Have you ever lost the meaning of a word? Like if you say it too much it loses meaning?
I've just lost the meaning of my name and it feels so weird.

This probably sounds weird but when I was younger I used to love saying words over and over again (especially names) until they lost their meaning. I was fascinated by how our brains can do that and how like you say we can lose the sense of a word. This thread has made me want to do it again lol.

I used to find some names so funny. Like they didn't really mean anything and were just noises. I can't explain it properly but it was just really odd. I know what you mean and I have never found an explanation for it. Glad it's not just me!

I’ve been called several different nicknames forever and when someone says my name it feels very alien. I know it’s my name by I never think about myself as “Abigail”, I think about my nickname, which is a bit like my surname but not. When people call me by my name it makes sense but doesn’t connect as much if that makes sense at all Confused

Wiki calls it semantic satiation

When I come across someone with the same name as me, I don't think 'she has the same name as me', it seems like a completely different name. I also have an image of a person with this name, but it isn't me!
