've already said I can't get it to work! I don't have a car you can put the seats down or boot cover down because I only have a two seater! And I am not lying, I shit you not the item does not fit in the car and is rigid so can't be bent into a better position!

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 10/09/2019 19:42

Is it the massive tiger on Uber Kids?

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 10/09/2019 19:43

oh come on OP, you bought a SOFT toy that's so rigid it won't go in a two seater...good luck with the pram and the baby hun!
What is it stuffed with? Bricks?? How cuddly is it?

I got a three quarter sized mannequin in my MX5, and it was pissing rain so the roof was on! And I only realised when I got her out of the car that her arms came off.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/09/2019 19:44

That’s bloody annoying. You’ve done the right and honest thing and now they’re being dicks about it. I’d offer them a couple of half days that are convenient and then say beyond then you will dispose of it. You could tell them what your daily rate for staying in is.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/09/2019 19:46

I had a two seater sportscar when I was pregnant. Once the baby was 6 weeks old and I could drive again, I got a family car. I wouldn’t have wanted to wrestle with some enormous cuddly toy when pregnant or even now

Gustavo1 · 10/09/2019 19:51

In my opinion, regardless of whether you could squish, bend or squish the item to get it in your car, why should you?
You ordered one. They sent two. It’s their mistake and they were lucky that you were honest about having it. You could very easily have kept quiet and denied ever having received more than one.
I agree with the pp that you email once more to say an appropriate size box must be delivered and the item will then be available for collection on Saturday x date between 9-7. You are not going to take annual leave to facilitate this. What a ridiculous suggestion!

NoFucksImAQueen · 10/09/2019 19:52

holy shit theres a tiger too! goes back off to search

BentNeckLady · 10/09/2019 19:54

How big was the box these two things came in that you could fit in your house and not open for two days? Shock

NoFucksImAQueen · 10/09/2019 19:54

theres also a giant flamingo that looks like it stood on a surfboard, this is amazing 😁
