Lighthearted really, although I can't stop worrying about the amount of things my 1 year old is afraid of!

The biggest day to day worry for him is ceiling lights! This started a couple of months ago and hasn't gone away yet. We show him how they switch on and off and he seems to even enjoy this sometimes but at other times he can be happily playing and then look up at the light fitting (on or off) and get really upset. When I am carrying him and he is higher up so closer to the lights he clings on to me for dear life. He has started shows signs of being afraid of light fittings when out and about too.
He is also afraid of noises when he can't detect where they are coming from (for example, the sound of the ice cream van outside or when I talk to Alexa and it talks back- I've stopped doing this).
What unfathomable things are your babies afraid of? For those who have been through it, please tell me this will pass. I can't make light fittings go away unfortunately!

For a brief and traumatic period, DS was afraid of plates. I dropped and broke one while washing up and set off a 6 month fear. You try figuring out how to get food into a three year old without spreading it round the room without involving a plate ........

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 05/09/2019 19:54

Can't think of anything my DS was scared of that wasn't understandable (hand driers still to this day prompt excessive tears) but I was scared of Dudley Moore as a child Hmm

OvalCanvas · 05/09/2019 19:55

The pinky ponk , but he loves everything else about in the night garden.

We wait with baited breath to see if it appears over the hedge at the beginning and have to quickly scoop him up and turn off the tv. The poor thing skids around on the floor screaming until somebody rescues him from the horror.

CarolineKate · 05/09/2019 19:58

My nearly 2 year old is terrified of dolls lol.

jesuschristwtf · 05/09/2019 19:59

cats, but only black and white cats - all other cats are fine.

Oysterbabe · 05/09/2019 19:59

Mine is scared of sleep, avoids it as much as possible.

vampirethriller · 05/09/2019 20:01

Oh and the dog farting. The dog is a loud and frequent farter.

I recently was bridesmaid at a wedding.. My 18 month ds happily wandered in and out while I got my hair and makeup done dress on etc.. Once I was ready and lifted him to put him into the car seat he cried and shouted no no no then entire way to the venue before running to his granny for the rest of the evening.. Wouldn't come near me 🙈
He was scared of fire engine sirens but loved playing with a fire truck and making the noise himself (he's got over it now)
He cries every time George cries in peppa pig or when curious George rolls down a hill in an inflatable boat and crashes into the house (but wants to watch it and will cry again if we turn it off) loves every other episode of curious George mind you

ds2 was scared of a coconut..his papa saw him giving it the eye,and didnt help really..funny at the time tho/ rolled it across floor to him. hes 24 and still looks away when sees gangs of them in supermarket etc..

Dahlietta · 05/09/2019 20:02

DS1 was very afraid of what I can best describe as barns. If we went into a large building with a timbered roof, he would completely freak out. It took us a while to diagnose what the common theme was!

Number3or4 · 05/09/2019 20:04

When ds1 was a toddler he would cry hysterically everytime waybloo came on. Once at dsis in law house, I went to use the toilet and on my return she asked if we needed to take him to hospital as this is not a normal cry and 'I don't know what to do?' I turned the tv off and put him my lap for comfort, after 5min he was fine. He is ok with it now.

isitfridayyet1 · 05/09/2019 20:05

My son was scared of kitchen foil!

OhMsBeliever · 05/09/2019 20:07

My oldest was afraid of his own penis. 🤷‍♀️😂 That made nappy changes and swimming fun. He refused to just lie down and not look, he'd try and sit up to look at it, then scream his head off as soon as he caught sight of it.

I have no idea what he found so terrifying, and the fear left as suddenly as it started.

Obviously now he's an adult I like to occasionally remind him of this. Grin

One of the cooks from Swashbuckle (Cbeebies show)

slipperywhensparticus · 05/09/2019 20:09

My daughter was petrified of her
Great uncles voice my aunt sent him to sit on the stairs on her first Christmas

Eldest son was scared of nothing really except the wind Hmm

Youngest was terrified of his dad he had reflux so he would cry a lot anyway but it would get louder when daddy held him

Predicter · 05/09/2019 20:13

My son from day 1 until about 6 months was terrified of the sound a packet of wet wipes makes! I used to have to get the wipes out first and move the pack away from him. He was newborn jumping out of his skin bless him!

ThePolishWombat · 05/09/2019 20:14

DC2 is almost 3, and is still terrified of whole pineapples Confused
He will eat sliced pineapple, but freaks out if he sees a whole one with the slimy green top still on in the shops or in the fridge Confused

He’s a little weirdo but we love him for it Grin

ThePolishWombat · 05/09/2019 20:15

Spikey not slimy!

Valkarie · 05/09/2019 20:16

Haircuts. Full on ugly crying, screaming and trying to escape

2girlsandagap · 05/09/2019 20:17

Henry hoover- not all hoovers, just Henry specifically even when it’s not switched on.

wanderings · 05/09/2019 20:20

I used to be afraid of not being able to see my toes: my terror was my mum buckling my red Mary Jane shoes on to my bare feet, so my toes couldn't escape, and I couldn't get the shoes off myself! I even remember this.

tempnamechange98765 · 05/09/2019 20:21

My 6 month old is scared of me saying "Yey". Also lots of loud noises, hand dryers etc.

raskolnikova · 05/09/2019 20:23

Mine is 9 months old and doesn't seem to be afraid of much, but we went to a farm a few weeks ago and it turns out she is scared of ponies.

Also healthcare professionals.

Rubyduby26 · 05/09/2019 20:26
