To think the Daily Mail fawning over Princess Charlotte is too much

Five stories today including one on the teacher’s house price and clothes!

And loads of obsequious and grovelling comments about Charlotte and Kate.

“Dearest Catherine - doubt you read the Daily Mail, but please, please grow your family! One or two more babies! They are darling!”

“Royal fans went into meltdown on social media as they reacted to the touching photos of Charlotte's first day.

One wrote: 'Sobbing at pictured of little Princess Charlotte starting school with her big brother”.

What on Earth?
🤷🏻‍♀️

We pay for them. If they don’t like it they can renounce their titles and work in a supermarket.

Rockbird · 05/09/2019 14:50

Oh what bollocks. Do you really think they would get a moment's peace if they relinquished their titles and worked in the local chippy? What nonsense!

Span1elsRock · 05/09/2019 14:51

I bet few other kids had to face the worlds media on their 1st day at school.

Don't see the need for it personally. Let them have a childhood.

kateandme · 05/09/2019 14:52

mmm and i wonder how different this will be when mm child starts i just cant begin to imagine the slur they will spill about them then

cannycat20 · 05/09/2019 14:54

When I was working in another country for a couple of years (not quite the UK but not quite the EU either) and slightly homesick I used to amuse myself with five bar gates of how many stories this "news"paper would run on the Royal Family, and Kate in particular, on the average day. (I loathe the DM with a passion, but it was, curiously enough, the easiest English paper to get hold of...)

They were especially fascinated by what she was wearing. Kate definitely fits their world view of what a woman of that age should be, basically a devoted wife and mum looking after her family (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with that, it's their world view I have issues with). I'm not a Royalist in the slightest but I actually rather like Prince William and Kate and their family, and I wish the Press would just back off.

And yes, as other posters have said, it nicely distracts attention from some other rather less suitable Royal Family members or recent (forced) decisions....

TheVanguardSix · 05/09/2019 14:56

It's so effing weird.

I mean, they are adorable kids, absolutely! But so are my neighbours' kids. I just don't get the media's lurking obsession with the royal family. Totally bizarre.

PenguinPop · 05/09/2019 14:59

The whole thing is weird. 😬 Cringe.

Biggobyboo · 05/09/2019 14:59

It’s a distraction to the populace.

Never mind Andrew or the slowly imploding UK. Here are some photos to fawn over.

I suppose we at least get to see her, unlike the wrapped up baby.

None of us had a clue what Charlotte looked like when she was 4 months old either fgs, but that was allowed back then

CruCru · 05/09/2019 15:02

The weird thing about the DM is how obsessed with money they are. That article must have included how much the school costs per year (and the discount they are getting for a second child) three or four times. Then they mentioned how much the dresses (of both Kate and the teacher) cost.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 05/09/2019 15:05

I don't disagree with you, but..

Why don’t people focus on their own lives and families instead of bowing and scraping to these people?

The same reason that people follow celebrities, and fawn over the Kardashians. They don't like us either. It's the culture. For some people it'll be escapism, some will just like people watching, some get quite attached to celebrities and high-profile people. For some, it's probably loneliness.

It seems quite judgey to criticise it about the royals alone, especially when there has only been five articles because the DM know that it'll get clicks, and you've clicked it. And probably sent loads more people to look!

BarbariansMum · 05/09/2019 15:08

YANBU - ONE short article and a pic would have been plenty. Child starts school is hardly a sensational story.

AgentProvocateur · 05/09/2019 15:09

I’m amazed that 17% of people think you’re being unreasonable Grin Weirdos.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 05/09/2019 15:11

I don’t mind the DM reporting it, or people generally having an interest in the Royals, though the gushing commenters need to get a life.

However what I found more strange was the way the head teacher came to the front gate and then shook the hands of both children. Who shakes the hand of a primary school-aged child? Is she going to do this every morning? I thought that the whole point was for the royal kids to be treated like any other pupils?

flossletsfloss · 05/09/2019 15:12

The gushing comments make me want to puke. I just want to shout 'get a life' they are just normal (boring) people. My kids are way cuter!!!! Grin

Biggobyboo · 05/09/2019 15:13

Was the teacher curtseying or just crouching down? Imagine being a professional and having to curtesy to a child. Hmm

OP posts:
ArgumentativeAardvaark · 05/09/2019 15:18

I thought it was just crouching. Nothing wrong in that, it’s Supernanny’s first tip for effective communication with children. But shaking their hands?!

Amibeingnaive · 05/09/2019 15:18

Its that vulgar mass hysteria that started with Diana and never really went away.

I watched a documentary about her death recently and the impact it had on the monarchy. People howling in the streets over a woman who was, essentially, a stranger. People sleeping on the street to get a glimpse of the coffin. Those poor boys offered up as a public spectacle, at their most vulnerable, because 'the people' demanded it.

And so it goes on. How can anyone be so invested in a group of people who they don't know and will likely never meet. It's voyeuristic and unhealthy to be crying over a stranger's child starting school.

Wellhelloxx11xx · 05/09/2019 15:29

They couldn’t stand Kate a few years ago. Honestly look up articles from 2014 after George was born. I came across one where half the comments were stating she’d destroy the royal family.

derxa · 05/09/2019 15:30

Dearest Catherine - doubt you read the Daily Mail, but please, please grow your family! One or two more babies! They are darling!” Grin

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 05/09/2019 15:31

You're not forced to read the DM, if it upsets you so much don't go there

Strugglingtodomybest · 05/09/2019 15:38

It's so weird, who are all these people who care about stuff like this? I don't (think!) I know anyone who does.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/09/2019 15:42

It's the Daily Mail. It's nothing less than I'd expect from them to be honest.

PenguinPop · 05/09/2019 15:43

I feel like if I was the PR manager of the royal family, I could write much better scripts to distract the public (from the flaming dumpster 🔥 that is Andrew).

  1. Charles divorces Camilla.
  2. Charles marries Elizabeth Hurley.
  3. William becomes the next Bond.
  4. Harry and Meghan do a song and dance act a la Sonny and Cher at their next environmental fashion show sponsored by Vogue, Booking.com, and Visa.
  5. Kate hosts next Great British Bake Off for charity.

And so on, and so forth. Grin

Unfortunately the public is too easily pleased.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/09/2019 15:44
