If this pill does not contain any oestrogen, why do they contain warnings about clots?
Thanks!

Hmm... interesting thought. I'm not sure. Is your pill desogestral?

Sunshine168 · 07/09/2019 15:48

Just deciding between different ones
(progesterone only) I don’t understand why they all contain the warning
Hopefully someone in the know will come along....👍

It's just because they increase/alter your body's normal amount of hormones. When that happens, unfortunately there are risks for lots of things to happen, including blood clots. Because it alters the way certain glands work which create hormones etc. I was on this pill for a long while and it worked very well for me and I didnt get any side effects.
I then changed to the hormonal coil (mirena coil I think its called), which can stay in for either 5 or 7 tears then you chose to replace or remove. This coil is also progesterone only (as i can only go on these types due to medical conditions) and again it worked very well for me. No periods, no side effects, and didnt have to try and remember to take yet another medication on top of my 100's of others. Good luck choosing OP and if you need any help, I'm a registered nurse so always happy to help or give advice if i can xx

Also, it's not that they cause them, it's just that they increase your risk of them. Also, the risk with the progesterone only pill is smaller than the combined (even the combined one theres only a small risk), and other risk factors play into this, such as weight, if you're not as mobile so sitting for longer periods, smoking status etc. So usually if someone is a smoker or has any added risk factors, they will advise the progesterone only pill. The risk with mirena coil is even less as there are many types if synthetic progesterone and some have a lower risk than others.

Sorry if I went into too much detail, I'm a nightmare for that Haha x

Sorry to derail, butin the same vain , why does it increase your cancer risk? I also thought it was only oestrogen that did this.

Lottieshborn- Thanks- Also, do you think I’d bleed all the time if I tried Levonorgestrel based progesterone only pill? Bled a lot with the other progesterone only pills in the past
Is it worth a try on this one?
