I wouldn’t.

SleepWarrior · 06/09/2019 16:04

I wouldn't - the concern is not that the beans will be off, but rather what extras are present in the sauce that have leeched in from the can if it looks like that.

Knittedfairies · 06/09/2019 16:11

I wouldn't either.

LoudBatPerson · 06/09/2019 16:12

I have seen this happen before, always with tomato and tomato sauce based foods. It seems to be a sort of reaction between the food and can. I don't know what causes it though. If you have it in two tins bought at the same time, presumably from the same batch, there may have been a production issue.

The beans may have a metallic taste, as we had with some tinned tomatoes this happened with. We didn't finish eating them, but I have no idea if it is harmful or not.

adaline · 06/09/2019 16:16

I wouldn't, only because I don't think it would taste very pleasant!

Chupchup · 06/09/2019 16:19

Gutted! 2 multipacks worth. Was supposed to be a cheap dinner night!!!

No, I wouldn't eat them, looks as though there has been an acid reaction in the tin.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/09/2019 16:20

I wouldn't, and I'm not even paranoid about food. I've never seen a tin like that in my life.

AdaColeman · 06/09/2019 16:21

Take those empty tins, and any remaining unopened tins, back to the shop and ask for a refund.

Katinski · 06/09/2019 16:23

The tin should have that "if you're not happy with this product" blah, blah, then contact them. We did that once, not beans, cant remember what it was, but we had a whole low loader (or something) delivered to us as compensation.
The time we bought a box of Spillers Shapes for our little dog, inside the box was just one shape - a baked lump of dough. Huge, it was. And our puppy was ever so little and timid and frightened out of his last wit by the sight of it. ahhhh. Got loads of vouchers for that one.
So, keep the can in case they want it back, and email them.

Ok, the Branston beans tin is black on the bottom. Is this ok? What's going on??

That is adorable.

OP I wouldn't eat that but I would be either taking it back to the shop or writing to the manufacturer. If you need the beans for tonight the shop is probably quicker.

Is this spaghetti hoops tin ok??

The branston ones and the spaghetti look ok. I’ve just opened a tin of beans and sausage and the inside of the tin looks grey with a coating your beans tin doesn’t look like it’s got a coating on it and the tomato sauce has reacted with the tin

Blahblahblahnanana · 06/09/2019 17:19

The beans and sausage tin I’ve opened looks like the bottom of your branston beans tin

Chupchup · 06/09/2019 17:50

Thanks all. I've been refunded, but can't get anyone to tell me if it's safe. What a waste of food brexit stash

Just an FYI: the black is completely harmless and is due to detinning. The contents are safe to eat!

Rubicon80 · 10/09/2019 12:21

Says who? Glad you got a refund.

MRex · 10/09/2019 12:29

What is "detinning"? I've never heard the word before.

CupoTeap · 10/09/2019 12:30

Send them pics and you will get vouchers they'll need the batch details

User3468793 · 10/09/2019 12:52

Watch Steve1989MRE on Youtube. He opens and eats things from tins that are decades old and black/brown/green inside yet miraculously has never gotten sick from it. Gives you a whole new perspective on what is actually safe to eat, especially highly processed long-life foods.

Having said that, I would definitely bin a tin that looks like that!

Chupchup · 10/09/2019 13:22

Heinz rang me. They are sending vouchers!

I just found this when I was cleaning the tins the beans have already been eaten. I’ve tried to scrape the pink off with a spoon and nothing was coming off. Can someone please tell me if it’s just stained from the beans
