Online order - two items received

So I ordered a large (5ft) stuffed cuddly toy online for my baby's nursery (first baby due in January). It arrived in a damaged delivery box which my builder signed for (I was at work at the time). I opened it a couple of days later and realised inside the box there were two of the same item! I emailed the company to advise of this and never got a reply! Two weeks later I received a call from the company advising that they were aware I had received two items and I needed to send one back. I reminded them it was their mistake and they would have to collect it! They told me I would need to be in during the week as their courier only collects Monday to Friday but again, I told them this was their mistake and as I work I would not be taking a day off work to wait in. They asked me to take the item to my local post office or to a family member's house for the courier to collect but I refused as the item wouldn't fit in my small car and my family live miles away. I no longer had the delivery box as it was damaged when it arrived and I had further damaged it upon opening it. I told them this and they said they would send another box and would contact me regarding when they had found a courier that could come at a weekend. I received an empty box a week later but it's too small for the item to fit in! I emailed them again advising of this and again, no reply! I then got another call today from them (3 weeks after the first call) saying that they wanted to collect the item and I would need to be in during the week. Again I told them I couldn't! I also only have one neighbour who is elderly and often out so I didn't want to burden them! They then said I had been fraudulent in accepting two of the same items (1- I didn't sign for the delivery and 2 - even if I had, how was I to know that there would be two items in the giant box?). They said that they didn't believe me that two items were in the one box and they said they must have sent me two boxes! I told them to check with the courier that only one box was delivered if they didn't believe me and they said this was information the courier wouldn't know! They then said I had done nothing to advise them that I had received two of the same item and when I told them I had emailed them 3 times they claimed that they didn't receive any of them! I forwarded the email chain to them again while I was on the phone to them and double checked the email address with them but they said they still haven't got them! I told them they are being unreasonable as I had tried to resolve it and they were trying to inconvenience me for their mistake and they are calling me back later with a 'resolution'.

Tbh they sent you the item, their error, you shouldn't have to keep messing about or emailing backwards and forwards for their error. Tell them when you are available for it to be picked up, but otherwise, sod it. You've tried your best.

Not sure what you're going to do with a spare 5ft teddy but I guess that's life haha. I'd gladly have it - my partner goes mad when I buy things that he thinks are silly, and this would certainly fit! :)

Could you get the cost of a weekend courier, suitable to you. Then tell them they have to pay up front for you to arrange pick up.
Also, as it will take x hours you expect payment for your time?

Bentapple · 10/09/2019 20:02

I'm sorry this is a problem for them and I'd suggest you cut all contact with them. I had purchased items from mastoorabeauty.com and I recieved free items of a natural lip balm and samples to make up my extra weight in the postage box lol. When I contacted them about the lip balm they stated the above.
I also recieved another order from them which was an error on my part, I had removed the wrong item from the basket and them paid for the item I wanted to remove. They stated they only refund damaged items or errors on their part in an item
But each time I purchased from them hair loss products or body butters etc I always got free items or samples that i can see from their site are expensive and really good quality which has kept me as a customer. I suggest you complain about their customer service and let them know you are terminating all contact with them until an authoritative person contacts you as it's just a huge waste of your time and an emotional burden you dont need.

OP if you want to sell it let me know, DB has always said he'd kill anyone who got his children a giant cuddly toy.... (Please be the flamingo.....)

Moomin8 · 10/09/2019 20:19

Definitely 100% their problem and not yours. They aren't doing their job properly, if they want to collect the wrongly sent item they need to work around you 🤷🏻‍♀️

imamum21 · 10/09/2019 20:24

email this dear company, i have contacted you numerous times to return an item you mistakenly sent but had zero help, i have kept all emails as proof i have sent them, so this will be my final plead for help, you must come and collect your parcel any saturday or sunday but no later than 29/9/19 failure to do so will result in me invoicing you for storage (rent of the cuddly toy) if this is not paid by x date i will seek legal action for unpaid fees, as i have contacted you numerous times and have proof i feel i have a strong case, i will be more than happy to take an unpaid day off from work if you are willing to cover the costs before collecting cuddly toy. if this isnt suitable please let me know i shall donate it to charity!

22Giraffes · 10/09/2019 20:25

Op the only way YABU is if it's a giant giraffe and you haven't sent it to me! Grin
I'd be willing to swap it for one of my children

Biancadelrioisback · 10/09/2019 20:39

Do a live video of you kindly delivering the giant teddy to a big charity shop/event, do lots of "oh thank you for your kind donation [company]"

kittycat01 · 10/09/2019 20:49

Thank you for all your replies! They've certainly entertained me! Unfortunately it isn't the flamingo and yes, it is the giraffe! Not a 'cuddly' toy as such but more a decorative item for the nursery! But LOOK I managed to fit it in my tiny car! Hooray!

I want the giraffe!

HarryYerAWizard · 10/09/2019 20:55

I love it, I just looked at the Melissa and Doug website at all their giant animals, they are amazing! They have so many breeds of dog!

Theneverendingcleaningcycle · 10/09/2019 21:00

Just had a quick look on there twitter. Looks like your best bet is there. Loads of people expressing their dislike of the customer service.

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 10/09/2019 21:30

Uber kids did this to my friend with a car seat. Sent her wrong colour. Wouldn't fix time slot for return courier.

sorrythisusernameisinuse · 10/09/2019 21:34

I would just ignore them now!
