Foxes outside my window

I’ve been lying awake for the last hour thanks to (at least two) foxes making an almighty racket on the street outside my window. The screeching noise they make is horrible! I live in London and there are a lot of foxes, but normally you might hear a minute or two of noise before they run off - it’s very unusual for them to stay in one spot for this long. I have to be up at 6.30 - I wish they’d bugger off!

I'm not sure what the question is

Monty27 · 10/09/2019 05:23

They're mating. Tis the season. It's a horrendous din to be fair. London too. Smile

londoner44 · 10/09/2019 05:26

Tis the season.

I didn’t realise that! How long does “the season” go on for? Confused

We had fox cubs in our front garden last month. My dds riding boots were separated, one on the lawn and then we found one on the road. We couldn’t understand who would move dds boots. I looked at the cctv and watched two fox cubs playing and chasing each other and taking the boots. They must’ve smelt horse on her boots to take them.
Ever since they built behind our house, we haven’t seen any foxes as they had a den there, it’s just housing now.

I’ve been up a lot in the night due to bereavement. A lovely thing is when I look out of my window I very often see a fox turning the corner and strolling down my street here in very central London. I think it’s on a regular run from one square to another via restaurant rubbish bags. Feel a sense of connection. I probably wouldn’t if boots were going missing and that awful mating racket was going on. You have my sympathy.

Monty27 · 10/09/2019 05:44

Oh they like a good chew of shoes or toys even Barbie dolls if they're left out. Even electrical wiring going out to the garage they've had here.
I'm not an expert but I think the mating season lasts a few weeks. The vixen return to the dens and kick out last year's cubs and the young foxes then roam around trying to feed themselves and the cycle goes on.
According to local information around here. That's when the young uns forage for food and make a right mess and the poor binmen refuse disposal officers get the flack.
It's just nature. Smile

Enjoy the nature of it even if they are skanky city ones!

WhyBirdStop · 10/09/2019 07:55

If they kept you up that long it would've been quicker to go out and chase them off... We have to sometimes (because next door's garden is a joke and they live under his half overgrown trampoline)

Clementara21 · 10/09/2019 07:56

If they've been keeping you awake for that long, YABU not to have gone down to chase them off. Problem solved!

SquirmOfEels · 10/09/2019 08:08

You couid try a super soaker water pistol?

The screaming is quite horrible, and a bit alarming until you work out what it is.

I've seen a lot of dead foxes over the course of this year - run over I think, so wondering what's making them lose their London street smarts

Butchyrestingface · 10/09/2019 08:13

You’ve actually asked for a vote on this? Grin

YABU. Foxes are fwends.
